Holiday Cottages in the UK

The UK is a land of contrasts; head away from major cities like London, Birmingham, Liverpool and you’ll quickly reach the stunning natural landscapes that characterise places like Cornwall, the Lake District, and Dartmoor. From amazing historic landmarks to exquisite restaurants, there’s so much to experience in the UK, and holiday cottages are a great choice if you want accommodation that offers quality and comfort while giving you the freedom to holiday on your own terms.

Picture a cottage and you’re perhaps thinking of a cosy little idyll, maybe a traditional terrace or former miner’s dwelling. These holiday cottages are great for year-round breaks, and are uniquely British. There are many kinds of UK holiday cottages available, including spacious modern lodges, pet-friendly barn conversions and even holiday cottages boasting their own hot tub or swimming pool – and yes they are normally heated!

What to do on your UK holiday cottage holiday

No matter where you travel to across the length and breadth of Britain, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable getaway. Head to the southern tip of the country and you’ll find some world-class beaches and a temperate climate. Cornwall boasts some exquisite strips of sand and surfing spots such as at Fistral Beach, or you head a little upwards to North Devon and discover one of the best sandy beaches in Europe, the stunning Woolacombe Beach.

Great beaches aren’t unique to Britain, but what marks this island out as special is its long history and the sheer number of fascinating historic landmarks scattered throughout the land. There are great castles all over the place, well over two thousand in Scotland alone! Prime examples include Conwy Castle in Wales, Stirling Castle in Scotland and Bamburgh Castle, located on the coast of Northumberland.

Beyond beaches and castles there’s so much more going on, from world-class arts festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe to miles upon miles of hiking trails, cycle paths, and mountains to climb. And what better way to enjoy the country than with a stay in your very own little castle? Check out the selection of great UK holiday cottages, available for all tastes and budgets.

""We stepped into the unknown but discovered real treasure... to be revisited!" Driving through the automatic gates by the beautiful old stone house, one is greeted by a contrasting vision of modernity. Not only is the apartment contemporary and tastefully converted, it offers the perfect environment for a memorable stay. From the truly comfortable bed and luxurious bathroom, through the superbly equipped kitchen to the exquisite lounge/diner, it exudes impeccable taste and generous provision... illustrated by the welcoming basket filled with "goodies"! and the vase of daffodils. S41605 offers an axis to visit, in any direction, the delights of Dorset. Whether one seeks architectural gems, unforgettable views or historical monuments. One is spoilt by the variation in restaurants, small cafes and shops, enhanced by the charm of the locals. The Brinded Family"

"We stayed at Cotswold View for a weekend. The accommodation is a few rooms above the owner's garage, but is ideally located for Stratford upon Avon, Cheltenham & Gloucester and the main Cotswold villages. The photos have been very well taken as the kitchen and bathroom (that aren't pictured) are small and could maybe do with some modernisation. The heating system is electric wall heaters but the owners have also supplied separate fan heaters for an extra boost of heat if needed. The 2 z-beds for children are a little fragile according to the owner and have to be put downstairs in the lobby at the back of the owners garage (again not pictured). The property is easy enough to find on the outskirts of Willersey village."

"We stayed at the Cotswold view for a week. The owners are lovely, however, their accommodation is very close to the property. The land shown is in fact their garden. The photos have been very well taken as the accommodation is very small. The ground level is adjoined to the garage and there is a very strong smell of diesel that fills the accommodation. The heating system is not very powerful and so in cold periods is very cold. The kitchen which isn't pictured is tiny with a minute fridge so don't make the mistake that I made by taking a lot of food as there is no where to refrigerate it. The property is located by the industrial site although there are two nice little pubs near by. "

""We had a wonderful stay in S34110 - it really felt like a home from home. We tend to bring some of our own kitchen equipment with us, having found items lacking in accommodation booked in the past via other websites. We needn't have worried on this occasion as everything possible was provided, right down to a pair of binoculars for bird-spotting in the wonderful 'snug' on the landing. This cottage is an excellent base for exploring the local area and we had some wonderful days out at Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Weston-Super-Mare etc. Recommend the New Inn for food, on the A38 at Old Coach Road - great for kids with playground in the garden.""
