    About this property

Set in the Lake District National Park, Dell Cottage, a traditional cottage set over three floors, is perfect for families wanting to explore Far Sawrey.
Dell Cottage is as attractive as the location it sits in. A traditional terraced cottage with views over the surrounding countryside, it is set in the heart of the Lake District National Park. The unspoilt hamlet of Far Sawrey was once home to Beatrix Potter, and a number of sites in the village were used in her books.
The cosy layout of the cottage is set over three floors, with a newly refurbished shower room for 2018. The kitchen/dining room found on the ground floor has plenty of space to serve a delicious meal or to sit round the dining table and enjoy good conversations. On the first floor, you can choose from the delightful living room with its roaring wood burner, or the light and airy sitting room, with a bright picture window taking in the views.
The two double bedrooms can be found on the top of floor of the cottage and one can be comfortably converted into a twin room. Outside, parking for two cars can be found adjacent to the delightful sitting-out area, with a chiminea to warm those long summer nights.
Moss Eccles Tarn is an enjoyable walk from Far Sawrey. It was here that Beatrix Potter spent many an hour fishing from a rowing boat that can now be seen at the Steamboat Museum at Windermere. It is thought that the water lilies on Moss Eccles inspired the story of Jeremy Fisher.
Bowness Ferry connects the road through Far Sawrey with Bowness-on-Windermere. At nearby Claife Heights is Claife Station, built in the 1790s, a viewpoint where visitors can look at Lake Windermere. For the last stop on any walk, try the local dog-friendly inn, which can be found just across the road from Dell Cottage, stocked with fine traditional ales and locally sourced food, you really don’t have to worry about the walk home either! Beach 23 miles. Shop and restaurant 2¾ miles, pub 50 yards.

"We had such a nice break here, 7 nights in total and it went very quick!! Quirky, cosy, comfy, and nice and homely. Wi-fi is excellent throwing out 40meg+. Parking is good for two cars behind the cottage, but a little tight getting in as the road is narrow but do-able.Claire the owner gets 10/10 for being on hand for absolutely anything, and went above and beyond for us!"

"We’ve not stayed in Far Sawrey before and enjoyed the walks offered by Dell Cottage. It’s great to have a designated parking space and a pub literally across the road. The cottage was very well equipped and had everything that our family (two adults, one child and one dog) needed during our week long stay. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of space for us all to relax. It was also great being able to take the dog.I liked the option of daily fresh milk deliveries and would’ve used this had we not taken a six pint bottle with us!The cottage owner was ever so helpful prior to our visit and incredibly hospitable and flexible about any requests made. Thank you for making our 2018 visit to the Lakes the best one yet!"

"The cottage is good value for money in a quiet location. Close to two excellent pubs for good eating."

"A lovely comfortable cottage in a pretty lane. Perfect location for walking to places like Wray Castle, Claif Heights and Moss Eccles Tarn, not forgetting Hawkshead. We loved the pub across the road The Cuckoo Brow Inn for an early evening drink and bar meal. Would def book this place again."

"We stayed for 3 nights (3 adults and two dogs) and the cottage suited us perfectly. Ammenities were good and the double parking space much appreciated. The beds in particular were extremely comfortable and the bathroom was sparkling clean with a good quality walk in shower. Having slate floors at both entrances would be a boon in wet weather for those with dogs or small children, although we were blessed with excellent weather. Both local pubs serve delicious, interesting food (definitely need to book ahead) and are in easy walking distance. The only minor complaints would be the lack of teapot (we're old school!) and the placing of the tv in front of the view across the fields. Would definitely stay there again."

"This is a beautiful cottage all I will say is if you have toilet trained toddlers there is a very dodgy part of the landing that is an accident waiting to happen while children are crossing to go to the toilet in the night nothing a safety gate wouldn’t cure or simply swap the bedrooms around. It really is an amazing place I will definitely go again."

"Lovely 2-bed cottage, v. comfortable - easy access to good walking and even easier access to the pub!"
    Clare ‐ 22 Aug 2018
"Fantastic holiday...beautiful location and great host. Definitely worth a revisit ."

"This is the second time we have stayed at Dell Cottage and we have really enjoyed both our stays. The cottage itself is lovely and very well presented. The new bathroom and toilet has made a big difference. All the neccesessities such as tea, coffee, biscuits etc had been left for us and after a mishap with the key the owners were very helpful and popped straight over to help us which was greatly appreciated. Unfortunately since our last stay the local village shop has closed so the only thing i would mention is that it is about 3 miles to the nearest shop in hawkshead but if you plan in advance it certainly isnt a deal breaker. The cottage is in a great location in a quiet part of the lake district with lots of great walks nearby. We ate at both the local pubs the cuckoo brow and the tower bank arms which were both excellent. We will most certainly be visiting again."

"Our main concern was with regard to the cleanliness of the cottage. The shower screen was not clean , nor was the door of the microwave. Plug sockets were also dirty. there was a damp smell as you entered the back door. The seating area which was across the road was also pretty grubby. The bedrooms were clean and the beds were comfy. There was milk in the fridge on arrival and we were told we didnt need to rush out in the morning which was nice though we did as we didnt want to be there any longer."
