What our customers say about their holidays

    • Tracey - Verified booking

I’ll start by saying that we had a fantastic week’s holiday, however the lodge was disappointing and not what we’d imagined from the photos.

It has so much potential to be a gorgeous lodge but as recent reviews show, there desperately needs to be some upgrading/ maintenance done. On entry there was a sticker over the door showing it was Covid safe and had been cleaned - this was merely procedure I’d imagine as when we entered the lodge there was an empty sweet wrapper and tissue wrapper left. There was also food stains left on the dishwasher door and the fridge had clearly not been cleaned on the inside. There are gorgeous skylight windows in the kitchen and bathroom, however it’s evident they have not been cleaned in a long, long time. The broken shelf in the fridge is annoying as you can’t store bottles there - this really wouldn’t take long to fix. The mattress on the bed also desperately needs to be replaced as it’s so uncomfortable and really dips into the middle. Overall, the cleanliness of the entire lodge just wasn’t up to scratch, particularly given we are in Covid times. I had taken cleaning products with me so cleaned where needed on arrival (not exactly what you want to do when on holiday!). If you are booked to go here I’d advise you do the same. The decking area and hot tub are amazing. We took a foldable wooden table with us as I had noticed on photos that the furniture on the decking does not include a table, which isn’t handy if you want to eat sitting outside. Again, just a small detail which would greatly add to the comfort of your stay. The location of the lodge is really brilliant. We did a wine tour/ tasting, visited places like Looe, Polperro, Charlestown, The Eden Probect and the Jamaica Inn whilst there. No where was more than around 30minutes drive. Overall, we wouldn’t return to this particular lodge and definitely wouldn’t rate it as 4 stars which is what Sykes rate it.

We loved our mini break it was very needed!

! Location: The pod is located in a very quiet area. It is on a working farm but this was no issuse as we felt we were secluded and had all the privacy needed. A car is recommended to get around, car space is available just outside. One evening we walked to the local pub to have dinner and daily walk around the area down to the lake. Plenty of beaches within a 30 min drive, loads of national trust walks and sights around too. Pod: The pod has been finished to a high standard. There was Christmas lights decorated in the pod which made it feel magical. The pod had everything we needed, we cooked a few meals with the plug in hob with ease. The bed was super comfortable for a good night sleep. Their is a little garden space to sit outside if wanted. The pod was really clean and had everything we needed. Hosts: The hosts were just a text away if we needed anything. On our arrival she popped in to say hello and allowed us to ask questions about the local area. Super friendly and put us at ease. Hosts dogs were beautiful and super friendly. Overall we enjoyed our stay it was much needed and the fact we could bring our dog on his first hoilday with ease made it even more special. Already recommended the pod to our family and friends and would happily stay again. Thank you :)

This was our 3rd time on this site as we love it here.

This lodge is fantastic but a couple of let downs unfortunately. The skylights in the bedroom really need blinds as being woke up at 7 am on holiday is not fun especially when staying a week. The hot tub had to be topped up every day because there seems to be a small leak and you would easily lose 4 inches of water whilst in it. They are now aware there is a problem. I had to wash some cupboard doors down because they had big splashes of orange coloured sauce on them and the oven had been cleaned but the oven door was covered in grease which we didn't realise and filled the kitchen area with smoke when we opened the door just from preheating it. The fridge underneath the fruit and veg drawers had puddles of water under them which got worse over the week so I had to keep mopping it up. We had to get the frying pan replaced and the tin opener because both were broken. Things like this should be checked when cleaning is done. There is also no cupboard space for food we had to move all dishes so we could just use a cupboard. And the cupboard wich contains glasses i couldn't reach at all and my husband struggled due to where it is by the breakfast bar which has no stools. We would not book this lodge again unfortunately but will return to the same site and stay in a different lodge.

We’ve stayed at this sight before in a different lodge and had a brilliant time.

Thought we would book again, this time we took our 8 month old daughter - as it states baby friendly. Due to the large skylights in the bedroom it was impossible to put her down for a nap in the day, definitely needs blinds. The flooring is lifting in areas, I’m assuming where it’s getting wet from coming in after being in the hot tub, this made some areas rough/sharp so had to be careful with a crawling baby. The high chair provided was filthy, and made it difficult for us to clean as the food had been dried onto the fabric for some time. There was also large puddles of water under the sink behind the bin, which we hadn’t noticed until taking the bin out when leaving. We ended up leaving a day early from our holiday, as we found it inconvenient with a young child and unable to take her for a pram walk locally without going in the car, as the place is just surrounded by stones - no tarmac. Definitely not somewhere I would stay again with a baby, but for the price and location it would be a lovely place to stay after some improvements.

Whilst we enjoyed our time together away as a Couple, we were quite disappointed in the general up keep of the cabin.

The cleanliness was generally appalling, there was a lamp missing in the lounge area, no drapes on the bed (please don't make the covid excuse)the toilet made a funny noise, and the pan needed descaling which, if it was being cleaned properly in the first place wouldn't be needed. Still no shelf in the fridge door, which makes storage difficult. The sofa has castors on and every time you sat down it skidded across the floor. Cobwebs everywhere, its clearly not being vacuumed properly there was visible dust ans dirt underneath the blinds, around the skirting boards, behind the bed. All of the walls had marks all over them and clearly in need of a re paint. The sky light in the bathroom has Clearly had a leak the plaster is flaking and cracked on the ceiling. On checking next years prices it has risen by £150!!! We will definitely NOT be back, if the cabin was in in tip top condition it we have considered but that's ridiculous! I have taken pictures if you want to see them, but what a difference from the last time we stayed 2 years ago.
