Holiday Cottages in the UK

The UK is a land of contrasts; head away from major cities like London, Birmingham, Liverpool and you’ll quickly reach the stunning natural landscapes that characterise places like Cornwall, the Lake District, and Dartmoor. From amazing historic landmarks to exquisite restaurants, there’s so much to experience in the UK, and holiday cottages are a great choice if you want accommodation that offers quality and comfort while giving you the freedom to holiday on your own terms.

Picture a cottage and you’re perhaps thinking of a cosy little idyll, maybe a traditional terrace or former miner’s dwelling. These holiday cottages are great for year-round breaks, and are uniquely British. There are many kinds of UK holiday cottages available, including spacious modern lodges, pet-friendly barn conversions and even holiday cottages boasting their own hot tub or swimming pool – and yes they are normally heated!

What to do on your UK holiday cottage holiday

No matter where you travel to across the length and breadth of Britain, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable getaway. Head to the southern tip of the country and you’ll find some world-class beaches and a temperate climate. Cornwall boasts some exquisite strips of sand and surfing spots such as at Fistral Beach, or you head a little upwards to North Devon and discover one of the best sandy beaches in Europe, the stunning Woolacombe Beach.

Great beaches aren’t unique to Britain, but what marks this island out as special is its long history and the sheer number of fascinating historic landmarks scattered throughout the land. There are great castles all over the place, well over two thousand in Scotland alone! Prime examples include Conwy Castle in Wales, Stirling Castle in Scotland and Bamburgh Castle, located on the coast of Northumberland.

Beyond beaches and castles there’s so much more going on, from world-class arts festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe to miles upon miles of hiking trails, cycle paths, and mountains to climb. And what better way to enjoy the country than with a stay in your very own little castle? Check out the selection of great UK holiday cottages, available for all tastes and budgets.

"The outside view of this bungalow is deceptive as once inside it did not disappoint. It was spotlessly clean on arrival with a very nice welcome pack, which much appreciated as we had a very long and tiring journey to get there. It is in a good location for easy access to all the great places to visit in Northumberland. There were a couple of details in the main folder which need to be updated which were about key collection and the workings of the shower, but once we'd settled in everything worked with all we needed for a good holiday. There was plenty of equipment and crockery so we didn't run out and the dishwasher was easy to use, which has sometimes been a problem in the past. All instruction manuals were available to assist apart from the workings of the shower, but we managed ok in the end without having to call anyone. The house has a lovely homely feel with very thoughtful, tasteful decor and as the weather wasn't wonderful it was great to come back to and spend time in. A place we would definitely return to. Thank you."

"Above average and the norm for a holiday experience. Peaceful and safe environment for both ourselves and our dogs we will certainly recommend to family and friends and may even break our rule of only visiting a place once and visit again in years to come. It was our first visit to the North east and we were surprised by the open and friendliness of the area. My one concern about the property was that the microwave being so far away from the kitchen in the utility room could pose a problem carrying hot plates etc back to the kitchen. I personally feel it would be best placed by the kitchen window where the bread bin is to avoid accidents. Overall a very enjoyable holiday."

"S13550 is a compact but comfortable base for two people attached to the owners' house in a quiet residential street in Birchington within walking distance of the seafront and a small supermarket although the main shopping street is a little further away. It is well equipped, modern and clean. A small part of the owners'garden has been sectioned off for users of the cottage. It is a good base for exploring northern Kent. We had trouble connecting to the wifi initially but once connected in the owners' house we had no further trouble and the signal was strong. The owners are very nice and helpful."

"Fantastic place to stay, very clean, spacious, every amenity from teaspoons to games for all, towels and bedding excellent, the beds are so comfy we even took note of make and went out and bought one. it is our second booking, we love it so much already booked for Christmas 2016. 2 pubs serving good food in village, small shop and bistro. The beach is excellent as are all surrounding beaches. We just love beadnell and S14493 just waiting to win lottery to buy it! Even took grandson (6) to Portugal but when asked if he would like to go again - no he only wants to go to beadnell and S14493!"

"We found S13550 to be very clean and comfortable. As a responsible dog owner though I did find it very disappointing that the owners' dogs were allowed to foul in the garden (the owners' garden, which was overlooked by the cottage's kitchen and living area) and it was not cleaned up the whole week we were there. Another disappointing thing as far as I was concerned was the fact it is advertised as having a washing machine. I find that very convenient on holiday, however, it does not make it clear you have to ask the owners to use theirs! A good base however for touring the area."
