What our customers say about their holidays

    • Susan - Verified booking

Liked the property overall, the bed was very comfortable & loved the open fire, but there were issues with facilities.

The heating was not on on arrival, three radiators switched off & we had to figure out how it worked to heat the house up. The bathroom was always freezing with the heated towel rail working every now and again. We did eventually learn how to turn it on but were always out before it heated up. Cooking facilities were poor. The cooker hood needs a good clean and bulbs replacing. The roasting tin and baking sheet were rusty and unusable, there are only two saucepans with lids and three small milk pans - why is a proper set not provided? Couldn't turn the oven on & had to phone up for instructions as there were none. Despite having three welcome folders there were no instructions for any appliances. The washing machine is not level, rocks on two feet & had to be wedged up with a book to stop it roaming around the kitchen. Had to buy an airer to hang clothes to dry. Had to buy a new plug for the kitchen sink and had to improvise a plug for the bathroom sink. Had to buy a set of allen keys to tighten up the table legs to stop it wobbling around (& potentially collapsing). The weather was poor with conditions outside very muddy. No mop was provided so, unfortunately, we couldn't clean the floors properly before we left. Towels provided are tiny & only just fitted round our waists. If we'd known would have brought our own. We enjoyed our stay overall, we don't usually let poor facilities dampen our enjoyment, but are very disappointed to have again paid a high price for a UK holiday property that fell short. The location is lovely but is definitely not worth the money we paid.

Unfortunately I would not recommend staying here. We have stayed in Southwold many times over the years and often go back to the same cottage a few times befor trying a new one. Unfortunately this is not 4 star as advertised and it needs a review of the rating. Extremely unfortunately beds and sofas!!! Damp on the walls and ceiling. Probably best for a couple, definitely not a family of four which is advertised. The bedroom with the double bed in you can’t event get changed in because of the slopped ceiling. I was getting dressed on the landing. The only good thing about this cottage is the location. Close to the sea and very central.

Lovely little cottage in a perfect part of town. A minutes walk from the beach and a sea view from the bedroom. Unfortunately in some areas it is quite tired. In particular the bathroom and kitchen have stained sinks and the kitchen grouting desperately needs a deep clean or replacing. Other areas such as the windows and sofa are just tired and the duvet is three small ones zipped together rather than a single king size one. This was really very uncomfortable as the zips are thick and pretty rigid. Id love to stay here again but only after the place has a deep clean.

I really enjoyed my holiday in 'The Nest'. It's as nice as any I've stayed in Southwold over the years . Cosy and compact, in a great position with a lovely views from the living room and bedroom. Close to the shops but quiet, the sea right on your door step, and a few minutes walk along the lovely seafront to the pier. Didn't use the car once during my stay. Will book again.

Generally satisfied with our property however the mould in the bathroom is not really acceptable given the money we paid. We also found the kitchen utensils, cutterly, plates etc. had not been cleaned and were put away dirty. While we may use Original Cottages again as we have had good experiences in the past we will not be staying in this property again.
