"we had a really nice stay at The Rookery - definitely would recommend"

"The Rookery is a lovely period cottage in an attractive south Peak District village, set amongst rolling hills which is a fantastic base for exploring. Tissington is a straightforward walk (about an hour or just over, although there are a couple of short, sharp hills), and Dovedale is a short drive. Chatsworth, Ilam Hall and Haddon Hall are all within easy reach. The cottage has everything that you could want, including a fully equipped kitchen (with a low sink), an enormous dining table and comfy armchairs. Some families may find the single shower limiting, but we didn't (and we were 5 adults). The hot water was never a problem, either - just hit the boost button. It got slightly cooler indoors in the evenings, because of the thick stone walls, but even so we didn't feel the need to light the two wood burning fires. If we had done, though, there was plenty of firewood stored in the attached shed.A nice touch is that the cottage is still owned by around 16 or so descendants of the original owners, and the house has lots of family photos and memorabilia around. They owners also visit regularly, and you can read their love of the house in the notes that they leave in the visitors book. There were also a large number of board games provided. We visited with a dog, and the cottage is well catered for animals. They ask that they sleep in the kitchen at night, and there is a stair gate to stop animals going upstairs (or children falling downstairs). Our dog was more than happy there. There are plenty of dog waste bins in the village, and we had several lovely walks from the cottage. Be warned, though, if you have a larger dog (ours is collie sized) as the area is full of squeeze stiles and some routes required a lot of lifting over walls because she couldn't fit through. The Limestone Way was particularly bad for that, but there are plenty of other routes which are absolutely fine.We needed to call the management company when we first arrived because the internet wasn't working and one of us, unfortunately, needed to do a lot of work while we were there. The staff there were excellent, though, and Mike put himself out significantly to have us back up and running that first evening.Mobile phone reception inside the cottage is very poor to non-existent. You will need to stand outside to make calls (and even then it can come and go). There is parking for two cars at the property (Audi A4 estate and Fiesta just about fitted on together) which is the area behind the white gate to the right of the property. The road there is too narrow for other parking, but just around the corner there is space where the road opens out quite a lot and there was plenty of space to leave additional vehicles for visitors. The village boasts a small village shop. This is actually located inside the pub and keeps pub hours. All in all we had a lovely relaxing stay in The Rookery, which is a charming cottage, and we would happily stay there again."

"Location is excellent and Derbyshire is a super place to spent time walking and relaxing. We did find the house very dated. Whilst we were aware it had stone floors downstairs, we didn't think they would be quite as basic and in such poor order. Again we knew the building was old and there were some low doorways but there are no less than 9 points within the house where you can easily bang your head, and I am only 5'10"."

"A comfortable and well equipped cottage. The village is pleasant and people welcoming.Plenty of places round and about to visit for those who can no longer go hiking. Some safety concerns:-Perhaps some padding on the beam into the kitchen would save sore heads?! The steep slope up to the clothes drier - perhaps it could be sited lower down? One of us slipped on the step outside the padlocked door - one of the stones wobbled!"

"The cottage was very quaint, as was the village. Great local village pub with lovely food.Everything you would need is provided for at the cottage. You would struggle with 7 adult sin this cottage, even though it can sleep 7. Lovely decor. It does have very low beams. So beware. The grass at the front and back is in serious need of a cut. This is the only thing that disappointed us, as I think the front and back gardens could be lovely and it would have been nice to sit at the top of the steps in the rear garden on a morning as the sun comes up. It was a lovely spot. All in all, lovely, great and I would return"

"We had a wonderful holiday here .Home from home everything you need in the kitchen, even extra dog bowls for dogs if needed. Even through we was only 4 adults it sleeps 7 you would not be able to all Sit in the lounge at the same time as only a 2 seater settee and 2 chairs and no room to put any more chairs in as it is a cottage but this is not a Criticism but if 7 people go they need to know .There was 7 chairs around the dining table in the dining room next door .will certainly return. lovely cottage, lovely village and We loved seeing the family photos ,book etc brilliant."

"Beautiful cottage, clean and well equipped. Lovely garden for children, does have some stone steps. Wonderful location in a beautiful village with a pub, serving food, which also has a small shop. Lovely park for the children in the village. Ideal location to explore Derbyshire. The cottage does have very low doorways and ceilings in parts which is to be expected for a cottage!! We had a lovely stay. Some issues in the bathroom, however the owners were very quick to rectify these. We had a lovely stay. Many thanks."

"We’ve had a wonderful stay at the The Rookery located in a beautiful, quiet Parwich village. Perfect for 5-6 people, clean and cosy with comfortable beds and fully equipped kitchen. The only basic things that were missing were salt and pepper. We were getting fresh eggs from the neighbours in the morning. What a bliss! Loved it, highly recommended!Ps. 10am check out is too early."
