    Eyam Holiday Cottages

Those who enjoy dark tourism will surely enjoy a stay in one of Snaptrip’s holiday cottages in Eyam: known as the ‘plague village,' with a fascinating back-story and rich history. Sitting within the Derbyshire Dales, within the Peak District National Park, Eyam has been occupied since Ancient Briton times and was long a mining town.

Today, Eyam’s main claim to fame is that of its community isolation during the bubonic plague. When the infection was discovered in the village in 1665, locals agreed to do their bit to protect others and locked down the community to stop spread. The Eyam Museum documents this interesting history as well as how it recovered from its isolation through the manufacture of shoes, silks and other materials. Between browsing the museum and the historical plague sites of interest, visitors can enjoy drinks at the local pub, The Miners Arms, attend events at the village club and stroll some of the local walking routes.

Eyam holiday cottages come in all shapes and sizes. Snaptrip boasts thousands of properties on its site so there’s truly something for everyone. All bookings are protected by our best price guarantee and our customer service team are contactable by phone or email for any support you may need.

What our customers say about their holidays

Have been visiting the Peak District for a great number of years and Town End Barn was one of the nicest places we have stayed.

Bradwell is a lovely village where everybody is friendly. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable. The upside-down layout (bedrooms & bathroom downstairs, with lounge, diner & kitchen upstairs) may take some getting to used to for some people, but it posed no issues for us. Be aware that access to the upper floor is via a wooden, slightly winding staircase and may be a tad difficult for those people unsteady on their feet. Off-road parking was a bonus, especially in a fairly busy village. However, there are absolutely no noise issues at all. After a day of touring/sight-seeing, the outside seating area was most welcome for an afternoon tea , or glass of wine. We took full advantage of all three village pubs, Fish &Chip shop, Co-Op Store and Post Office. The White Hart provided the warmest of welcomes and a quiz night on a Wednesday evening (where we did very poor....). Unfortunately there was no food on offer, but the log burner/fire was great. The Shoulder of Mutton also provided a very warm welcome, with the added bonus of serving food. The Sunday Lunch was great (booking advisable). Although there were a number of different opinions relating to the Fish & Chip shop, we found the food to be of a good standard. The Co-Op mini-supermarket store offered everything we needed. All-in-all, we had a fantastic week, made all the better by the lovely accommodation and welcoming people of Bradwell. We will return.

The location of the property is ideal for visiting Bakewell and the surrounding area.

However, the property is in need of some redecorating in places and was not particularly well-cleaned on our arrival, especially the kitchen/oven/fridge. The bottom oven did not work at all and my email regarding this has not been replied to by your company (neither was a previous one I sent with regard to extending our stay). The tap in the kitchen often fell off as did one of the bottom outside boards on one of the cupboards. There is insufficient cutlery (forks). The shower is tricky to use - there is a very fine line between extremely hot and freezing cold and water leaks out of the back of the shower head. The shower is positioned in the narrowest part of the bath and causes extreme condensation as there is no fan in the bathroom. Generally, there is a lot of condensation on the cottage windows. The parking situation is very tight for two cars, especially as it is advisable to reverse park due to the regularly busy traffic when wishing to drive out. The area outside the cottage is covered in foliage and therefore very slippy after rain or frost. The downstairs area is comfortable and cozy (living & dining room) and the bedrooms are well-sized, with comfortable beds.

Lovely little cottage with lots of potential.

A few minor issues but worth noting. The soap dispenser in the bathroom was empty so we had to buy our own hand soap not a major issue but I would expect it to be available for us. There was no toilet brush or shower curtain. No washing up sponges provided in the kitchen, just a flannel which wasn't ideal. Appreciate the cottage is old but there are a lot of cobwebs that have blatantly been there for a while and could be dealt with a duster, just makes the place look a little unkempt. Someone's old contact lenses were left on the bedside table which wasn't nice either. Seems there is a lack of attention to detail here compared to other cottages we have stayed at for a similar price. The host did leave us some milk and biscuits which was lovely. It would be good for future guest for the kitchen to have some oil, tin foil, kitchen roll etc. Again something we have had in other stays for a similar price. Overall a pleasant stay, lovely cottage just needs some tweaks from the hosts and it could be amazing.

A delightful cottage in the heart of the Peak District.

Ideally situated in the pretty village of Bradwell which offers all facilities you could ask for on the doorstep. The cottage lived up to its rating and provided every amenity needed for an enjoyable and comfortable holiday with our dog. Worth noting from an earlier review was the internet access has recently been upgraded to a high speed system connected to a modern multimedia television system offering on demand services. As previously mentioned the village is ideally placed to visit all of the sights of the Peak District without driving for hours. There are many walking trails which can be reached directly or within a short drive from the cottage. Also worthy of mention is the cottage is within two miles distance from the Derbyshire and Lancashire Gliding Club and would make an ideal base for a weeks flying at this excellent facility. Very happy to recommend this highly and certainly equalled the standard of previous Sykes cottages we have stayed in.

Negative: When we arrived (on a dark November afternoon) the heating was off.

We spent an hour trying to get the heating to come on using the thermostat. Eventually we found the heating was off at the boiler. We never managed to get the thermostat to work and managed the eating by turning it on and off manually. The lighting in the dining room is poor so we couldnt easily read the heating instructions. The Radiator in the bedroom was turned off. The bedside light in the main bedroom had no bulb. There was a 9" by 6“ hole in the bathroom ceiling by the light switch. Looks like an electrician did some work in the roof space and didn't close it up. There is a 6" step down on the drive that it would be very easy to damage your car on or twist your ankle. There was nowhere to put drinks etc while watching TV, we brought a bedside table down from upstairs. General cleanliness was "ok" at best. Positive: Comfy bed! Great location near town. Hot shower! Lots of wine glasses
