Enjoy a break by the sea with Plymouth holiday cottages

Discover stunning sea views and cosmopolitan living when you escape to the historic city of Plymouth. The attractive port city in South Devon is jam-packed with attractions, spectacular beaches, pretty cobbled streets, and a rich maritime history.

From the outstanding beauty of Plymouth Hoe and the brilliant National Marine Aquarium to the idyllic old port and learning about the pilgrims, you'll never be short of things to do in Plymouth.

To see everything the city has to offer in comfort and style, stay in one of our beautiful Plymouth holiday cottages. Our hand-picked selection features cute cabins overlooking the water, ancient stone cottages brimming with character, and everything in between.

Whether you're looking for a cottage for a cosy weekend break, or a spacious property for a longer staycation, at Snaptrip, we'll help you find your perfect holiday pad.

Why choose a Plymouth weekend break or staycation?

Located on the south coast of Devon, Plymouth is a vibrant city with a fascinating history. Home to England's biggest naval bases and seaports, Plymouth is renowned for its role in the defeat of the Spanish Armada, its links to the Napoleonic Wars, and Darwin's sailing around the world.

Its naval base is commemorated at the Mayflower Steps, where the pilgrims are thought to have set sail across the Atlantic for the New World. While the steps no longer exist, the site where the pilgrims boarded the Mayflower is marked with both Union Jack and Stars and Stripes.

From this point, you can join the Mayflower Trail, which transports you back in time to 1620, discovering what Plymouth's Barbican area was like in the 17th century.

To discover more about Plymouth's past, head to The Box, a cultural destination spread across three buildings. You'll find a museum, art gallery, and exhibition spaces. The Museum and Art Gallery focuses on the city's relationship with the sea, historic voyages that began in Plymouth, and natural history specimens.

Plymouth Hoe, also known as the Hoe, is the centre of the city, nestled high above the harbour, this must-see park offers incredible views of the city and its surrounding areas. As you make your way around the park, you'll discover the Armada Monument and the Naval War Memorial. If you fancy cooling down, take a dip in the Tinside Lido, a beautiful Art Deco outdoor swimming pool.

The city's waterfront is spectacular. It's been given the title of Britain's Ocean City, and there are so many opportunities to get out on the water. Try your hand at sailing, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, or scuba diving, or just enjoy a gentle paddle in the sparkling sea.

Plymouth is also home to the UK's largest aquarium. National Marine Aquarium boasts over 4,000 creatures, from the inhabitants of the Plymouth Sound to the tropical waters of Australia.

There are countless events and festivals held in Plymouth throughout the year, so no matter when you come, you'll always find something on. From the Ocean Festival and Pirates Weekend to Flavour Fest and the Seafood Carnival, Plymouth is a city filled with fantastic events to get stuck into.

For a great night out, head to Royal William Yard, a Grade 1 listed ex-naval victualling yard. This beautiful spot hosts a variety of popular restaurants, al-fresco dining spots, bars, pop-up shops, galleries, and excellent events.

With so much to see and do in Plymouth, you'll only wish your trip could last longer.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Emma - Verified booking

The house was lovely, very clean and well appointed.

Beds were comfortable and plenty of room for the 8 of us, including plenty of storage space which can often be lacking in holiday homes. We were especially pleased with the kitchen which had everything you would need and more. The second fridge was particularly helpful as we were a large group. We were able to park right outside most of the time which was really helpful. I have only give 3 out of 4 for comfort because the house was very hot! We turned the storage heaters down to the lowest settings and it was still boiling. We couldn't work out how to turn off the heated towel rails which seemed to be on 24 hours a day. Good to know that the house would be warm in the winter, but it was a bit much for us in spring and must be costing you a fortune! Also there were two stair gates provided but neither fitted on the stairs, so were pretty useless. Luckily our children were old enough to be sensible but could be a big problem for crawling babies. We loved the location close to Noss Mayo. It was lovely and quiet but not far to drive to bigger towns and Plymouth. We visited some lovely beaches and appreciated the folder with guidance on what to expect locally. Our favourite beach was Wembury for rock pools and we also had a great ice cream at Surfing Cow which is very local. We didn't get much use from the facilities on site as we were out and about a lot, but we briefly visited the tennis court and games room which were in great shape and nice to have the option.

We arrived at the property on Fri 9 October 2020 for a girls weekend and we were immediately impressed with not only our property but the surrounding areas!

Very picturesque! The weather was amazing too and we could see for miles! We soon settled in for the night and made ourselves comfortable! Beds were really comfy and it was nice to have the kitchen/dining area on a different level. We went for a hike on the Sat to Stoke Beach, which was stunning as was the weather that day and we out for hours! Some of us also ventured to the beach next to it which looked like something out of the Mediterranean! Lots of photo opportunities too! We were booked in on the Sat evening for dinner at the Ship Inn, which did not disappoint! Both the food in the Restaurant and the surrounding area was stunning! I would definitely recommend this property and the Ship Inn is the place to go! The food and service were first class. All in all a fabulous stay. Only downside was the bottom oven wasn't working properly and we had to make do with the grill.

Lovely place, thank you for letting us stay there!

Fantastic place to stay with great facilities. Quiet out of season. Lovely nature walks and small villages everywhere. Saw Roe deer two days in a row in a field between Holbeton and A379. Beautiful narrow lanes across the whole area which required some artistic driving of a large car (could be a nightmare in peak season or bank holidays I'd imagine!) The permanent retractable stair gate from the lounge was a great subtle feature, not sure if they could be on all points of the stairs (but we did note there were removable stair gates in the cupboard that could be fitted). There are a lot of stairs at the property, but two bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor too. Overbeck garden (Salcombe) and Wembury beach were to be recommended but having National Trust membership will save you a lot of money in entry and parking fees. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable week!

Although we did have a nice week at eventide it was adequate for our stay there were a few things which would’ve made the stay more enjoyable.

Overall it was clean and the bathroom was nice. The cooking facilities were very difficult to understand with very limited instructions to anything. In fact we gave up with oven and hob after just about understanding the microwave! The tv was quite an issue as only internet viewing unless you down loaded apps! Made watching very difficult. And on a wet February week we felt some tv was needed. The hot water also In the kitchen and bathroom sink stopped working half way through week too. And the beds had to be the hardest I’ve ever slept on! But maybe some people like them like that. Definitely if yiu are tall or not very mobile you will find this place challenging. And the key to the front door was bent too. This place could be so much nicer with just a bit more thought to some small things.

We had a fantastic 10 days staying at the cottage to celebrate a significant birthday and return to enjoy the beauty of south Devon and the South Hams.

There were initially four of us plus hound, but we rose to eight for the second weekend. The property is very well equipped indeed, and the master bedroom and dining/lounge especially good. Just watch out for the beams in the master bedroom if you are tall! The agents and owners are very responsive. A bulb was replaced quickly and attention to some minor heating issues. The tennis court is great, as it the table tennis room. The location is superb. A short walk to the South West Coast Path (stunning views along the circular route from Stoke Bay to Noss Mayo) and the beautiful villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers. Plenty of great cycling too (no shortage of hills to keep you fit). Sadly not enough time to go horse riding. We need to return. There is so much to explore and enjoy!
