What our customers say about their holidays

    • Patricia - Verified booking

Positive points: Very accommodating owner - allowed us to check in anytime after 12 on Christmas Day and let us leave at 10:30 on checkout day.

Lovely location - quiet and with pretty views. Comfortable beds Plenty of towels Toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets and soap powder provided Kitchen good, and very well equipped Lots of games and dvds provided Excellent car parking Dog friendly Pretty Christmas tree set up for us Lovely hot tub Negative points: Access is along single track road for one mile, with very few passing places. On arrival we were informed that the owner had had to put the cold water taps for the upstairs sinks off, as there was hammering in the pipes. The implication was that this had happened that week, and as it was Christmas the plumber’s visit would have to wait. On tracking back in the reviews, I read that people have complained about this since last August and the issue has not been fixed. It was very problematic not having cold water upstairs, especially as the hot water ran extremely hot. We ended up having to use an upstairs toilet and going downstairs to wash hands. Had to clean teeth with hot water. The flushing of the toilets was a bit hit or miss. The downstairs toilet was mostly abandoned by us as it was so unreliable. No functioning lock on the downstairs toilet. The conservatory is unusable in the winter. Despite a heater being provided, it was extremely cold and damp. Mould on the walls in places. When it rains hard, the roof leaks in various places, especially onto the tv and dvd player. You wouldn’t really want to sit and relax in it anyway, as it is rather a hotch potch of old furniture and dog things and the dryer. Not really like the photo on the web. En-suite shower dirty and desperately in need of bleach. We were shown the food for the peacock’s daily visit. I didn’t put it out as it contained raisins, and these are toxic to dogs and we had two dogs with us. The fact there is a peacock who visits the property can be construed both in a positive and negative light. For us, with two dogs, it was a negative. Overall, it needs a good dose of TLC.

The cottage is lovely and in a fantastic area away from everyone.

It has everything that you need already there and you just need to bring food. From a well equipped kitchen to crocks and dressing gowns so you can go in and out of the hot tub - which is high quality and has a lovely change of lights to set the mood. The owner has created a brilliant information book of local walks, pubs and is very welcoming on arrival. The garden is lovely and is laid to shingle. You have use of a BBQ with gas already. Sky TV for all the channels you need all in high definition. Dishwasher / Washing machine / Tumble Dryer / Microwave and a good size free standing freezer along with the usual other white goods. The bedrooms are lovely and spacious and high quality mattress made for a good night sleep! The cottage has two bedrooms - one with a shower on-suite/toilet and the 2nd bedroom next to a lovely bathroom//toilet with a free standing bath. Downstairs is another toilet room. The views outside are of country and fields - The silence is deafening - It is tranquil A large conservatory that has two sofas and a TV and a lovely lounge which is cozy Dogs: We brought our two dogs who loved the place. The shingle outside did hurt their feet a little - but that's because they ran so much! There is a resident Peacock who visits the garden and there is a supply of nuts so you can enjoy feeding it. I can not think of any negative things to say. Recommend visiting The Loughpool Bar and Restaurant - A very quaint building. Lunch was amazing in a good size garden

Generally lovely place in a beautiful location, great "base camp" stay to visit nearby things and a good place to get some very needed relaxing in.

It's a really nice touch that the owner has made up a mix of nuts and biscuits to feed the local peacock with, meaning he pops by to see if he can have lunch and allows you within a few feet of him. Only a few things to make this a complete 5 star experience; The cover for the hot tub is quite heavy, being relatively young and fit we managed it but this could pose a slight issue for older couples, though I'm not sure of a solution or work around for this. While only a minor annoyance the volume on the TV in the snug area goes up and down on its own, going from a whisper to a shout in a few seconds. Some of the building could do with a slight touch up, few holes in the walls where electrics have been modified in the past and not touched back in, but that's probably just me looking at a property from a trade perspective. Pressure on the en-suite shower is a little lower than would be expected considering the water pressure in the rest of the property is incredible. Didn't really get any instructions on how to leave the place, so washed everything up, put the bins out and stripped the bed/ put the towels by the washing machine and hoped for the best.

We really enjoyed our stay at Broadlands farm.

The bed was so comfy and the hot tub was really lovely, with plenty of spare towels. I also got to meet Percy the Peacock which was lovely. The owner was very welcoming and we felt like it was a really good introduction to the property. I think there were only two small points possibly for improvement, but these are minor: - Trying to watch the TV in the lounge was a bit awkward. There was only Would suggest potentially blocking off the door into the dining room and getting a wider second sofa, or getting rid of existing sofas for a big corner one coving the dining room and french doors in the lounge, or swapping the lounge and dining room around (though unconventional) it might add more room. - As it is quite a distance from shops (and we arrived late in the evening) it would be really nice to provide a starter pack of some food - such as eggs, bread, milk, jam etc). With hindsight we should have come prepared but similar properties that we've travelled to (including during the pandemic) have done this for similar reasons. The house was more than we could have asked for, and we would be hoping to come back in the future. Thanks again.

      We had the best time!

The cottage is beautiful, homely with lovely extra touches. Carolyn let us in showed us round! The house was decorated for Christmas still (28th-31st dec) with a beautifully lit tree. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch and just everything about the cottage was exactly what we needed. The hot tub was fab on a cold night and with no light pollution at night we could see the stars! Dog secure, and Ruby loved the outside areas! Our food delivery came and hour early and Carolyn put it all away for us - which we were super grateful for! Cottage was spotless and warm. The WiFi was fast enough, the hot water great and water pressure a little low (it is a cottage in the middle of a teeny village and we are used to fast WiFi and water!) but didn’t cause us any issues with showers/washing pots etc. the hot tub is a large one and is around the back of the property, very private! We explored Symonds Yak, Forest of Dean and popped over the to the Welsh border to visit Tintern. Super happy here and would return! Thanks for making the post Christmas lul a fabulous one! The Clancys xx
