"Stayed at Babylon cottage for 4 Days/nights to celebrate New Year together with friends. The house is a beautiful 3 double bedroomed property with lots of traditional features as well as plenty of welcome modern touches such as multiple TV’s and Sky Q. We arrived the Saturday after Christmas and the place was beautifully decorated with a real tree and fabulous garland around the huge stone fireplace in the living room as well as another lovely tree in the dining room. It was obvious that a lot of care had been taken to make it look festive. The owner was really helpful and replied to all emails really promptly. Both couples had a child so we needed to alter sleeping arrangements so the kids both had their own bed. John immediately said he would put up a zbed in the biggest bedroom. This was almost as big as a single bed and my friends 7 year old daughter happily slept on it whilst our 12 year old got the luxury of a king size bed. The room was huge so plenty of space for both kids to have their own stuff. Both other bedrooms were lovely and comfy too.We took our dog and although we took her bed she much preferred the dog bed provided behind the sofa!! We had plenty of beautiful walks during our stay as the local area is fabulous, we particularly enjoyed our walk to Rivington Pike. The stone floors meant that bringing a muddy dog home wasn’t a problem. The house was really warm and cosy. Log burners were a bonus but we certainly didn’t need them for heat.Lots of local amenities such as shops and pubs in walking distance although we drove to a pub called the White Crow for food on New Year’s Day which was delicious.Would highly recommend cottage and would love to return."

"What a hidden gem. The cottage is in a rural area so is very relaxing and peaceful but is also a short drive to Bury, Rochdale and Manchester if you like to do a bit of shopping or eating out etc. The cottage itself is immaculate and really well equipped. We holiday in the UK and can honestly say it's the best equipped cottage we've ever stayed in. The king sized bed was a fabulous addition and having access to a washing machine is a massive bonus. Dawn's home made cakes on arrival were a surprise and omg .. delicious. The grounds are amazing. The patio is lovely to just sit with a coffee or a glass of wine or you can explore down by the waterfall or surrounding area. The horses are stunning and really friendly. Zac (the bigger horse) is very gentle and his brother Sammy is a real cheeky chappie. Little Alfie the dog is adorable too and is happy to accept any attention thrown his way.Dawn and Dave are the loveliest hosts. We were made to feel really welcome from day one. They honestly go above and beyond to make your stay great. We loved getting to know the history of Oriels Retreat from them. They're also very funny so we had a lot of laughs too. We can't recommend Oriels Retreat enough. We're already looking forward to going back.Christine and Andrew"

"We initially booked Oriels Retreat for four weeks but enjoyed our time there so much that we decided to extend it by a further week. Every single aspect of our stay was faultless, from the hosts to the cottage itself and the surrounding areas. Our hosts, Dave and Dawn, were exceptional and made us feel extremely welcome from the moment we arrived. They looked after us throughout the duration of our stay, providing us with logs for the fire to fresh towels and bedding, along with slices of homemade cake. The cottage itself had everything we needed to make our stay as comfortable as possible and was incredibly clean and tidy throughout the duration of our time there. The surrounding areas were picturesque with plenty of walking trails and things to see, including the ruins and the waterfall. Our highlight had to be our neighbours, the horses, who were always friendly and approachable along with Alfie the dog. The thing we will miss most is the peace and quiet, especially at night time when the only thing you can hear is the occasional owl call. Not only have we found a home away from home but we have also made friends for life in Dave and Dawn. We will definitely be back in the very near future and cannot recommend Oriels Retreat enough."

"We stayed here for a week as our house sale and purchase didn't take place at the same time. John could not have been more accommodating, going out of his way to ease a stressful situation making the cottage available at short notice. There were a few bits and pieces left for us in the fridge which were very welcome upon our arrival. We could not have been more pleasantly surprised at the cottage itself. a superb blend of modern day decor with illuminated stairs and rainfall shower, crossed with traditional stone flooring, woodburning fires and eclectic decor. Absolutely loved the cottage and now we have moved from the area we have a go to cottage for our return trips to visit family and friends. Thank you for a wonderful stay."

"This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful area, with a lovely feel to it. It was very clean with a modern kitchen and bathroom. The owners are rather new to the game so a few tweaks would make it an outstanding cottage. Things such as an iron, some teaspoons, smaller drinking glasses, better lighting in the living room, a more comfortable sofa, information about rubbish disposal and recycling would be useful too. The 1920’s bed had a lovely modern mattress on it and was extremely comfy. More info on where the local pubs and shops are would help. We didnt find the wonderful Bob’s Smithy Inn until 2 days before we went home, the food and service there is exceptional. All in all we would definitely recommend this cottage."
