What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ian - Verified booking

The cottage had a well equipped kitchen including boiling water tap (although a kettle was also provided) and a very good shower room.

Parking was just outside the cottage in their gated courtyard, which is situated near the owner’s farmhouse. The settee was very comfortable and I also enjoyed sitting in the “rocking chair”! No mobile signal but the Wi-Fi was good. Much enjoyed the rural view, seeing the cows being moved daily to the top field. The cottage was well placed for sightseeing and would be good for cycling or walking,. We went on the Peak Rail steam train trip from Rowsley to Matlock, on a wet day, and enjoyed Matlock Bath, Ashbourne, Ilam Park, Dovedale, and Bakewell. The relatively nearby pretty village of Winster was a daily visit, for newspapers, local bread, butter, milk and groceries (local shop and Post Office). Sainsbury’s (with petrol station) and other shops could be found at Matlock. The garden was small but very secure for our two small dogs, with a small lawn and paved patio with garden seats - and an outside light for nighttime “visits”. As I was on crutches I did find the steps were quite steep to the garden, with no handrail, but I did manage, with care, and this was of course mentioned in the property description. A very handy porch/boot room to the front of the property was convenient to dry off the dogs and to leave our wet coats, shoes, etc! There was also a washing machine, if required, and a very handy mop! We enjoyed our visit to the cottage and would recommend.

On arrival at the location no obvious sign of Clover Cottage.

Contacted owner via an Intercom system attached to farmhouse door. Owner apologised for non appearance said she would be home as soon as possible. Tried to describe where entrance to cottage was but signal kept breaking up and could not understand what she was saying. Spoke to a lady in the adjoining cheese factory who said she had never heard of Clover Cottage. Eventually found another person at cheese factory who directed me to the property. The entrance was off the farmyard but was not obvious that it was like photos on booking site. Entrance via a very unimpressive leanto to the back door. This led into a small kitchen with no window and then into the living room which was minimally furnished. The bathroom was off this room and was the best room in house with large walk-in shower, wash basin and toilet. The two bedrooms were uninspiring with large heavy furniture, one looking out to garden. The photos on the booking site gave the impression of a much more cosy and comfortable property which it was not. The cottage was described on the web site as "a stunning two bed roomed cottage" Not in my opinion. This short break was to give my wife a bit of a ' pick me up' after a recent stroke but because of what we found as described above we felt that we could not stay and we drove home.

This cottage is a real ‘gem’ of a find.

It is so well done with high end finishes throughout. There has been a lot of thought put into the finish and the quality of the cottage is amazing. The beds and linen were of hotel quality and the bathroom is immaculate with great walk in shower which has fantastic pressure. The kitchen is stunning with a beautiful large kitchen table. Situated in an elevated position overlooking Matlock itself. It is a short (but steep) walk back to the cottage. Everything is right on the doorstep, walks galore, lovely restaurants/bars/coffee shops and convenience stores. Emily was very quick to respond and provided little extras like milk, tea bags (well needed upon arrival!) there was also a quality packet of biscuits and some beer! These little ‘extra’ touches make the difference between a nice stay and a perfect stay! We are definitely going to book this cottage again and highly recommend it to friends and family. You will certainly not be disappointed in any way if you booked it…….do it and enjoy it as much as we did. Thanks Emily for a wonderful stay x

      An immaculately presented cottage.

Everything you need to start your stay in the Peak District was there. Fully enclosed rear garden meant the dog could safely roam around. Very large bathroom with separate walk in shower with as much hot water as 4 of us needed. Superb kitchen diner with large table made eating in a pleasure and the dishwasher and washing machine meant everything could be cleaned without too much effort. Regarding location, there are nice dog walks straight out of the door. We were advised by a lovely local gentleman on what paths to take. Cavendish road is one of the higher points in Matlock, something to bear in mind if, as we did you want to explore on your arrival. Walking down into town is very pleasant. The walk back up is certainly a work out! Beds comfortable enough, mattresses will never suit everybody and though not as firm as at home the sleep was good. I’d recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a relaxing break, but be prepared to use your car to get around at least some of the time.
