What our customers say about their holidays

    • Susan - Verified booking

We chose to re visit Falmouth having moved up north some eighteen months ago.

Prior to moving we had lived in Falmouth for over 38years and knew Pendra Loweth / Maen Valley so chose to choose a cottage on the site, this been Spring Tide as it advertised no dogs, king size bed and a twin which was our criteria. Its been the worst cottage we have stayed at with it’s non welcome food smell of curry and to its total lack of cleanliness, lack of maintenance and lack of information on the use of equipment. The issues made us very wary with regards to our health. (Allergies especially dust). 1. Extremely dusty skirting boards more so in the twin room which we ended up cleaning, however, looking behind both bedrooms (with a torch) furniture the dust was extremely thick behind the wardrobes meaning this cottage has not been deep cleaned for a very very long time. (Photos taken) 2. The washing machine: the washer draw has not been cleaned and the washer had a very unpleasant stale smell so didn’t use. (Photos taken) 3. The standard of cleanliness regarding the crockery and cutlery. The dish drainer was dirty. The utensil holder for larger items has seen better days. (Photo taken) A wooden chopping board which should be condemned. The kitchen wooden blinds are dirty. (Photo taken) The lounge has such impractical furniture for a holiday let the cleaner has no way of moving to clean behind. 4. All the fans in the house are dusty , hence not used. (Photos taken) 5. The shower head is dirty (photo taken)with black mould along with mould in places in the bath. (Yes Cornwall is a damp county but it’s no excuse not to keep on top of it especially more so in a holiday let) 6. The patio table and chairs had not been cleaned prior to the let neither had the patio been swept or weeded (monkey nut shells under the table and chairs ) (photo taken) Other observations: 1. No instructions folder left out for guests (eventually found under other items in the bookcase):- No instructions for : A. TV which had Four monitors. B. Microwave ( instructions were for a former model) C. Instructions of how to use the oven and grill - all markings had faded over time along with the hob knobs. D. No first aid in any kitchen cupboard as per the Sykes part of the folder. E. The blind in the main bedroom had a hand written note on the windowsill to say it wasn’t working properly and how to higher and lower it. If it was known to be an issue by the owners ( who we understand visited before our arrival) then fix it. (Photo taken) We feel Sykes Cottages need to re inspect this property. We trust this constructive information will be taken onboard and improvements made in order that future guests will have a better experience than we did.

Overall a nice property, but the long access road is problematic to negotiate due to the numerous potholes.

The accommodation could be better if a few things were attended to…..the front door lock needs attention as it’s really difficult to open from either side. The outside table/chairs and decking area have seen better days & weren’t particularly clean. The decking was strewn with leaves on arrival (for info, the outside space wasn’t secure for our little dog). We had to buy some items to make our stay more comfortable….a kettle (the one provided was unusable with a jammed lid), a broom to clear the decking, a clothes airer as there was a washing machine but nowhere to hang wet laundry during our 2 week stay, an anti-slip mat for the bath/shower and a set of coat hangers for the hooks in the second bedroom (there’s no wardrobe). There appears to be a hornets nest in the roof adjoining the neighbouring property (they kept coming inside and we eventually worked out where they were coming from). On one occasion we had 6 inside so had to be careful about opening the windows/patio doors & kept them mostly shut, which was very uncomfortable in the hot weather & affected our enjoyment of the holiday. The wifi and phone signals are intermittent, which we knew about anyway & it didn’t particularly bother us. The allocated parking is in an area adjacent to the complex, rather than outside the property. On the plus side, the beds are comfy, it’s clean & spacious inside, in a good location with nice views of the golf course and in a sunny position if you’re lucky enough to have good weather.

The Threshing barn is set in a lovely village location perfect for anyone wanting a peaceful holiday. It is about 20 minutes to Truro and Falmouth and also to Porthtowan beach, where you can book surfing lessons and there are cafes/restaurants, beach shops and toilets. As a family of 4 (children aged 15 and 12) the size of the barn was ideal and with 2 bathrooms there were no arguments! I would suggest some hooks to be added in the bathrooms for dressing gowns/ towels to be hung. There were plenty of coat hangers in the wardrobes. Beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well-equipped!The outside space is lovely and well-maintained, the patio area has seating and a BBQ - unfortunately the weather didn't permit us to enjoy the outdoor area! There is also two car spaces and a games room with a table tennis table, this area is shared with the cottage on the grounds. We had an issue with the oven the day after we arrived and customer services were very efficient and it was sorted the next working day and It didn't stop us from having a wonderful holiday at the Threshing Barn.

We had a lovely stay at Honeycrock.

Owners were welcoming, information provided about the local area, and we enjoyed lovely walks from the cottage door to the beach to have a fire in the evening. We stayed in August, and haven’t been away in the summer before. Soon realised if you want to go to the beach you need to be prepared to get up early to drive down to get a parking space. The cottage was within walking distance (adult legs not child!) of Polly Joke and a little further, Crantock, and Bowgie Inn which is lovely for a pint overlooking the sea. As described in the listing, there is NO WI-FI which was absolutely perfect for us for a complete switch off this week. There are board games and books at the cottage. As described in the listing, the lane to get to the cottage is very rough and you need to be prepared for going at 5 mph down a bumpy lane. This did not bother us at all, but if you have a Lamborghini you might want to bear this in mind! All in all what a lovely place to stay and we would be back in a heartbeat! Have already recommended it to friends

Hi, we’ve been coming to pendra loweth for the last 10 years.

However, this time round we were disappointed with the overall accommodation. The description about the property mentioned bunk beds and there wasn’t so our kids were disappointed. The cleanliness of the property was poor and we found a dirty old handkerchief under the sheets in the master bedroom. It was also cold in the house even with the extra heating in the house. The pool spa was cold and not properly functioning and the steam room was also not in action. I did speak to reception about this but it didn’t appear to be resolved. I know s number of other guests also spoke to reception about this. So again, disappointing. I suggest the description of the property is updated as this one of the reasons why we chose the property as the kids wanted bunk beds. The cleanliness needs to be assessed before the next guests arrive. Many thanks, Steve
