"Just returned from the cottage this week. Booked at short notice and got a great deal. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely owners, from the welcome pack (even the dogs were included), suggestions of walks, places to visit and restaurant recommendations. Often the disadvantage of renting 'dog friendly'properties is that they smell 'dog friendly'- not this one- it was spotlessly clean and fresh, and decorated beautifully. (we almost wished the weather wasnt so good as the place was so cosy and snug-must be great in winter) It has everything you could possibly need- from iron and ironing board, a dvd player, lots of games and books to keep you busy without WIFI (dont be put off - we were terrified at first but in the end it felt very liberating!!) and everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. The bathroom is new and the shower is great. The cottage has beautiful wooden floors and stone walls which are really interesting and beautiful. Burton on Lonsdale itself is a tiny village- its so pretty. Theres a village shop selling everything you could need, with a cafe serving excellent food, and the village pub is really great. The food there is fantastic and varied. Both are a minutes walk from the cottage. In all, we were really pleased with the place and definitely want to return. Definitely recommend it, and have already done so to several of my friends."

"Enjoyed our stay and the children liked the upside down house. However, we had problem with no cold water on the first night, which was resolved and possibly because of power cut at the bore hole. The drive was steeper than advertised/expected, especially the final bit. We knew the centre section was unsurfaced but it had some very deep ruts in it. There were also 2 gates to open & shut. This needs to be more clearly advertised. It was a long way from the upstairs bedroom to the bathrooms and could have done with a toilet on first floor (in area of utility room??) as bad on the knees for some. The property was roomy, well equipped and the key holder very helpful. Day we could have sat outside it rained but that wasn't the cottage's fault!! The view was beautiful and The Pendle Inn in Barley good for evening meal."

"The cottage is very nice and cosy, very well equipped and clean. The characteristic wooden floor, stone walls and the fireplace were definitely highlights! The owners and also the village people are most lovely and gladly help you out with everything. Located in a very small village, the place offers a lot of peace and quiet and is a perfect base for discovering the beautiful Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District area. But a car would be very advisable. The only negative aspect is the traffic noise from the near main road, but after you got used to it, it isn't so disturbing anymore. All in all the cottage is a perfect retreat for couples, small families and also for singles who look for a relaxing vacation in the middle of the most beautiful north english nature."

"This is a charming house in beautiful surroundings. The rooms are spacious and well appointed with far reaching views. The house is warm with constant hot water and a supply of wood for the fire. It has every convenience, including a large patio and garden. We could not have expected a warmer welcome and we felt as if we were important guests. We would highly recommend this property and certainly, we hope to visit it again. This is an idyllic property for those, seeking a quiet break but without feeling isolated. There are many local areas of natural beauty near the property, as well as many charming villages, such as Kirkby Lonsdale. This is a very special place and we feel privileged to have been able to spend a holiday there."

"No wow factor. Views cannot be easily seen from the sitting and dining area, windows very small. But maybe due to planning permission? Total layout was wrong. Spent most time up and down stairs. 2 bathrooms on ground floor and yet on remaining 2 floors no wc. Had problems with the water system which meant that for 2 days had plumbers in the property. A no go place for anyone with mobility problems, even minor. Also there's a public footpath at the side of the property so if you're really wanting somewhere isolated and away from civilisation then it's really not the place. If you book this cottage then it's worth checking before you go that the water is working as it should as very unsympathetic owner!"
