About this property

Deep in leafy Devon lanes and within the boundary of Dartmoor National Park is this former Victorian schoolhouse. Beautifully refurbished throughout the house retains many original period features. Enter into a a bright hall with space for coats and boots, off which you'll find a spacious dining area with room for everyone to eat together. The kitchen has a breakfast table and is well equipped with everything you'll need during your holiday. The snug sitting room has a wood-burning stove and is a cosy spot; cool in the summer, yet wonderfully warm in winter it's a perfect place to spend an evening in front of the fire. The former school room is now a huge games space complete with air hockey, games books and a futon style bed. On the first floor are two smart bedrooms a king size and a twin room both overlooking the pretty gardens. They share a family bathroom. Outside is a large, well tended garden with pretty shrubs, mature shady trees and parking for two cars.

For walkers, this is a perfect spot with direct access to Dartmoor and the Two Moors Way footpath which starts in Ivybridge, and the River Erme valley is also very scenic. City fans will love Plymouth, a vibrant and buzzing place with theatre, cinemas and shops aplenty. For seaside fun, beaches don't come much more lovely than those of the South Hams. With all the delights of Dartmoor and the South Hams beyond, School House is an ideal holiday for those seeking a holiday in Devon.

Harford: hamlet (ancient church, cottages, scattered farms) on the southern tip of Dartmoor National Park in the sheltered River Erme valley. Stone circles and cairns at nearby Butterdon Hill and close to Two Moors Way. Shops at Ivybridge, 2 miles. Sandy beach at Mothecombe, 10 miles.

Tastefully decorated throughout. Very clean and well maintained. Very well equipped kitchen. Very comfortable beds. Huge games room which is wonderful for children, they would never get bored. Beautiful location, just inside Dartmoor National Park with access to the moor virtually on doorstep but only couple of miles from Ivybridge which has everything. So peaceful too, only sounds are the babbling streams and birdsong. Highly recommend this place, one of the nicest we’ve stayed in.

Gail was very sweet and left a bottle of wine and some fresh milk for us in the fridge. The house is equipped with everything you need. We found the kitchen very well stocked and loved the attention to detail. We were there in very cold weather, but the rooms were stocked with wood for the fire, blankets, and hot water bottles. The game room was great for days spent indoors, playing pool, Scrabble, air hockey, ping pong, or any of the other dozens of board games. The library has loads of books to choose from, too. In the evenings, the sitting room was so comfortable once we lit the fire. The garden was the best thing for our cocker spaniel and even though it's not fully fenced, it's big enough that Ruby never tried to get out. She had plenty of running space there. Plus, it was peppered with snowdrops, which was just beautiful. Really recommend this, and we will probably book it again, but do bear in mind that in winter, the house is quite cold. Plus, there's no phone signal in the house or the immediate area (though we didn't miss it, and the WiFi worked great), and the nearest shops are in Ivybridge, a 10-minute drive away.

The snug that is mentioned on the website, but is not in the pictures, is very cosy, and the shower is epic! Turn left out of the gate and the moors are just up the (quite steep) road. Our Border Collie had the week of her life, which is the best recommendation I can give!
