What our customers say about their holidays

    • Graham - Verified booking

The cottage is in a lovely quiet village.

The only thing to be aware (especially if you have young children), is that cars, trucks, and even a bus, do travel at relative high speed within feet of the front door and side exit, so keep an eye on small ones. However, that’s not really a comment on the cottage which was lovely, clean and roomy with two reception rooms, and good sized bedrooms where up to 6 people could stay comfortably (we were a group of 4 so more than enough space). The beds were all comfortable and everybody slept well. The cottage is within 2 minutes walk of the local public house that serves food for 6 days a week, but not Sunday evening as they’re closed. The garden backs onto a church graveyard so nobody overlooking. We visited the church and the graveyard and had a nice walk around. The garden provided plenty of outside space for relaxing, eating and drinking if you didn’t want to sit indoors. There was a big umbrella to keep the sun (or rain!!) off. The location is excellent being only 4 minutes drive from the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and 15/20 min drive to St Austell and the supermarkets (ASDA and Tesco). Mevagissy was also very close. Eden Project was around 30 minutes drive away. We all had a wonderful week staying in Trelan. However, there was one (what we thought was minor as it didn’t impact the holiday) issue that needs to be said… We read on a previous review that somebody had reported water ingress in the chimney breast in the main lounge. Whilst we were staying at Trelan it did rain a lot, and the wall in the lounge was literally oozing with water coming through the plaster in several places. We have photographs to evidence it. The damp patches were there for several days. In addition, the small snug sitting room had a musty smell that overtime became too much. We did leave the room window open when we were in the property to air it off, but the musty smell still persistent. Finally, when we got home we realised that all our clothes smelt quite musty which we think could only have come from staying in the cottage. Oddly, we didn’t really notice it whilst there, apart from the smell coming from the snug. We recognise the cottage is probably old and accept sometimes issues like water ingress does happen especially when we get downpours like we had whilst staying there, but it seems such a shame on such a beautiful cottage that has been otherwise well maintained. The property owner did seem quite dismissive to the other people who gave feedback about the issue, but I hope this time they take it with the good faith the feedback is being given in.

Back from a lovely weeks stay.

We were welcomed by the owner and generous scones and cream tea. The cottage was charming with an airy feel and extremely comfortable beds! The kids loved the novelty of sleeping upstairs whilst we were downstairs and having their own ensuite. We were asked if we wanted the hottub on for our arrival and then were told it would be the next day but we didn't mind. The hottub was also not wood-fired and was in an outbuilding which was a bit of a let down as the scenery and views are spectacular, but, the children enjoyed it. 'Blackrock' was the cottage next door and we stayed in 'Leghorn' on the end. The garden is a little suntrap for early evening lounges - we brought our own picnic blankets. We got to meet the resident, free-range goat who is rather a character. So quiet apart from the sounds of nature and livestock. Our favourite go-to was Charlestown which we well recommend along with The Eden Project.

The cottage, although in a small isolated village, is centrally located so travelling around Cornwall is easy.

It’s very clean and well kept, with everything you could want to make your stay extremely comfortable. Plenty of things to keep both adults and children entertained as described in the write up. The garden is lovely and sunny, furniture and some outdoor games available. There is a pub serving delicious food at reasonable prices, with a very friendly atmosphere just a few steps away. The only negative I can think of is that the garage is only big enough for a small car, I have a mini and it just fit, and the parking area is only big enough for 1 car so if you take more than 1 car you might struggle, but saying that all the benefits out way the negative. I would recommend this cottage to both couples and families. Thanks for a fantastic stay, we hope to return next year.

This cottage is advertised for 6 people we were a party of 4 adults(2 couples) and 2 teenagers .

The second double bedroom is too small we had to turn round a bedside cabinet so the door to the room would shut without hitting the cabinet. The other side of the bed the drawer of the bedside cabinet could not be opened due to the radiator . The windowsill was the only place to stand toiletries etc . There was only one chair. So with a small drawer cabinet in the wardrobe there was a lack of storage space. The fridge in the kitchen was not sufficient to store supplies for 6 people, important as there is no local shop. The worktops are cluttered and thus difficult to prepare food. As we had nice sunny weather we were disappointed as we were unable to hang out washing to dry . I am aware there was a washer/ dryer but not everything is suitable for that.

      Very spacious property.

Extremely clean and comfortable. All furniture, appliances, crockery etc of high quality. Lovely cream tea ready for us to have at the property on arrival is a lovely touch. Enclosed back garden so the dogs were safe. Hot tub was great every night once we worked it out. Just don’t put too much wood in there or it gets too hot. Property in very quiet surroundings . 20 minute walk to the Eden project or 5 minutes in the car. If you are a runner would definitely recommend going down there to do the parkrun on Saturday morning as you get to stay in the Eden project for free and it’s so worth the visit . Would definitely recommend staying at Blackrock because of how comfortable and spacious it is and in a great location for exploring the Cornish coast
