"I have mixed feelings about my family's time at Heron. We did have a good holiday, and although the house was ok, I don't think we will be returning.Pros:- Excellent location- Facilities are *very* good, such as the swimming pool, playroom, and playground- Fair value for moneyCons:The property when we arrived smelt quite badly. It seems to be emanating from the carpet in the living area, so could be due to a previous guest who left the place in a state. Either way, this was fairly unpleasant and marred the stay somewhat. All the radiators and hot water were off when we arrived. The house was 15C inside! Not ideal for a very small baby and a toddler. Heating downstairs was problematic as it's on storage heaters, and even when we got those running the next day one didn't appear to work correctly. Upstairs is all on electric convectors, so at least we managed to get the bedrooms warm for our children. At bathtime on the first night I noticed there was no hot water, and so the children had to go without a bath that night. Once the immersion was turned on it wasn't long before we had hot water, but too late for bathtime. For some reason the owner thought we were arriving on the Monday, when our booking was actually Friday -> Monday. Perhaps this was the cause of this particular issue."

"We had a truly great week at Barn Owl over the New Years period with our small children. The facilities were perfect for our toddlers with indoor play area outdoor play area and indoor swimming pool which was a particular hit with the kids and a perfect back up plan if the weather is not perfect. The house itself is immaculate, has all the facilities including good Wi-Fi. The location was great for what we wanted - fresh country air and space but still a relatively small car journey to the beach and picturesque villages. Tourist brochures and tips are provided which is a nice touch. What we found very handy as we had small, wonderful but time consuming kids was the ease of getting a Sainsburys’s order in the day we arrived. The owners are very pleasant and helpful confirming things like where we find cots etc. All in all I would and am recommending the trip from london down to the Barn Owl."

"Our 2 families had a lovely holiday at Barn Owl. The cottage is very comfortable and the equipment was good, except the lack of a laundry clothes maid and the dryer costing an average of £3 to dry a load. You can't pull up right outside the property, so need to carry your luggage approx 100 metres. We got our shopping delivered by Tesco so that we didn't need to carry that too. Don't let this put you off though. There's loads of room for the kids to play, outside and in the large play room, and the pool is lovely and warm. We were supplied with more than enough wood to keep us warm, but the rest of the heating is by storage heater (which we didn't need to use). We are very likely to return, and have no problem recommending Barn Owl."

"What a fantastic place Swift Cottage is. Its our second visit and would come again and again. The actual cottage is beutiful and has everything you need for a great enjoyable relaxing stay. The indoor pool is a dream and the kids had to be dragged out every evening as they just wanted to swim and swim. It's location is perfect for what we wanted, 30mins drive to the beach in Paignton, 30mins drive to amazing Dartmoor and 15mins for pretty much anything else you want. The village Co-op is very well stocked and if you need anything its right on the doorstep."

"We had a great week at Rook cottage, very comfortable and a well equipped kitchen. The swimming pool was an added bonus and had it all to ourselves when we used it. Although we didn't have any children with us, it would be brilliant for a family, the safe play area and the leisure room are ideal, and there was a highchair and travel cot in the cottage. It was nice to have everything on the same level. It was very quiet and had ample of parking. The only downside is you can't walk into the town and the roads are very narrow."
