"S22882 was a good, family-friendly and simple base for our family of six (plus our dog) to explore the north of Scotland. The cottage was clean & tidy upon arrival and everything worked correctly. Whilst some of the decor is a bit dated, we believe this is reflected in the cost. Overall, we felt the cottage represented good value for money. The cottage used to be a stable for the disused mill in the same grounds, which is full of history and very interesting to read about. Also next to this property is a bridge that was built by viking settlers around 1,000 years ago. A stoney beach is a short walk away, just follow the stream behind the property down to the sea.Duncansby Head offers stunning views of the famous sea stacks and plenty of opportunities for birdwatching, as does nearby Dunnet Head. We saw fulmars, kittiwakes, herring gulls, guillemots, razorbills, oystercatchers and shags during our time there. A good number of common seals have made Gills Bay harbour their home, in case you initially struggle to find them (as we did). Puffin Croft (the petting zoo) in JoG is small but excellent, our children loved it.We took the ferry out to Orkney to visit the Italian Chapel, the Standing Stones of Stenness, the Ring of Brodgar and Skara Brae, as this was easy to do being so close to the Gills Bay - St Margarets Hope ferry. This was a great day out and we really recommend making the effort to go.Only basic food items are available in John o' Groats itself, but major supermarkets can be found in Thurso and Wick which are not very far away. The owner would have appreciated better communication from us and better accuracy as regards arrival time, so this is worth keeping in mind when you make arrangements for key collection. Our only feedback is to try to address the temperature inside the property. Old wall-mounted electric heaters provide warmth and are effective, but cannot be left on overnight for safety reasons, so the temperature inside the property drops considerably (I should point out the temperature outside was between 0 - 4 degrees throughout our stay). A draught excluder for the front door could be a quick-win.People staying at this cottage during a cold time of year should take extra blankets, be prepared to sleep in their clothes and make full use of the 3 x hot water bottles that are provided. I wouldn't expect this to be an issue during summer months and we would stay again at a warmer time of year."

"We had a fantastic week at 'S22899' and wished we could have spent longer there! The location was very peaceful and relaxing though conveniently near to shops and amenities for supplies when required. The view across the bay from the sun-lounge was spectacular, binoculars were thoughtfully provided for us to see a variety of wildlife including many species of birds and even a seal! The cottage was immaculate and beautifully organised, with an ' in case you forgot' container as a handy standby, a welcome basket and a tray of home-baked cakes. The rooms were very clean and tidy with perfect attention to detail. The owner arrived to say hello on our first day and offered to give assistance if we needed any during our stay. This was not our first visit to the area as we were visiting relatives in nearby Lybster, but we noticed that there was plenty of literature for those new to the area with local maps for walkers and cyclists. The cottage had plentiful supplies of hot water, heating and reliable Wi-Fi; all very important factors to contribute to an enjoyable holiday experience. Thank you for making this an excellent break for us."

"Cottage was fabulous...a home from home...everything that we would want in a holiday cottage. In fact the wi-fi service and amount of channels available on the telly was much better than we have experienced in all the other properties that we have holidayed in with your company. Usually in the evening we use our amazon fire stick and watch Netflix ( providing there is a good enough wi-fi which in some properties is non-existent although advertised) but that was not necessary on this trip. We would highly recommend this property for a quiet getaway with a pub on your doorstep and a good shopping and eating out area 5 miles away and a lovely area to explore. LOVED IT!!!!!"

"S24372 cottage is the most comprehensively equipped cottage we have ever stayed in.The extra touches are fantastic as in a bottle of wine, tea, coffee, milk, biscuits all unexpected but very welcoming. S24372 has all the cooking and cleaning equipment you could possibly need and more it is very clean (spotless) and tidy and a pleasure to stay there.I have no hesitation in recommending for winds to anyone and would gladly stay there again. The dining area is wonderful with great views over the water if you could arrange for the odd whale or pod of dolphins to put in an appearance that would be the cherry on the cake but maybe next time!!!Kind regardsJohn & julie"

"This part of the world is not where you get 40 degrees of sun however the weather was very good and we always managed to get out and about. The peace and quiet was a real bonus and I felt fully refreshed on my return to city life. The cottage is situated in a lovely little village and the views from the small conservatory look out over open sea to the islands of Orkney. It was extremely well fitted out with everything you could need available. The couple who own it met us and gave us a full tour, ensuring we felt comfortable with all the various appliances etc. A full folder of information was also there, with a lovely bottle of wine! July 2009."
