The jewel in the North West crown, the Lake District has visitors flocking every year to soak up some of that northern goodness, be it lounging lakeside with a melting honeycomb ice cream or stood proudly at the top of Scafell Pike. The region also boasts lovely Lancashire, home to the rural city of Lancaster, the imposingly beautiful Ashton Memorial and gorgeous canal-side scenes. Fancy something a little less country? There’s the bright delights of Manchester and Liverpool, where a superb cocktail and splash of urban excitement is never hard to find.

"The accommodation was spotlessly clean on our arrival. Plenty of space, nice to have a dishwasher and tablets. Beds were very comfortable and nice decor. Could do with a couple of hooks in the bathroom to hang towels and more clothes hangers as there were only six hangers for a family of four. There were a couple of broken slats in the fence around the hot tub and the outside of the lodge could do with a fresh coat of paint. We had a problem with our heating not working, the maintenance man was very helpful and came out three times to have a look at it, but it wasn’t until we left that the manager told us about a button to press to turn it on (seems our accommodation was missing a ‘green’ book which had instructions in and the maintenance man wasn’t aware of the button either (he had only been in the job a couple of days). The shower in the ensuite leaked."

"This is a fairly new and upcoming site. No real entertainment facilities on site so perfect for a totally relaxed chilled get away. There is no wifi and the kitchen needs to have more plates and cutlery in etc, only 5 dinner plates for a 6 person lodge. We were impressed with the size of and space in the lodge. Also thank you for the complimentary bottle of chilled wine. There were a lot of flies around (annoying) as you are opposite a fishing pond.Hot Tub: Not all of the jets and lights were working. We did mention this and were told only one side of the jets come on at a time? However one side of the jets didn't work at all. The hot tub is maintained around 10am everyday and is ready for use when you arrive. Overall we enjoyed our stay but feel that it is slightly overpriced compared to other locations with more facilities on-site"

"We spent a fantastic 2 weeks here and can't fault any aspect of our stay. We received a genuine warm welcome. When we opened the door to the lodge every inch exceeded our expectations. A washer/dryer was a godsend be a use our length of stay. A big American style fridge freezer with a great addition of a separate under counter wine cooler. The lodge was very well appointed a comfortable home for our stay. The weather was scorching hot and the hot tub was a fantastic way to relieve that (we knocked the temperature down a few). Loads of great places to visit. For kids there are 3 theme parks within an ours ride. Lots of great market towns locally too. 2 supermarkets within a 15 min drive. We would stay again in a heart beat and would not hesitate to recommend Colliery Lane Lodges to everyone."

"Very much enjoyed our Xmas break . Very nice lodge, well equipped, clean, furnished to a good standard. Was a little disappointed with the size of the (unlit) Xmas tree which fitted neatly in the middle of the dining table. WiFi a bit unreliable, not available for 2 days. Anyone wanting to use the built in sound system, please be aware that the iPod dock is not the modern lightning pin. The cooker is a bit on the slow side, be careful as the gas can easily blow out if it’s windy and you have a window open. The hot tub was excellent and on the whole it was a nice lodge."

"We have just got back from a wonderful weekend away for our anniversary and just want to say a huge thank you to the owner for the amazing hospitality and quality of our stay! After a lovely warm welcome, we were introduced to our beautiful and cosy hedgehog lodge which was stunning along with the hot tub, a wonderful and romantic weekend. We were pleasantly surprised to find this lodge was already equipped with everything and the recommendations you suggested to eat out were great! In particular The windmill inn cannot wait to return again!!! Highly recommended!"
