Slate steps lead into the property and you can relax in front of a cosy fire and Smart TV in the lounge. A well equipped kitchen is the perfect place to prepare romantic meals, which can be enjoyed at the breakfast bar. The comfortable king size bedroom is complemented with a delightful en-suite shower room and the property has a secure storage space for outdoor gear. A cot and high chair can also be provided on request.
Situated in Outgate, Barn End is perfectly located for a range of stunning walks. Stroll to the shores of Lake Windermere or enjoy the popular Tarn Howes loop. Just a short walk from the property, you’ll find the Outgate Inn and a short drive brings you to the famous Drunken Duck Inn where delicious evening meals and local ale are served.
For memorable day trips, the pretty village of Hawkshead is a five minute drive in one direction and the vibrant village of Ambleside is a five minute drive in the other.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Small but big enough for our needs. Bed was comfortable so has obviously been changed after comments in previous reviews so thank you. A small coffee table would be useful to put your drinks on as itâs either floor or windowsill. The biggest issue was the front door, as it is swollen and is hard to shut and the handle is loose, but itâs an easy fix. The windows are only single glazed so the traffic can be a bit noisy so may bother some people. We did book barn end as the pub is dog friendly and is literally a 2 minute walk, we prefer not to drive of an evening for a drink but it was closed and although thatâs out of your control maybe itâs not worth mentioning it in the listing until it reopens. But overall a lovely stay and in an ideal place for all popular tourist areas without being right in it the thick of it. Would stay again

Well appointed, spotless with all the mod cons you could wish for. We had a 4x4 which fitted fine in the parking space. Yes the pub is currently shut but Conniston, Ambleside and Hawkshead are only a few minutes drive away. Cars do drive past on the road, but considering it was mid term not many and very quiet after 6pm.

Unfortunately the Outgate Inn is currently closed which would of been great if opened as so near the property. We did have an issue with the hot water in kitchen and bathroom sink. Maintenance did come out it was ok for a day but didn't work again,we just boiled a kettle so not a great problem for us. We found the bed comfortable after reading some of the reviews we were worried however it was ok for us. It would be good to have a small clothes airer. (Just a suggestion). The property is in a great location for walking. Our dog loved it as did we.
