What’s best about England holiday cottages?

Location, location, location – it’s the most important consideration for any holiday. England holiday cottages are all across the UK, with many amazing options located out in the countryside, next to the coast, or slap-bang in the middle of the city. The UK boasts some incredible and natural landscapes, for instance the magnificent peaks and bodies of water that define the Lake District, or the wild open spaces of the Yorkshire moors.

In Victorian times holidaymakers would head out in droves to seaside towns like Whitby, Blackpool or Weymouth. These quintessentially British locations are still well worth visiting, offering all the fun of the fair combined with beautiful beaches and rugged coastal paths. The British coastline is an ideal spot for a cottage holiday, and many of the properties on offer have histories dating back to the Industrial Revolution and even beyond – look out for former miner’s properties and even converted mills that are bursting with character.

No cottage holiday is ever the same. Forget cookie-cutter accommodation and choose a home away from home that’s unique and full of character, whether you’re looking for something large and spacious for a group trip, or your very own idyllic hideaway steeped in romance, history, and magic.

"Quite disappointed. Sadly the lodge is in bad disrepair. The TV signal was so poor it was unwatchable. General cleanliness was poor, there was thick black sludge around the bath plug hole. There was also slot of mold on the walls in the bedroom due to poor ventilation and also the air on the first night was thick with anti mold spray and bleach despite nothing being clean in the bedroom causing an uncomfortable first nights stay. We wasn't aware until we arrived that we would have to pay for our own gas and electricity charges which wasn't cheap. Cost us £26 for the week on top of the overall stay. We even had to pay the standing charges for the gas and electricity also. All of the pots and cutlery wasn't clean. The only door in and out of the property didn't lock. The bed was very uncomfortable also. Location is good but This holiday was nearly £600 for the week including the gas and electricity which is massively over priced. And then to top it all off, we was told to have the bed linen laundry ect ready for no later than 9am on the last day which we did, the owner couldn't even be bothered to check us out or anything even though she lives in the attached building and was in. After knocking and dining the door bell we had to just leave in the end. Pay no more than £280 for this stay if you are happy with all of the above."

"Stylishly renovated, with everything you could need. Loved eating breakfast in the upstairs sitting room looking out to sea. Many tourist attractions are within easy reach. There is a dog friendly beach at Portheras Cove which is absolutely stunning and very secluded about an hours walk along the coastal path. We had a big problem trying to find parking, on arrival there wasn’t a space and we had to ask the neighbour if we could drive down to the property along his drive way to unload. We then had to park in a public car park 3/4 mile away. We were conscious of previous reviews of vehicles being vandalised and didn’t want to park anywhere that might upset the local residents. We had to park in the public car park several times. The property is supposed to have sea views from the garden, but don’t expect to be sitting in the garden looking at the sea. You can only see the sea if you peep through a gap in the hedge which overlooks the neighbours lawn and sitting area. However we still enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others."

"A relaxing week in S17359, a very cosy little cottage with an open fire, which we had burning every evening during our cold February holiday. Large, secure garden for the dog, would be lovely in warmer weather. Easy access to amazing beaches, would recommend Horsey Gap to see the seals, and Winterton-on-Sea for deserted beaches, and a very good beach cafe. We didn't try the local pub as it doesn't serve food until 7pm, and with a young child that was a bit too late for us. Only slight negative is the building work going on next door who started pretty early a couple of days (8.15 ish), and the builders literally right outside the bathroom window one morning! One improvement we would suggest would be lights on the tree in the parking area - coming back after dark, the area is totally unlit and it is tricky to see exactly where to go. Overall though, a lovely little cottage for a quiet break, with good access to amazing beaches."

"A well presented comfortable cottage with excellent amenities. For us the main problem was the proximity of the road with very fast traffic. If this problem were to be resolved then we would stay again. Unfortunately the garden, though enclosed is not Dog proof, especially for an inquisitive terrier. The outlook from the conservatory is marred by dilapidated fencing and gate to left of the property. The cottage would benefit from a welcome/information book detailing appliance operating instructions (the hob baffled us for a while), and information about local amenities such as vet, doctor, bus timetable etc..We are sorry these are all negative points, but they are not complaints but observations based on many years of holiday letting experience. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay."

"This is a nicely appointed and presented small cottage; a lot of thought has gone into the equipment provided and the furnishings. Apart from the main bedroom, upstairs is very small and a big bloke like me has to pirouette around the bathroom door to get in. The bed completely fills the second bedroom. The main issue is the speed of the traffic, in both directions on the country road immediately outside the front gate. With no pavement and the off-road parking being 30m north, that’s a bit of a safety issue, especially with a dog and a limited mobility member of our party. That said, the owner happened to be there when we arrived and kindly offered to let us park in a neighbouring property and use the back entrance via the garden."
