What our customers say about their holidays

    • Olivia - Verified booking

Lovely stay at this cosy house.

The owner was responsive to initial enquiries and also throughout our stay. The property is in a fairly rural location but just a short drive from Betws-Y-Coed and surrounding areas. The access, which someone else mentioned in a previous review, was a bit bumpy and difficult for our campervan but we managed it and on the last day of our stay the owner was doing lane maintenance so future guests shouldn’t have a problem. The house itself is very cute, with a games room and a spacious living room. It is obviously an old property which comes with its share of quirks and issues, but nothing which detracted from our experience. We had a fire going every evening which kept the place cosy, and the blankets and quilts provided meant we were very warm in the night. The bathrooms were spotless, the showers hot and the kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and all the utensils you might need. Some constructive criticisms: the second shower (over the bath) should have a shower curtain as you can easily flood the place when using it! The bottom right hob switches itself on continuously even when not in use (as soon as you flip the power switch for the oven and cooker) which is dangerous so should be looked into. The living room fire has quite a small fireguard around it and on one evening sparks flew over the top onto the carpet. We put them out straight away but we were concerned what would have happened if the dog had been lying there. I would suggest putting a higher one in place. Finally, the towels provided - although lovely and soft - were all the same colour and after about 2 days of hanging them on the towel rails to dry we were all mixing them up! I would recommend getting different colours or embroidered towels to help with this. Overall the four of us and our dog really enjoyed our stay. We would recommend staying here and would happily stay again if we were in the area. Thank you Jane for a lovely week!

A lovely cottage in a nice little village.

Not far from Abergele for a drive. Just a couple of pointers- there are 2 pubs by the cottage, one that does not do food. The other that does is not dog friendly. Usually we don’t mind the drive out, but we were lucky enough to have snow whilst we were there so we’re limited in where to go. Would have been handy to know they were not dog friendly before we left so we could plan ahead. The cottage itself is lovely, cosy and clean. Had washing machine but no way to dry clothes in winter months. Would benefit from tv in bedroom and extra towels as 2 for 2 people for a 4 day stay is not enough when you can’t get them washed and dried in a day! The utility was also full of flies on arrival for some reason? Something for the caretaker to look into perhaps! Would recommend ‘the old stag’ for food. Staff so welcoming. Very dog friendly! And the food was top notch! Just a shame for the snow otherwise we would have visit there a couple of times during our stay instead of cooking from the cottage. Also recommend ‘the harp’ in Abergele. Once again so dog friendly! We only managed to get there on the last day so can’t comment on the food, but hubby said his pint of Guinness was a great pint. Went to Angel bay to see the seals too and would recommend. I’m pregnant so limited on where i can walk but this was a nice and easy, flat stroll. All in all a great stay!

      Dove Cottage is beautiful.

It's cosy, comfortable and located in a beautiful little village. Locals are very welcoming and I would definitely visit again. It was home from home and my family and dog relaxed and enjoyed the whole experience. The Welcome pack was a very thoughtful and lovely gift to receive. The log burner kept us nice and warm on the chilly nights. The bed were very comfortable with lots of extra pillows and blankets. Kitchen had everything you needed. Parking was easy. Great privacy in the court yard. We used the bbq too which was fantastic. The only downside is only 1 pub allows dogs in and they don't serve food. The courtyard is all pebbles and our dog will only do his business on grass so we had to get up early to take him out. He also cut his paws on the slate at the river so the pebbles hurt his paws so we layed our own blankets down so he could come and sit with us outside. The cottage wasn't clean when we arrived. So I had to clean it and lastly there is a very strong smell of sewage in the living room. The plug in smellys were on when we got there but these effect my husbands headaches so I turned them off and we got this strong smell off sewage. Other than that the cottage was beautifully decorated and a perfect location for us to explore North wales.

A beautiful, cosy and welcoming cottage, perfectly placed for a short break exploring North Wales.

We enjoyed coastal, countryside and mountain walks with the dog. The books in the cottage were very good. We enjoyed some of the family games too. The cottage was warm with ambient lighting, which was lovely to return to. A welcome basket with tea & coffee etc was great as were the Welsh Cakes. Washing up liquid/cloths, tea towels etc soap and lovely fluffy towels were all provided. The utility porch was great for the dog and as a boot room. The cottage had almost everything we needed - no hairdryer, bread knife, kitchen scissors, chopping board - which was unusual given the vast range cooker and excellent pans/cooking dishes etc. Super comfortable beds, made up on arrival and plenty of spare pillows - only 2 soft pillows though - the others were too firm. Plentiful hot water, although the water pressure could be a little temperamental. Logs for the stove and matches provided, although we didn’t need it as the heating was excellent. The flame effect stove was cosy. A lovely, friendly village to explore. The Black Lion pub was superb! The local bus passes right past the cottage, so easy to explore locally without taking the car. We would definitely stay longer next time!

This was another fantastic stay at Dove Cottage.

If possible we would love to stay here again next time we are up this way as its ideally located and the cottage itself has everything we need. The cottage as usual is clean and comfortable-no issues with parking plenty of room on street for parking with a carpark(free) a short walk from the property if unable to park outside(which we've never had to do). It's a short drive from Abergele where there is a Tesco supermarket and just 5 minutes down the road there is a family run petrol station which offers cheap!! Fuel believe it or not and firewood and kindling if you need supplies for the lovely log burner (Waterloo service station). This cottage has everything you need for a fantastic break in North Wales.5 stars from us again. 3 pubs the Black lion-The Swan-The Stag-all great pubs-first two within walking distance from the cottage-The stag a 5 minute drive. All worth a look.
