Holiday Cottages in the UK

The UK is a land of contrasts; head away from major cities like London, Birmingham, Liverpool and you’ll quickly reach the stunning natural landscapes that characterise places like Cornwall, the Lake District, and Dartmoor. From amazing historic landmarks to exquisite restaurants, there’s so much to experience in the UK, and holiday cottages are a great choice if you want accommodation that offers quality and comfort while giving you the freedom to holiday on your own terms.

Picture a cottage and you’re perhaps thinking of a cosy little idyll, maybe a traditional terrace or former miner’s dwelling. These holiday cottages are great for year-round breaks, and are uniquely British. There are many kinds of UK holiday cottages available, including spacious modern lodges, pet-friendly barn conversions and even holiday cottages boasting their own hot tub or swimming pool – and yes they are normally heated!

What to do on your UK holiday cottage holiday

No matter where you travel to across the length and breadth of Britain, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable getaway. Head to the southern tip of the country and you’ll find some world-class beaches and a temperate climate. Cornwall boasts some exquisite strips of sand and surfing spots such as at Fistral Beach, or you head a little upwards to North Devon and discover one of the best sandy beaches in Europe, the stunning Woolacombe Beach.

Great beaches aren’t unique to Britain, but what marks this island out as special is its long history and the sheer number of fascinating historic landmarks scattered throughout the land. There are great castles all over the place, well over two thousand in Scotland alone! Prime examples include Conwy Castle in Wales, Stirling Castle in Scotland and Bamburgh Castle, located on the coast of Northumberland.

Beyond beaches and castles there’s so much more going on, from world-class arts festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe to miles upon miles of hiking trails, cycle paths, and mountains to climb. And what better way to enjoy the country than with a stay in your very own little castle? Check out the selection of great UK holiday cottages, available for all tastes and budgets.

"Very nice cosy cottage styled house in a small village location. The house was clean and reasonably well maintained, a few very minor issues. The house is fitted with good quality appliances (washing machine said to be temperamental, we didn't use it) and furniture is all in good condition. Bedrooms are all clean and beds and bedding very comfortable. Plenty of wardrobe/storage space. Bathrooms have electric showers, although the water pressure is not brilliant, they are adequate. There is a bath in the ground floor bathroom. The house has a nice enclosed garden, suitable to let a dog outside with reasonable security. There is gated off-road parking at the side of the property. Nice touches are the welcome tea, eggs, etc, the comfortable furnishings and the woodburning stove in the main living room. All wood was ready, dry and supplied inclusive. The village is very small, one shop/post office opening at limited times, but reasonably well stocked (all major shops are close by 7 miles in Welshpool). There is a recently re-opened pub, which has been renovated and serves very good food on a limited menu and real ale at the time we stayed. Both pub and shop are just a few minutes walk from the house. Overall a nice place to stay, a good location for local walks, using a base for exploring Wales or just relaxing in the village area."

"We had the most wonderful holiday. S50147 has so much charm of an old cottage with some modern character. Fully equipped and well thought out with lots of little extras. The garden was a wonderful bonus and we spent many happy hours relaxing while the dogs played or sprawled on the lawns. We even had fresh raspberries for breakfast from the garden. The house is ideal for a family using all the bedrooms, especially with an upstairs shower room and toilet, but the stairs are steep if you are less mobile and care should be taken on them. The downstairs bedroom is large and very comfortable with a bathroom adjacent. We loved the modern kitchen and fully equipped utility room. The owner left milk and bread etc, plus coals for the bbq. Plenty of logs for a fire if you need one. All in all we had a lovely time, and whilst Meifod is very quiet we enjoyed walks and eating in the recommended inns. It was only 15 minutes to supermarkets are and shops in Welshpool. We will definitely return to S50147. Thank you "

"We have had a lovely week's stay in this cottage - very peaceful and scenic. Thoroughly recommend Folly Farm if you have kids, and they loved the sandy beaches of Tenby. The Chocolate Factory in Haverfordwest was also a winner with them. A great pub with amazing views of Cleddau Bridge is the Jolly Sailor - great food and amazing play area for little ones. Cottage Inn in the village is also very friendly and welcoming. there are lots of lovely scenic walks in and around the village. A great base to explore the best that Pembrokeshire has to offer - thanks!"

"We found this cottage on TripAdvisor and although it wasn't by the sea, it looked lovely. It was perfect for Easter (garden for egg hunts) and I had my birthday on Easter Sunday too. It is in a perfect location, peaceful and quiet and the cottage is cosy. There is lots of useful information about things to do. The Cottage Inn in the village is nice. We did Marloes Peninsula walk, which I definitely recommend. We had a fantastic time, thank you so much, Hope to come back again soon."

"Cottage had everything we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Definitely value for money. Mrs Wozencraft came to visit us on our second day to check everything was ok. Very welcoming and friendly. We were delighted with the Welsh Cakes and cut flowers was a lovely personal touch. Cottage was in a quite location with amazing views of the hills opposite. Just minutes away from Rhayader for restaurants/pubs and shops. Perfectly located for visits to the Elan Valley and beyond."
