    Holiday cottages in Ivybridge

Ivybridge has welcomed travellers and holidaymakers for centuries. It's first recorded as a crossing place to the River Erme back in 1280, and by the 1700s it was thriving as a coaching station between Plymouth and Exeter. Holiday cottages in Ivybridge are still sought after, and the town is a great alternative to traditional British seaside resorts.

The town of Ivybridge is surrounded by moorland and countryside and its heritage includes milling and cloth making. The original Ivy Bridge still stands and is often packed with artists painting the scenery. Visitors can also head to the town centre to check out the characterful pubs and local produce stores. Sustainable farming is popular here so cooks and food lovers will be spoilt for choice with delicious local fare.

Holiday cottages in Ivybridge offer another treat. The town is the starting point of the Two Moors Way long distance walking route all the way to Lynmouth. At Snaptrip we have thousands of properties for you to choose from, with lots of special offers and backed by our best price guarantee.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Nigel - Verified booking

At my recent Sykes holiday cottage I paid for the use of a communal freezer and washing machine facilities for use for me holidaying alone and perhaps the owners of the property next door.

Upon my arrival I was instructed NOT to use either of these facilities due to the Covid pandemic! - Very slightly possibly a wise precaution but it was very inconvenient and a questionable excuse considering I was by myself and cleaning clothes half way through a week’s holiday and having purchased frozen meals to avoid too many shopping trips in the low infected Devon region away from my home area flew in the face of total self sanitation and self isolation was made that more difficult! Considering that at a similar Sykes holiday cottage where I paid a similar price just a month earlier and where both these facilities were provided I felt I was owed a reasonable refund? My only other complaint for this cottage and several others that are advertised with Sykes as having TVs is that I often have to load my own reasonable sized TV into my car to connect up and swap over with the unreasonably small TV provided by the particular cottage I have just stayed and very many others that I have experienced or indeed discounted after the picture shows a pathetically small TV. At my retired age with less than 20/20 vision, I feel discriminated against for not being able to enjoy a large screen TV of at least 46 ins that would easily fit most cottages and are so relatively cheap these days to purchase in bulk - and are very pleasing to watch for mature patrons when the weather is so bad in Mid Devon! There was a lovely 65 inch one at my previous cottage in North Yorkshire in cold April! I can add that without children to bath and holidaying outside seasonal summer ‘global warming’ affected weather we DO NOT need or find good value for money any cottages featuring these expensive luxuries!! According to your ‘holiday experts’ since returning from both my recent holidays I have been removed (inexplicably to me) from my preferred email contact preference so apparently I was unable to be supplied my ‘Level 3’ loyalty reward of £40 discount on my intended next booking with Sykes that was advertised by email to use within a set time after my return from both my holidays and the offers have now expired! I have complained twice now by phone and after the second complaint was assured a return call that did NOT materialise so I am VERY disappointed this early into the holiday season! It also appears to me that some of your cottage owners are hiking up their prices for the same week next year compared with what was advertised this poor year? I do realise that it has been very hard for holiday businesses during the past two seasons and in respect of self catering holidays perhaps somewhat unreasonable restrictions were imposed but I do not feel it is fair to make the loyal customers who also suffered disappointment or maybe illness or bereavement to have to help recoup the losses felt by Sykes or the cottage owners. Please consider replying to my criticism by email.

Absolutely idyllic From the moment we arrived it looked and felt like we were in a foreign holiday villa.

Although as some have suggested it is down a narrow track this never caused an issue and we like being out of the way. It's a very pretty area to walk around and the vast grounds we had all to ourself left us feeling very lucky, almost spoilt. There is a stream with small waterfalls running the whole length of the lower field with a large pond so in the mornings we got to have a hot drink watching the fish or the deer, during the day the kids loves finding newts, tadpoles and lizards and it's a great spot in the evening to have a bottle of wine, enjoy the sun and the tranquility, I think even the dog will get the holiday blues when we leave. There is a nice seating area by the accommodation which is a nice sun trap in the evening with a few cows just over the fence and bat's late on. The owners are incredibly friendly yet unobtrusive, we were left a greatly appreciated bottle of fizz, some mik and biscuits. The accommodation is all on one floor but doesn't feel small, the kitchen had all we needed, the bedrooms were clean and comfy as you would expect and the juliet balcony off of the living room was a fantastic addition, you really barely have to leave the accommodation. As we were visiting family it was a great base as every beach and town seems to be within 20-25 minute drive, and the lanes really aren't that bad at all except a vast number of holiday makers feel they need an 8 foot wide 4x4 and struggle to deal with the passing places. However even at a busy time we had no issues getting to Salcombe, Kingsbridge, south Milton, Thurlstone, and bigbury all under half an hour. It may also be handy to know, tesco can deliver here, there's a petrol station within ten min drive, and most of the beaches have dog friendly areas. The anchorage pub in Ugborough was a nice place and there's still not much point in joining the 30 thousand other people that cram into the one tiny street in overhyped Salcombe, unless you have a boat or your going to enjoy the view from the ferry Inn its a lot of hassle for very little gain. Aside from that we really can't Gush and recccomend Bearscombe enough, time for one last drink by the pond methinks.

      Fabulous stay at Meadow View.

Beautiful cottage clean, spacious and attractively furnished with everything we could possibly need for a great stay. We slept well and enjoyed waking up to the sight of the stunning Dartmoor hills the property overlooked and visiting deer. Phil and Ann our hosts, were very friendly and on hand if needed but otherwise unobtrusive. South Devon has a wealth of gorgeous places to visit, our favourites were - Dartmouth where we had a great River Cruise on a steamer and explored the shops; South and North Sands and Salcombe- slightly scary drive down to coast, very narrow roads but you do get used to it!! Sea Tractor ride at South Sands and rock-pooling at North. We walked from North Sands to Salcombe town - about 15 minutes - (take change for car park at North Sands - very patchy signal); We took foot passenger ferry from Salcombe (after crabbing with the grandchildren who stayed nearby!) across to Portlemouth to the most beautiful Sandy beaches; Blackpool Sands (it is stones not sand, you’ll need sea-shoes) but great place for water sports; We also ventured to Cornwall’s Eden Project at about 1hour 15mins as we wouldn’t be that close again - great day out for all; Steam train ride from Totnes to Buckfastleigh and return - 120 year old train! Lovely knowledgeable volunteers - beautiful short trip to edge of Dartmoor. On return easy walk (albeit uphill) to Totnes Castle and some very nice shops. We walked our legs off, weather was kind and had a lovely very memorable week - thank you Phil and Ann and beautiful South Devon

If you want a relaxing away from it all break, this is it !

Lovely accommodation , spotless, . Well equipped . The owners have thought of everything . We had a problem with the tv on the day we arrived ,i phoned the number provided ,and it was sorted out straight away . The grounds are lovely, ,a large lake , grass areas ,wooded area where wild garlic and blue bells are starting to flower . . All you can hear are birds. Wild deer visit , I was fortunate to see an otter cross from the stream to the lake early one morning while taking the dogs out . Although the cottage is fairly remote , approached by narrow lanes ,it is within easy reach of beautiful sandy beaches (20-25 mins )….. try Bigbury ,and walk across the cause way when the tide is out, to Burgh island . Totness is nice if you like browsing around shops . For food try the Ring feeder …. Home cooked food . Beef and pork produced on their own farm ,very quirky lovely cakes . Also a farm shop on sight for fresh produce . Also The California inn , traditional pub . Lovely food . For something a bit further afield . The oyster shack . Sea food and fresh fish .

We felt the property was perfect for what we wanted - a cosy feeling, all the essentials + a few extras for us to come back to after exploring the area during the day.

We enjoyed the special touches added (some milk, juice and biscuits at arrival). Nice to see the drawers are equipped with many supplies, so if you were staying for longer and were caught on a rainy day - you could even bake a cake! The cottage is built on top of a garage, and while the owners try to be as considerate as possible, it can be a bit loud in the morning if you are a noise-sensitive sleeper and want a lie-in. I personally struggled with the pillows as they were too soft and gave me a neckache, however, my partner had no issues with them. The view from the cottage is so beautiful and picturesque, it was a delight to have your morning drink at the table or at the outside area. The location was convenient enough for us to drive into Totnes, Brixham, Torquey and Dartmoor. We have already recommended Orchard Loft to relatives and would definitely come back again!
