What our customers say about their holidays

    • Paul - Verified booking

We booked the same cottage that we rented last year.

It’s very compact but it does the job for the week and the location is convenient and quiet. Last year after our stay we were asked to write a review - and generally I gave a good overall rating. I did however give the owner a private snagging list of things we thought would be helpful for them to know and which would hopefully make other guests have a better experience. Little things like the knobs on the inside of the bathroom door were pulling off and the toilet roll holder on the wall was very loose and near to falling off. There was no veg peeler in the kitchen drawer and no small oven trays to cook food on in the oven so we had to use the huge grill pan instead. The fridge is a larder fridge with no freezer compartment. The toaster was also faulty with the heating elements only working on 3 sides. Returning to the same property this year we found the issues in the bathroom have been addressed however, we were disappointed to find that the kitchenette is exactly as it was. Fortunately we brought with us our own utensils and disposable metal trays. There were no oven gloves available and the washing up liquid was watered down. After our visit last year the owners of the property probably thought they’d never see us again and probably thought the missing/faulty items in the kitchenette were too minor to bother with. I’m of a different opinion and feel strongly enough to put my views into my public review. Additionally the property is quite dusty this visit and overall looks less well cared for. The yard outside is a jungle of weeds and very uninviting and one of the neighbours was very unwelcoming and told us we shouldn’t be parking on the cobbles. Our decision is that we won’t be returning to this particular property again.

The cottage was lovely and the surroundings were perfect for short walks and bike rides, straight out of the door.

The kitchen was very well-equipped and the photos do not lie - the place is beautifully decorated, fitted out with good quality furniture, plenty of kitchen storage, everything worked as it should, and there was plenty of space for our family of five to relax. The ensuite shower room was very handy every day! Rachel was easy to contact for a daft thing (missing tea towels and an oven glove) which she remedied within minutes of us asking, and she was around the farm to helpfully answer some questions about the local area. Even though it was literally next door to the farmhouse we were almost unaware of being near it, with the parking space, the "front" door and rear garden being set away from it, so we felt it was private and we had the place to ourselves. The hot tub was a winner with the children and it was lovely to be able to sit in it and look across the valley, seeing nothing but hills, sheep, cows and couple of farmhouses on the other side of the reservoir. There is a slight inescapable niggle that you have to go out the door, across the stone pavers and around the corner to the rear of the property in your swimwear to get in it, but much of a problem. It's a VERY old building, nicely restored and very comfortable - I won't complain that they haven't knocked through the chimney wall to put a patio door in! . There is a storage building for bikes - it is very simple to get out and do a couple of miles circuit around the reservoir, across the dam, or go a bit further for some hill climbs, which made a 6-miler seem much further! Under-floor heating was nice (though it was warm so could not report it's efficiency if it was winter) Very happy with the place, and would recommend it.

This was our first proper winter and Christmas Break away from Kent.

And I am delighted to report that our stay at NI Cottage was wonderful. And we would stay again. For our needs it was perfect. Despite howling winds and snow dusting the surrounding countryside. We stayed effortlessly warm and snug in the cosy enclave of this cottage. The walls being constructed of stone and 2 feet thick and double glazing all around. You could not hear the howling wind. All facilities for a home from home experience were in place, cosy and characterful in this listed property. The location is perfectly placed in the hills outside of the picturesque villages of Haworth (15 min walk) and Oxenhope. With excellent choices of watering holes and restaurants. And within earshot and view of the local Heritage Steam Railway. Which was very busy with Elf and Santa Express excursions. To hear the iconic sounds and sights of a Steam Train chugging and puffing it's way through the valley was a delightful backdrop to the peace and quiet of this location during our stay! We cannot recommend this location enough. It suited us as we like to explore and walk, and partake of the local offerings of real ale and good local food. We cannot recommend the Steam Packet Brewery in Haworth enough. To be able to then retreat to the peace and quiet of the cottage was great. The owners lived on site, next door in an enviable traditional stone historic farmhouse and were on hand to check in with us to see if everything was OK. If you are the type of people who are looking for a quiet cosy retreat. Are happy keeping your own company and don't need all the bells and whistles of a busy resort location on your doorstep. Then this is the place for you.

Our family get together at this beautiful venue was very Special!

Not only were we meeting up to celebrate our Mother/Grandma/&Great Grandmas' Birthday, but we were getting together to be with our little 'new additions' to family, whom i had only seen once, due to Lockdown. An exciting time had by all of us! The property was FABULOUS! Everything we could ever need for a relaxing holiday, which we all had throughout our stay! The house was a delight, exceptional care to detail, fresh bedding & towels, spotlessly clean throughout and a welcome pack of bread&butter, tea&coffee&milk, as well as a Lovely suprise bottle of Prosecco! We enjoyed every minute of our stay, the beautiful countryside, farm animals surrounding the fields, and relaxing evenings watching the sun go down and moon rise in the sky... all from the warm, relaxing bubbles in the Hot tub! Our little 'Adventurers', aged 7 & almost 2 enjoyed the run around the lovely lawned garden and visits to watch cows, sheep, chickens and horses really tired them on an evening, so were ready to relax in Hot Tub before bed and a good sleep, refreshed next day! Thankyou for making our family break special, we will definately be staying here again soon!

We had a lovely weekend at the cottage, such a wonderful space with gorgeous views.

So much to do in the area and explore, but equally could have just sat in front of the fire all day enjoying the landscapes. We were met by a lovely fresh loaf, butter and bottle on arrival too which was a nice touch. Beds very comfortable. The only two things to mention for future consideration are that the hot tub was not hot enough to use on the first night. We arrived at 3pm and by 5/6pm it was still not to temperature. Host was very apologetic and not much that could be done. Maybe just re-fill earlier if possible I guess. The second thing was that the wall in the garden is very low. Low enough for dogs to jump and clear into the field with sheep. One dog was fine with this, but the other dog needed to be on a long line to avoid getting near the livestock. You may want to consider taking a long line if booking. None of the two points above made a difference to the break, just points to consider. We had a great time and would certainly consider returning. Thanks for a lovely stay.
