What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sam - Verified booking

N a nutshell, adequate, but wouldn't book again unless serious improvements were made.

We knew from previous reviews that the front door had issues - key code lock worked fine but provided no way of 'locking' the door once inside. Although only someone with the code could enter, the door could do with a bolt lock for added security and the key code lock being towards the top of the door meant the bottom of the door had a lot of play in it and nothing holding it in place. Living room although nice enough was not a comfortable place to relax in the evening. Both armchairs were incredibly uncomfortable and sofa too tiny for more than one person to enjoy. Tried to light a fire but the chimney had obviously not been swept as it wouldn't stay alight longer than a few minutes and the smoke wasn't being pulled up at all (and we have a fire ourselves so know how light one) - wasted money on logs. Kitchen was well equipped and even had a small countertop dishwasher which was handy - everything you could need. The walls however had obvious damp issues, the worktop around the sink has seen better days to say the least and the radiator was rusting where the paint has peeled off. The garden has lovely views of the mountains and would provide a nice place to sit, but the steps are treacherous and even had loose slabs on the edges of the steps towards the top. They were also green which made them slippery when wet - some serious TLC needed and wouldn't currently be appropriate for children or anyone even slightly unstable on their feet. Upstairs, both bedrooms were a decent size and the beds comfortable - ample storage space too which is always a bonus. The bathroom however was also in need of some TLC. The shower screen had black mould along the rubber seal and parts of the screen were falling apart. Paint was peeling off the wall due to more obvious damp issues. The bath also didn't drain well at all, meaning you were showering in inches of water and the tub ended up getting really slippery even when using the provided shower mat. There were cobwebs in the corners of the ceilings in almost every room and the level of cleanliness/upkeep was just not what we would expect. I'm not one to usually write reviews, especially ones that are not positive, but felt like sharing our experience was necessary in this case. There are a few poor reviews for this property and I wish we'd taken them more seriously before booking.

We stayed for nearly a week and loved it.

Sue and Gary are very hospitable people, they can't do enough to help. Being a very dog-friendly place, set in fantastic scenery, we relaxed very quickly. On arrival, a few essentials such as milk, Tea and coffee plus a bottle of wine and some welsh cakes, all very much appreciated after a long drive. There are laundry facilities and a second freezer in an outbuilding at the cottage but you should let Sue know if you want to use the washing machine as she has to divert the water to the building. The cottage itself is made of stone and has been converted very well. It is in an area of "dark Skies", on clear nights the stars were magnificent. There are plenty of walking trails which you can follow. We were able to use the shop and takeaway facility of the Forest Holidays campsite down the track from the cottage. The campsite is a totally separate entity to the cottage but they were very pleasant and helpful. We had no telephone signal at the cottage but the owners have installed wi-fi which we found useful, we could use some whats -app saved numbers. I am not too tech savvy so other people might be able to do more. Beddgerert itself is very small with some eating places; we went to the local pub, the Saracens Head. The meal was fine but they stopped serving food at about 730pm for some reason. On the way to Snowdonia; about a 30-minute drive from the cottage, the sat nav took us through the village, a pleasant ride with some really good scenery. I would suggest keeping the car topped up with fuel. As filling stations are rather few and far between we tended to use the Tesco store in Porthmadog for shopping and fuel. Caernarfon is in the opposite direction to Beddgelert and about the same distance as Porthmadog, it has all the usual big town facilities, we just happen to use Porthmadog which is from where the Heritage trains left. The cottage is also not very far from Criccieth which has some good beaches and a castle. We really enjoyed the stay and are considering returning next year.

Waterfall Cottage is a bijou cottage for two (plus dog) with bags of character.

Set in a beautiful location off the beaten track with lots of walks on the doorstep and stunning views of Snowdonia. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. The lovely hosts Sue and Gary were very keen to share their knowledge of the local area including its history and they made sure that we had everything we needed for our stay. The cottage was 2 miles from Beddgelert and it was in a perfect spot for exploring the coast, railways and castles of this part of Wales. We were very lucky with the weather but had come prepared for showers. We did experience difficulty eating out in the area due a shortage of hospitality staff, so would recommend that visitors are prepared for self catering, which is easy in the well catered kitchen. A great holiday and we plan to return.

Condition and length of road to cottage ahould be better explained in the advert .

Layout of exterior of property is a little deceptive as we thought the seating area was directly outside waterfall cottage . Was not aware owner had a dog that had free roam of grounds prior to booking . Water from taps is brown and offputting we purchased bottled water but even when boiling this in the kettle it went cloudy due to the tap water being boiled prior . Cottage was a lot smaller than appeared in the pictures and a little clostraphobic . Parking for 2 cars but unable to turn car around when both spaces occupied . Overall a beatiful location and host however we felt a little by the cottage and its layout for the price point

The property is a good location with on street parking & has all the basics you need but is in need of some TLC and a good clean.

I had to remove dog poo from the back garden area on arrival, the back door in particular was very dirty & splattered with mud inside, the 2 chairs in the living room werent very clean & there were cobwebs throughout. The bedrooms were comfortable & nicely furnished with plenty of storage. The front door locks need attention as the door doesn't feel very secure. The guttering needs attention too, as when it rains, there's a constant loud drip onto the shelter outside the back door. The rear garden area is pleasant but very steep & slippy when wet. Not currently value for money & definitely in need of a spruce up.
