    Aldeburgh Holiday Cottages

A seaside town on Suffolk's coast, Aldeburgh is home to a beautiful high street, the famous Aldeburgh beach and lots of award-winning cafes, pubs and restaurants. Popular with friends, families and couples, it's also located close to the Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty meaning there's plenty of places to explore - whatever time of year you're visiting. As the birthplace of composer Benjamin Britten, it's packed in history too as is the nearby Snape Maltings.

Holiday cottages in Aldeburgh are just as impressive. Think coastal cottages with sea views and hot tubs outside. Or, holiday homes in the surrounding areas with bars and private game rooms. We also have pet-friendly properties in the central town of Aldeburgh - where you'll find everything you need for a home away from home experience like luxury en-suites, surround sound entertainment and off-road parking to make everything that little bit easier.

Choose Snaptrip for your next holiday and you'll get to pick from thousands of properties across England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. As well as special offers, and our best price guarantee, our friendly customer service team can also provide you with a few recommendations in the local area. Such as things to do and places to go including the Aldeburgh Festival.

Lavender Cottage is a beautiful old building.

The sitting room has lots of room for four people and the house is in a great location. The bedrooms are bright and spacious. As you would expect from a 17c building, it is quirky and you have to expect things like the internal doors not shutting and getting used to ducking your head to avoid the low beams. The kitchen is very well equipped and the bed linen and bath towels were crisp and clean. Sadly though this property was very let down by; * the garden which was a big disappointment as it clearly has not been cared for at all. The shrubs in the pots at the end of the garden were dead. The plants were all very over grown particularly a every vicious old rose bush, the beautiful apple tree is so low and over grown that you have to stoop to walk up the garden. To the left of the back door was a pile of discarded and dirty carpet. For want of a days hard work this could all be improved and would make a huge difference to the quality and enjoyment of staying there. * the house is in need of a deep clean, the windows most particularly which had dirt, cobwebs etc between the external windows and double glazing in the sitting room. * the bathroom had received a good “between tenants” clean but again it needs a deal clean in all of the floors corners etc.

3 night stay in Lavender Cottage over New Year 2022.

We expected the interiors to be quite basic and they were...partly in keeping with the 'higgledy-piggledy' nature of the 16th Century cottage, but it did feel pretty sparse and not very 'loved'. The highlight of the whole house was the stove/fireplace which gave a lovely centre to the living space and was why we chose the cottage over another similarly priced one in the town. That said, we were disappointed by the lack of 'welcome pack' (a bottle & Norfolk biscuits for some reason!) - much less than we have ever come across - and the complete absence of anything like salt, pepper, oil, milk such that we had to buy everything like that, frustrating. This has never happened before in any of the self catered properties we have stayed in, many of them with Best of Suffolk, and only added to the rather stark and unwelcoming nature of the cottage. In addition, the freezer was in need of defrosting; there were no coat hooks which would have been welcome given the wet weather; and in general we felt the cottage was tired and in need of some refreshing.

Property was clean, comfortable and as advertised.

Aldeburgh is lovely and we’ll definitely visit again. However, we had a couple of admin issues (which might be down to Sykes with whom we booked). We’d asked for a cot, stair gate and high chair to be provided when we booked and we rang the second contact number provided by Sykes via email the day before who confirmed these had been requested and would be provided. However when we arrived none of these had been set up - we managed to find them in a cupboard and set them up ourselves but took some time - the stair gate in particular was fiddly and a bit insecure but necessary as the stairs are very steep and we have a two year old. The first contact number (mobile) provided by Sykes seems to be incorrect; no one responded to that one despite several messages and it was different from the one in the welcome folder when we arrived. So I think there is some miscommunication between Sykes and the property owner which needs to be resolved. However, overall the property was good and we had a very enjoyable stay.

As described by other reviewers this cute house is very well supplied with everything one might need, well equipped kitchen, plenty of towels, instant hot water etc.

It was just warm enough while we there to sit outside in the tiny garden for before dinner drinks and we even used the parasol on one occasion. It's also handy for Tesco and the Coop if you want to shop on arrival. We used the beach fish shacks every day as we love fish. On the down side, the property is beginning to need maintenance. A leaking tap in the kitchen has caused the oak worktop to be stained with black mould and the same worktop is showing signs of wear near the cooker. The undercounter fridge/freezer took two days to cool down fully and the shower mixer is very stiff. The note in the shower blames limescale but this appears to be a soft water area. In addition one of the bedside reading lights was faulty and we struggled with the Roman blind. One final note, the staircase is narrow and steep and so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

It was our first time in Aldeburgh and we enjoyed a wonderful stay in your beautiful cottage - thank you!

Very well equipped, comfortable beds, good showers and we loved the bold wall colours throughout. The best bit was being only a 40 second amble to the beach, which was great to stroll along in both directions. We'd love to live in the Martello Tower! Whilst Europe sweltered in scorching temperatures, Suffolk had stormy winds, torrential rain, heavy grey clouds, then sun and blue skies, all in one day - very changeable! We enjoyed trips to Southwold and Thorpeness and will visit Sutton Hoo on the way home to Kent. Moot Hall and the little museum inside are worth a visit too. We mostly self-catered but had fish'n'chips from the Golden Galleon (yum!) and ate twice at Prezzo, with delicious pizzas and pastas.

The sea has slowly been nibbling away at the once thriving seaport of Dunwich. In the 14th Century it matched London in size and was the capital of the Kingdom and in the Domesday book of 1086 it's population was over 3000. Now around 240 inhabitants live in this historic village.
