What our customers say about their holidays

    • Duncan - Verified booking

      Fabulous location.

Easy reach of all amenities, five minute walk to seafront, pub/restaurant, supermarket and ten minute level walk to town/shops. The fairground was literally on the doorstep but we were never bothered with any noise whatsoever. The accommodation was spotless and very comfortable and well laid out with a separate area with a shared washing machine and chest freezer. The setting is excellent, central but secluded for privacy. The outdoor seating area is great with a suntrap setting. This was a great base for exploring the wee gems of Norfolk and the local area. The owners left us some helpful tips on local eating places and we were never disappointed. The seafront promenade was excellent for walking to town and was clean as a whistle. The local council were out every morning sanitising all benches and hand-railings due to the current Covid-19 situation and gave us great peace of mind in these challenging times, well done Hunstanton Council. This was a great location for a short or extended break and we will certainly recommend it and we would not hesitate to return here. We will certainly recommend Sykes to our friends and family as their team were on the ball from start to finish with regular updates and advice for our holiday, well done, 10 out of 10.

The standard of cleaning was low on arrival - lots of hair on floor and even in the sheets. Many cobwebs and lots of dust. The rules on the booking page did not reflect the terms set out in the property info at the cottage e.g. the booking said 'one dog' whereas the booklet at the property said 'one small or medium dog'. Also, the property booklet said that the dog was not allowed on furniture or upstairs. I can't think of anyone who doesn't let their dog on furniture or prevents them from using an entire floor of the property, so I honestly think that this means the property is not dog friendly. The booklet also stated that the fireplace was out of order, even though when I contacted the host (who was very lovely and helpful) she said this was out of date and incorrect. We ran out of supplies that were listed as provided, and had to buy our own toilet paper, dishwasher tablets, laundry capsules, kitchen roll, and washing up brush. The private garden space wasn't attached to the property directly, but was accessed via a communal space. This was disappointing as it meant we couldn't safely and securely let our dog outside, as we didn't want her in the neighbours spaces or even escaping onto the road if a neighbour opened the shared gate.

Lovely oak beamed cottage just a short walk away from the beach, pub (Marstans) and supermarket (Tesco).

The place is spotlessly clean. Comfortable beds and nice furniture. The dressing table/drawers in the double room should be replaced by a slimline wardrobe like the one in the room with two singles as it's too messy having your clothes hanging around on the hooks. The kitchen is adequately equipped but would have benefited from a fridge with a freezer compartment rather than just a fridge. (I notice from "Alison" a previous reviewer that there was a shared freezer, washing machine and dryer, but I wasn't aware of this during our visit). The tap in the bathroom was almost impossible to switch off so reported this. I should have also reported that the big overhead shower doesn't work and that the vertical drawer next to the fridge is broken (hopefully these will be rectified soon). A note should be left about the fact the floor floods if you don't take the plate off the plug hole! There are some nice touches though... a small supply of tea bags, coffee and sugar when we arrived, along with dish soap, scourer, dish cloth and tea towel. There was also hand soap and air freshner in the bathroom. We enjoyed a very comfortable stay overall and managed to have supper out on the patio two nights of our stay.

I have to say that I was disappointed with the property and didn't feel it represented value for money.

The rain shower didn't work, all clogged up, the lower power shower, couldn't be used to its full potential because it flooded the bathroom, a good couple of inches in the whole bathroom. I called the owner to be told it does that, remove the drain cover and it should be ok here are a couple of towels to mop up the water. So I asked for a mop so I could mop the water up first then use the towels to dry off the floor to make it safe to walk on. The cupboard next to the fridge was broken and the fridge door bashed against it every time you opened and shut it. Couldn't get the central heating working so it was cold in the evenings. You were given a key for each french door but you couldn't operate one of them. Didn't like the clothes rail in front of the french door, this was instead of a wardrobe in the master bedroom. Thankfully the tap in the bathroom was replaced nearly at the end of our stay because we really struggled to turn it off and on. There was no where to put your showergel etc in the shower other than the floor. Would I go back again no.

The cottage is perfectly located for exploring the Norfolk coast, Sandringham and Wroxham broad. It is spacious downstairs with excellent facilities. I am recently dsabled and had minor problems getting up from the sofas. I was aware of the bathroom being downstairs but by being careful I managed the stairs. I am 6 foot tall and this provided a challenge accessing so.e parts of the property. Overall the cottage has charm and although the outside sitting area is limited but mitigated by Heacham beach nearby and a long promenade suitable for wheelchair use.. There was only my wife and I so the property more than fulfilled our needs. It would be a challenge accommodating 4 mature adults but when our children were younger they would have loved the bunk beds. The welcome pack was a nice touch. The owners were available if needed but we had no issues at all.

    SEA LIFE Hunstanton

On the South Promenade in Hunstanton is the SEA LIFE sanctuary and aquarium. It's a popular family attraction that also houses Norfolk's Seal Rescue Center and Hospital. Because of the large population of Common Seals and Grey Seals along this stretch of the North Norfolk coast, the seal hospital cares for injured and vulnerable seals and seal pups until they can be released back into the wild. As well as the penguin beach, you can see insects and creepy crawlies at Rainforest Ranger basecamp, then walk through the ocean tunnel and see a huge variety of sea creatures. It is mostly wheelchair and mobility scooter friendly. Toilets and a cafe.

Overlooking the only stretch of the eastern coast facing west, the Hunstanton Heritage Gardens is a public open space. Views across the Wash are spectacular at sunset. Hunstanton's only significant open space covers approximately 6.8 hectares. A Victorian promenade garden with formally laid out annual beds, the Esplanade Gardens remain remarkably unchanged since they were built. The Green, Hunstanton, Norfolk, PE36 6BQ

    Old Hunstanton

Old Hunstanton is a small village adjacent to Hunstanton, a major seaside resort. Unlike its busy sibling, Old Hunstanton retains its quiet character, it has a clifftop walk along the stripped cliffs where you will pass Old Hunstanton Lighthouse and ruins of St Edmund's Chapel. A stunning 40-mile stretch of Norfolk coast path starts near Old Hunstanton. The large sandy beach has sand dunes and is popular with kite surfers and families alike. The Old Town Beach Cafe on the beach serves up delicious food and drinks and is dog friendly.
