Across the water, the village of Newton Ferrers, which has a local butcher, chemist, Post Office and general grocery store, may be reached on foot via causeways at low tide. A seasonal ferry also operates between Noss Mayo, Newton Ferrers and the SW coastal path to Wembury. The surrounding South Hams area is well known for its award-winning, sandy beaches and also for the breath-taking beauty of the Dartmoor National Park.
