What our customers say about their holidays

    • David - Verified booking

We had a lovely week at Causeway cottage, good weather helped a lot.

It’s so well located for many beautiful places to visit with no need to go too far. The good outweighs the bad about the cottage. It’s very homely and comfortable, just big enough for four adults, we stayed with our son and daughter in law. The king sized beds are comfortable, with good quality bed linen and towels, lots of nice cushions and pillows. The kitchen is well equipped. There were sachets of coffee and tea bags, little pods of milk, plus salt and pepper, but bring everything you need with you as it’s not that easy to pop to the shop for your first night. What let the cottage down for us was the shower. It’s electric, over the bath and has a very poor water flow, not suitable for the ladies to wash their hair. The bathroom is downstairs and the toilet upstairs is handy, small, but serves its purpose, watch out if you are tall! Disappointing that we were not allowed to use the log burner. The outside could be so much better. The garden is in the most idyllic setting, but has been terribly neglected. It would be wonderful to relax out there, hearing the birds sing and enjoying the peace. But the wooden chairs are very uncomfortable, a bench further down not fit to sit on and the whole outside is littered with warning notices of broken flags, unsafe fences, etc etc. it all needs a lot of TLC and that’s an awful shame. But, we were out and about a lot and still had a lovely time, Vicky keeps the place lovely and clean and is so helpful. As I said, the good outweighs the bad and we loved the area and the village so much, we would love to come again

This is certainly the best holiday cottage that we have ever been to.

All cottages are "clean, quiet, well equipped" etc but in this case it is really true. Everything was spotless, the equipment was all very good quality, the knives were really sharp (a good indicator!). The cottage is more like a "home" than a "place to stay", the photos give a good indication of what is there. Thank you Vicki, for making our stay very pleasant. The surrounding area has many places of interest: Stockton Bury Gardens http://www.stocktonbury.co.uk/ under-sold on the website. Ralph Court gardens https://www.ralphcourtgardens.co.uk/ Small, bizarre, and great fun especially for kids. Hampton Court Castle https://www.hamptoncourtcastle.co.uk/ 100 years older than Hampton Court Palace in Surrey. Gorgeous grounds. Westonbury Mill Water Gardens http://westonburymillwatergardens.com/ another small, quirky but gorgeous garden. Plus a good sekection of English Heritage and National Trust venues and the Black and White trail of villages of gorgeous half timbered buildings https://www.blackandwhitetrail.org/ I do wish that Sykes would give a what3words location for each property - so much easier than the verbal "turn right ant the signpost" type of directions. The precise location of the cottage parking space is: https://w3w.co/combos.shredder.lads Click on the blue 'earth' (bottom right corner to see the terrain, Click on your mapping icon to give the route to get there.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Causeway cottage in Pencombe.

If we had any reservations it would be that for five people the space was a little tight, and the bedrooms apart from the main room upstairs was also a little confining space wise. There was in reality little storage space for cloths and cases up stairs. Although there were two toilets, one up, one down, there was only again the one shower and bath room down stairs, and for five people we all had to take it in turns to use the shower room. As we were there for four nights we could cope adequately, but a longer stay of over seven days would have been a problem for the five of us, all adults. We loved the lounge and diningroom seating area, and the kitchen and utility area. The cottage was well heated when we arrived , and the lights already put on for us as it was dark . The property was very inviting , and we enjoyed our stay there very much, and enjoyed the surrounding area and walks around the village and over the fields. It is an area that we would like to stay again in. Overall very satisfied with our choice of cottage.

A fabulous cottage that felt cosy, but was also spacious.

It was spotlessly clean and had all of the home comforts that it advertised. In addition to the downstairs bathroom there was also an additional toilet and wash hand basin upstairs. The garden was lovely and I'm sure is a great added bonus when the weather is warm. The village is small and charming and we enjoyed a great Sunday roast at the local pub, which only takes 10 minutes to walk to. We had a little trouble with the heating system, but Vicki, who lives locally and looks after the property, was with us within 15 minutes of our phone call to help us. We are planning to return again next year after a covid vaccine has been found. If travelling via the M5, from the north or south, take the exit at Worcester (A44) to Bromyard and then follow the signs to Pencombe. We were travelling from Dorset and unfortunately followed the sat nav. We left the M5 at the Gloucester junction and the last 5 miles of our journey found us on really tiny country lanes. Very scary when meeting homeward-bound tractors!

      Lovely spacious hall conversion.

Very open plan which we enjoyed. Each bedroom had a double bed and tv for anyone to hide away in should they wish to. A couple of the beds had lumpy springs but this was easily fixed by putting one of the lovely squishy blankets under the sheet. The owners had supplied basics like washing up liquid / dishwasher tables which we very much appreciated. They had also left treats - doughnuts and cookies which was a welcoming touch. Living room area was comfortable for our large group to share together. Lovely large dining table and super huge oven meant we could enjoy big family meals. The property was not quite ready for us when we arrived at check in time , we had to wait 45 mins - this was a small niggle but after a long journey you just want to get in! The owner was friendly and apologetic and we were soon in and enjoying ourselves.
