What our customers say about their holidays

    • Steve - Verified booking

The location of the property was very good but unfortunately the cottage neither looked like the photos on the Sykes site, as well as not living up to the standards claimed.

We arrived to a property that due to a serious fire on the main house, had a lot of scaffolding up next door, which did affect the cottage. On a practical side we were affected by the noise of the white scaffolding sheeting each night when the wind was blowing! During the day there were regular comings and goings by tradespeople, as well as drilling etc which all made it difficult to relax when trying to in the sunshine! The outside furniture was of a very poor state with no cushions offered (again very different to the photos on the site). Cleanliness and standard of the property was poor. We were kept awake at night by the many mice/rats running around in the loft. Outside the bathroom the sewerage was coming up when the toilet was flushed, leaving a very unpleasant smell. We went out and ate out a lot more due to the many issues in the cottage. We hardly saw the owners and were very aware that they have a lot on sorting their home out after this major fire. However in hindsight it might have been better to not let the cottage during this period. Although through choice we arrived a day late, we also left a day early as new beds are required in this property as well as sorting the mice/sewerage and cleanliness out. We have photos of all of the above (except the mice) which do not want to attach to this but I am happy to forward at any time. We look forward to receiving a speedy and satisfactory response. We had the best time!

The cottage is beautiful, homely with lovely extra touches. Carolyn let us in showed us round! The house was decorated for Christmas still (28th-31st dec) with a beautifully lit tree. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch and just everything about the cottage was exactly what we needed. The hot tub was fab on a cold night and with no light pollution at night we could see the stars! Dog secure, and Ruby loved the outside areas! Our food delivery came and hour early and Carolyn put it all away for us - which we were super grateful for! Cottage was spotless and warm. The WiFi was fast enough, the hot water great and water pressure a little low (it is a cottage in the middle of a teeny village and we are used to fast WiFi and water!) but didn’t cause us any issues with showers/washing pots etc. the hot tub is a large one and is around the back of the property, very private! We explored Symonds Yak, Forest of Dean and popped over the to the Welsh border to visit Tintern. Super happy here and would return! Thanks for making the post Christmas lul a fabulous one! The Clancys xx

The cottage may sleep 6 people but is unsuitable for 6 to sit and be comfortable.

There is only a very old and uncomfortable sofa big enough for 2 people. Everyone else would have to sit in wooden dining chairs. The proprietor was constantly rummaging through the recycling bins and letting herself into the garden area. Made us wonder whether she was entering the property when we were out. To further finish this point, she proceeded to start cleaning the windows at 8.30pm on our last evening, looking in through the kitchen window and invading our privacy. Whilst the cottage is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, it is strangely uncomfortable and I would not recommend to anyone who wants privacy, comfort or peace and quiet as the local tractor rumbled past the house at 6am each morning waking everyone up. Would not recommend unless you fancy a week in a "homes and gardens" magazine house!

      We loved the Hayloft.

The furnishings and fittings were very much in keeping with the ethos of the place but nevertheless very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped and worked well. Shower small but size dictated by the building and great to have a shower as well as separate bathroom. We were lucky with weather and spent a lot of time for coffee and lunch in the delightful outside court yard. Separate lodge type edifice in the garden great to keep our bike in and also housing another fridge freezer. Very pleasant walks around the village with lots of footpaths, delightful church building being turned into a community facility. Not dramatic countryside but lots of it and cycle ride into Ross each morning very convenient missing out all main roads. All all, a very clever conversion or rebuild making a super holiday retreat.

Perfectly wonderful, a really lovely cottage, clean .

I took my own bedding as I was concerned about getting marks from my dogs paws on the white bedding. The pillows are super puffy and look as though they would be cosy but sadly as soon as you pop your head on, they flatten out. Maybe suitable for others but not for me. I will take my own pillows in the future. The shower was perfectly adequate although after a very short while the shower went cold on 3 days which were on the coldest days of our 5 day stay. We really enjoyed staying here and would certainly return, we used the farm shop for many lovely foods, the homemade lasagna is delicious. Chocolate cake left by Jo was lovely not only in taste but also in gesture , thank you .
