The Log Cabin in Devon offers a tranquil retreat embraced by nature, ideal for those seeking seclusion and a break from technology. Guests appreciate the peaceful setting, the opportunity for walks, and the wildlife. The rustic charm of the cabin and the warm welcome from the owners, including occasional treats like fresh scones, contribute to a restful experience. While some find the cabin's simplicity and location perfect, others note areas for improvement.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Cleanliness has been a concern for some guests, with reports of finding previous occupants' belongings, rubbish under beds, and a lack of thorough cleaning. However, not all reviews mention cleanliness issues, indicating experiences may vary.

The cabin's location is highly praised for its beauty and tranquillity, offering a serene environment and proximity to nature. Some guests were surprised by the other accommodations on site and the distance from the main road, but the setting is generally considered a highlight.

Comfort receives mixed reviews; while some guests find the cabin cosy and the beds comfortable, others mention outdated and uncomfortable furnishings, including saggy sofas and hard bunk beds.

Facilities and maintenance are adequate, with some guests enjoying the rustic charm and wood burner. However, there are comments about the need for better maintenance, such as unstable bunk beds, blunt kitchen knives, and drainage issues in the shower.

The owners' thoughtfulness is noted in several reviews, with mentions of a warm welcome and occasional gifts like fresh scones, cream, and jam. It's important to note that such gestures, while appreciated, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Sheldon 0.5 miles. A real rustic retreat! An atmospheric log cabin in a valley on the edge of peaceful woodland, within the grounds of the owner's trout farm, half a mile from the picturesque hamlet of Sheldon, and 7 miles from Honiton. Situated within the Blackdown Hills, and made from weathered pine logs, this unusual holiday home has an open plan living area, a woodburner in a large inglenook fireplace, and a covered veranda ideal for an evening drink and BBQ. Walk the woods and country lanes in peace, explore the region's beautiful countryside and visitor attractions, or fish in the nearby lake and enjoy grilled trout for supper on the veranda, before being lulled to sleep by the sound of running water. It's the perfect country escape.

The Hills are a nationally important landscape and were designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in recognition of the special qualities of its natural and built environment. Being relatively unspoilt, the Hills offer a rare sense of timelessness. A network of hedges, mature hedgerow trees and small copses link a rich mosaic of semi-natural habitats. The area is perfect for walks, cycling and horse riding where the quiet bridleways and byways offer many opportunities to explore and enjoy the locally distinctive buildings, archaeological remains and natural flora and fauna. Sheldon is centrally located to explore attractions further away, such as the City of Exeter with its ancient Cathedral, High Street shopping and arts centres. Historic Honiton is also nearby, giving you a chance to find out more about the honey exports that gave the town its name and, a few miles south, you'll find the unspoilt beaches of Exmouth and the rest of the Jurassic Coast.

Plenty of walking opportunities. As it is Trout farm you can order fresh fish which tastes delicious. Owner very friendly and helpfull.

The 2 single mattresses were very lumpy and uncomfortable. The settees were so low it was difficult to get out of them. There is no lock on the toilet door. The wood burner took a lot of effort to light with no kindling wood supplied. Then when we did get it going there was no glove or anything there to open the very hot door with to make it up!!. A description of the cabin would be "tired and in need of some TLC"

Fully equipped with all needed in kitchen. Owners were friendly and left you alone to enjoy your holiday. Would definitely return again.
