From museums to wildlife, Merseyside offers an impressive range of things to see and do on holiday. The World of Glass Museum is a popular place to visit as is Port Sunlight Village. If you prefer animals to art, then the Knowsley Safari Park is the place for you. Formby Point is also well worth a visit as it offers the best chance to spot wild red squirrels. If that’s not enough to persuade you it also has a sandy beach and beautiful pinewoods.

"If I needed to be in Hale for any reason in the future, I'd definitely stay here again. The owners live very near, and are absolutely lovely people. The house was very clean and tidy, and the garden is large, fully enclosed (great if you have a dog!) and lovely. As far as areas for improvement, I just have a few comments: 1. less perfumed spray throughout the house - it was overpowering - ESPECIALLY on the bed (I think the bedding was sprayed, and it was way too strong for me). 2. The house was lovely and warm, but the master bedroom is quite cold (not surprising for a 300 year old cottage!). I'd recommend having some extra heavy blankets available, rather than just the one, very thin one in the closet. Luckily, I wasn't using the 2nd bedroom, so I was able to use one of the duvets in that room on my bed. 3. Having a cafetiere available for people who like "real coffee" would be great. They're small, cheap, and would be a welcome addition. ;-)Other than those three, minor things, it was a truly lovely cottage and a good experience. Kudos to the owners!"

"This is a very good cottage to stay in in the winter. It is very warm and you can park your car right by the front door. We were there for a conference in Southport, to visit Liverpool, by train, on a couple of occasions and to meet friends in Derbyshire - all very accessible from the cottage. The local walks were not really accessible during our stay as it was just after heavy snow. The owner checked on us a couple of times and we were very happy with that. We didn't need the access rails or support but they looked good but unobtrusive if you didn't need them. Good spot to stay for visiting the coast between Southport and Liverpool and good for bird watchers as well."

"On reflection the cottage is calling out for some TLC or a schedule of continuous maintenance to keep the little problems becoming major issues which detract from the good location , history of the house and garden. The saying the more you look , the more you see is very true with this cottage. We loved the first view but on staying in the property it is clear the little things are not being rectified.I am not going to start listing all that was wrong but please step back and have a think about the standard that is promised but unfortunately is lacking."

"Another fantastic stay in this beautiful cottage, which is full of character and the most beautiful garden. We happily spent time just relaxing and enjoying the cottage and garden, as did our dogs. The changes made since our last visit, have improved the cottage even more, with more space in the living room and the garden much more secure (and the lights at night look lovely) Although the trip was primarily for work, the extra days we stayed at Oak Cottage made it feel like a proper holiday."

"A real gem of a place, the owners Jonathan and Kim are a lovely couple who go out of their way to help if you have any questions. The location for walking the dog is perfect, and the surrounding area is a real eye opener. We would say it is one of the best locations for a chill out as you can visit so many interesting places. Chester, Liverpool are all easily reached by bus or train. My wife and I will be returning in the future with Oscar the dog for another great stay."
