Snaptrip says

Camellia Cottage in Crook is highly praised for its cleanliness, well-equipped kitchen, and tasteful decoration. Guests appreciate the modern bathroom, cosy atmosphere, and the property's suitability for dogs. The location is ideal for walks and local pub dining. Some concerns include a steep spiral staircase and late check-in times. The cottage's charm and amenities make it a recommended stay for those visiting the Lake District.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage consistently receives high marks for cleanliness, with guests noting it as clean, fresh, and well-maintained. One mention of dirty kitchen surfaces and ants, but this appears to be an isolated incident.

The location is frequently described as ideal, quiet, and perfect for exploring the Lake District, with easy access to local attractions and walks. The proximity to a pub is also a plus. However, one guest felt the location was misrepresented in terms of distance from Windermere.

Comfort is highlighted with mentions of cosy beds and a warm atmosphere. However, some guests found the double bed hard and the metal spiral staircase uncomfortable for their feet, slightly lowering the score.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and modern bathroom. However, some guests reported minor maintenance issues such as broken items and a lack of kindling for the fire, suggesting room for improvement.

While many guests appreciate the amenities and decorative touches, there are no specific mentions of gifts or special thoughtful gestures that would warrant a score in this category.

About this property

Set in the quiet hamlet of Crook just a short drive from the shores of Lake Windermere and within relatively easy reach of the Central Lakes, the Cottage is a great location to relax or get active. Playing golf? A 9-hole course is available in the village and two 18-hole courses are nearby including the renowned Windermere Golf Club. You can also fish, cycle or simply walk from the door.

This is a lovely cottage that is bright and airy, well-appointed and a real treat. The open plan living space is focused around the dual aspect log burning stove, with comfy sofas and TV and on the other side of the wood-burner is the dining area. The modern kitchen has all the amenities required, and a spiral staircase that leads to the bedrooms, dressing room and bathroom on the first floor. You can relax in the delightful courtyard overlooked by the pretty cottage garden. To the front of the cottage and across the quiet lane the view is of the neighbouring orchard and the meadows beyond.

The village of Crook is on the edge of the Lyth Valley not far from Kendal and Windermere. The village of Staveley is a ten-minute drive away and there you will find a good range of shops and places to eat and gateway to the Kentmere Horseshoe and tarn. The Lyth Valley lies behind Cartmel Fell to the east of Lake Windermere and is known for its serene orchard landscapes, in particular damsons. There are a number of widely acclaimed Lake District gastropubs including The Punchbowl at Crosthwaite, The Black Labrador at Underbarrow, The Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank and Hare and Hounds at Levens. The unspoilt medieval village of Cartmel on the fringe of the Lake District National Park - a twenty-minute drive from Camellia Cottage. A foodie’s paradise, with inns, shops and the internationally acclaimed Michelin Star restaurant, L'Enclume. There is also Cartmel Racecourse. Ten minutes west of the cottage the bustling village of Bowness sits on the shores of Lake Windermere and again offers a wealth of places to eat and drink, a great selection of shops and visitor attractions for all the family.

The pretty hamlet of Crook is situated in beautiful Lakeland countryside and offers excellent access to the heart of the Lake District National Park. There are two hotels/pubs in Crook itself and a wide variety of super walks on the surrounding fells. Less than six miles from Lake Windermere - England's longest lake - and a similar distance from all of the amenities of Kendal, Cumbria's historic market town.

Heat in the bathroom and a light at the back door.

It was exactly as described and perfect for our needs. We cooked a few meals in and also ate at the local pub, the Sun Inn (walking distance, definitely recommend)- kitchen was well equipped, plenty of space in the fridge, appliances good. We had plenty of hot water and were toasty warm. Bathroom fabulous. All very comfortable throughout but as explained this is not suitable for someone with limited mobility due to spiral staircase and 2 different levels on the ground floor. We didn't need to use the beautiful log burner as the weather was reasonably kind. Location is fabulous if you want to be away from crowds but close enough to get into the main touristy spots. We got to Langdales for our usual walking favourites very easily but roads were quiet due to term time. Staveley is about 10 minutes away for closest convenience store, chemist etc. Ulverston is the other way and about 20 minutes or so for bigger shops such as Booths. We visited new places for the first time such as the Kentmere Valley- what a stunner. We will return to this cottage and that is a first for us- perfect for everything we like.

And a two seater sofa not big enough for guests. The metal staircase not very safe and not suitable for disabled. Location was not 10 minutes from Windermere. Parking insufficient!
