What our customers say about their holidays

    • Lynn - Verified booking

We loved this little cottage and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

We stayed during the last week of October 2023. The weather wasn't the best but we did what you do in Wales and donned our waterproof gear so we had a brilliant week! The cottage is situated in Old Colwyn, uphill from the main road and the hustle and bustle. There is a private parking space at the back for one car and entrance is really via the conservatory, which is where the key safe is, so nice and private and away from the main road (which is extremely quiet!). There is a CoOp and a Lidl somewhere in Old Colwyn, and there is a Morrisons in Colwyn Bay (a 5 minute drive along Abergele Rd) but we bought what we needed each day when we were out and about. There is a restaurant/pub a stone's throw across the road from the cottage called The White Lion. It seems very popular and has good reviews. We didn't have time to go as we were out every day but we wished we had. It's closed on Mondays (just to bear in mind). The owners live in the adjoining cottage. Jane came to introduce herself to us at around teatime in the first day and she was so lovely and welcoming. In arrival, there was a pint of milk in the fridge which we really appreciated so we could just have a cup of tea before heading back out to buy some food to eat that night. In fact, we headed to Colwyn Bay to go to a chip shop that I knew and have used before over the years (I wouldn't recommend Old Colwyn at all by the way). The cottage itself was just wonderful. It was very cold on a couple of the days but the owners had the radiators set to come on so the main part of the building was warm. The kitchen is well fitted and modern with extremely good quality equipment. This is mainly what I noticed and appreciated - in every room, everything is good quality. You know that the owners didn't just buy a holiday cottage and fill it with car boot sea themed tat as you do find in some cottages (and we've stayed in a LOT). Bedding, duvets, plates - just everything felt carefully chosen, even the selection of DVDs. We all really appreciated everything there. There were even a pair of hair straighteners in the double bedroom .. If I had to think if something that the cottage needed, I would only suggest a door wedge/stop to keep the bathroom door open and some tupperware for the kitchen to fridge up your leftovers. I wish the cottage could be replicated in the other areas we like to stay in (we stay in North Wales at least three times a year). A perfect holiday cottage! I would love to return

We had a wonderful two weeks at the Old Post Office in Llanelian (Old Colwyn).

Jane was a wonderful host and kept in contact with us throughout our stay. The weather was mixed (as it often is in Wales) but the cottage was very comfy and homely especially during those days you didn't fancy venturing out. The cottage had everything provided that you should ever need. The bedrooms and bathrooms are compact accessed by a very narrow staircase but this is an 1820s cottage so this is to be expected. The cottage is a great base for different areas/activities - Liverpool is only just over an hour away, Snowdonia less than an hour and Anglesey is about 40 mins, 30 mins to the beaches of Rhyl and Prestatyn. Llandudno is also worth a visit at about 20 mins (a ride up the Great Orme in the tram is definitely worth doing). Old Colwyn (5 mins), Colwyn Bay (10 mins) etc all have wonderfully sandy beaches and parking is never an issue. Loads of castles around the area as well. All in all a great place to spend your holiday.

We stayed at Ysgubor Wen for 5 nights and it was the perfect family getaway. We were so pleased to find such a lovely cottage, so pretty and cosy and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We were travelling with two young children so the provision of a stair gate and travel cot was a huge help, and everything had been thought of in the kitchen which made a big difference to us. The milk in the fridge and bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival was also very much appreciated! We enjoyed sitting outside with a drink with wonderful views in the evenings. It was also very helpful to be provided with lots of info on nearby places to visit and a handy list of the nearest shops/pubs/takeaways, every detail had been thought of. Ysgubor Wen was a great base to explore the beautiful Snowdonia and we hope to be back one day. Thank you Jacqui and Andrew for such a lovely stay!

      This property was lovely.

In a quiet village overlooking old Colwyn. There is one pub The White Lion, don't be put off by sticky tables and worn carpet in the older section food I'd delicious and plentiful, the hosts are characters! The property itself has a happy history and is equipped and decorated to a high standard. There is a huge element of vintage in the property. The selling point of this cottage are the hosts Jane and Jonathan, who live next door. The welcome to the property is warm, friendly and full of information. There are no books of information everything is relayed by Jane personally. The cottage is very comfortable, cosy and warm. A car is essential. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners. Take the time to sit and talk to Jane she is a walking history lesson of the village and it's community. Use the lovely bakery in old Colwyn, lovely cakes, bread and savouries.

A beautiful little cottage with everything you need for a restful, comfortable stay.

Host rang before we travelled to check our arrival details and discuss our stay so that we could ask any questions and was on hand for our arrival, with information and maps of the area with recommendations for places to go during our stay. There were also lots of information leaflets to browse through. It has a well equipped kitchen and option for eating out on the terrace or in the sunny dining room at the rear of the property. Parking for two cars is available. Beds were clean and very comfortable. We took our dog, and although there is no garden there is a large field to run the dogs in just round the corner. There is a pub opposite the property but it was being refurbished while we were there I think, so not open a lot. You will need a car to get to town which is only five mins or so away. We had a fab relaxing stay in this quaint little place. Thank you.
