About this property

Surrounded by the beautiful hills and moors of the Upper Calder Valley, Little Hollin Hey is an attractive stone-built cottage located on a working farm 2 miles from the quirky town of Hebden Bridge and just 5 minutes’ drive from the village amenities of Mytholmroyd.

The terraced cottage oozes character through its exposed stone and original beams, and provides the perfect escape for exploring all that this part of Yorkshire has to offer.

Haworth, home to the Bronte family museum and Worth Valley steam railway, is a 30 minute drive away. And both Skipton, the Gateway to the Dales with its medieval castle and market days, and Bolton Abbey are also within easy striking distance by car. And if Yorkshire doesn’t have enough to offer, in the opposite direction over Blackstone Edge, into Lancashire at the foot of the Pennines you’ll find Hollingsworth Lake with a nature reserve and activity centre.

Closer to home, you can visit the resting place of poet Sylvia Plath at St Thomas’ Church in Heptonstall or hike across Midgley Moor - both visible from the cottage across the wooded valley.

The views from Little Hollin Hey are indeed stunning. Not surprising, given its lovely hillside location. The surrounding countryside is best experienced from the private patio or al fresco eating area where there’s a BBQ and a shared lawn. And you’re not reliant on good weather to enjoy the views as a fire pit makes outdoor entertainment possible all year round.

Headings inside the cottage, you’ll find a charming holiday home designed to cater for all your needs. Relax on the plush grey sofa or put your feet up and sink into the comfy recliner chair and cosy up around the wood burning stove and Smart TV.

The fully-fitted modern dining kitchen has all the essential appliances you’d expect including washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and a solid oak dining table.

Climb the staircase to the first floor where there’s a stylish shower room and a loo with a view. The spacious walk-in shower is perfect for rejuvenating after a hike over the Pennines or cycling up England’s longest continual uphill gradient, which is close to the cottage at Cragg Vale and forms part of the Tour De Yorkshire route.

Cross the bright and airy landing and you’ll find a quiet reading area, perfect for unwinding or planning your next day’s adventures.

There’s also a beautifully decorated bedroom on the first floor with a 4'6 double bed and classic oak furniture.

A further bedroom can be found on the second floor with a roomy king-size bed that can be arranged into two singles to create a flexible twin bedroom on request.

While the characterful accommodation at Little Hollin Hey provides a real home from home, it’s the cottage’s setting that is its greatest attraction. The stunning scenery, the peace and quiet of a truly rural location, but near to the shops of Mytholmroyd for all the essentials and

good pubs like the Shoulder of Mutton if you fancy a quick pint or the Hinchliffe Arms if you want to dine out.

Immediately you step out of the cottage you are in great walking and cycling country. Close by is the Cragg Vale Coiners Walk, named after an infamous local 18th century criminal gang. Other nearby beauty spots include the National Trust’s Hardcastle Crags, the curious rock formations of The Bridestones and Stoodley Pike monument which dominates the moors above the Calder Valley.

For a gentler stroll, follow the Rochdale Canal towpath from Mytholmroyd to Hebden Bridge to discover a little piece of bohemia, with its independent cafes, restaurants and shops, and traditional cinema.

Alternatively, take the train from Mytholmroyd to the historic minster town of Halifax, 9 miles away. The setting for popular British TV shows like Happy Valley and Gentleman Jack, Halifax’s must-see attraction is The Piece Hall – a unique survivor of the Yorkshire woollen industry and one of Britain’s most outstanding Georgian buildings. As well as discovering its history and admiring the beautiful architecture, there are restaurants, a gin bar, a theatre and shops for you to explore. Eureka! The National Children’s Museum with it’s interactive exhibits is another great place for families to play and spend the day.

Come to Little Hollin Hey – it’s the perfect rural base to enjoy a very varied holiday in a beautiful part of Yorkshire.

Hidden deep within the magnificent Upper Calder Valley, you will find the picture-perfect town of Mytholmroyd. Sitting peacefully on the beautiful River Calder, this charming community provides a superb base for a relaxing countryside retreat to West Yorkshire. Be spoilt for choice with a wide selection of pubs, bars and restaurants for an evening of wining and dining, or pick up some fresh ingredients from the local supermarket if planning a quiet night indoors. With luscious green hillside, striking historical landmarks and enchanting woodlands surrounding the area, there is something for everyone to enjoy here.

It has amazing views over the surrounding valleys and hills. Mary, the owner, is very welcoming and helpful, providing useful advice on places to visit before we arrived. We were greeted with a really nice hamper including wine, tea and coffee, bread, biscuits and jams. It was a nice start to our holiday!

The cottage is very comfortable and the extensive garden is a real bonus for children. The owner is really nice and happy to provide information on the locality.
