What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sheena - Verified booking

It is a nice little cottage and cosy.

It was a shame that the fireplace and bread oven don't have some form of lighting, as the room was quite dark, even with the wall lights. The neighbours were very pleasant and the people in and around the village are very nice. There were one or two little issues. Although the owner had said that there was a problem with the plugs in the sink and basin, I found no problem with the sink, but when I put water into the basin in the bathroom and had pushed the plug down, I was constantly chasing the water down the plug hole, so you either had to keep the hot and cold tap running all the time you were washing, or fill the basin right up and wash before the water ran out. I felt this issue could have been solved by a new rubber ring on the plug, possibly. The shower seemed to be a bit stop start and luckily I was only washing my hair. it was almost like an air lock in the system. The back gate was getting more difficult to get in and out of, as it has either dropped or the latch doesn't fit properly. Make sure you take throws with you for the sofa and chair, whether you are taking dog/dogs or not, I am glad I took mine, as the sofa and chairs were a little marked in places as is the cushion on the window seat. More informative leaflets on places to go, walks, etc would be nice. The one telephone number missing in the welcome pack is the local Vets in case of emergency. Also an idea of where the nearest Supermarkets are would have been nice. Other than that, as I say it was nice and cosy and fairly quiet, but the lane was a little busy with traffic on occasions as it's the only access road to and from Kilve beach.

Wow, what a true gem Old Cary Cottage is!

Tucked away in an idyllic hamlet away from the hustle and bustle of life this beautiful cottage is everything we could have hoped for! The space inside is so well thought-out with an exquisite interior that spills into the perfect wild garden and blends in with the surrounding nature effortlessly! It also had everything practical covered for people and pups alike. We came for a short two night stay and visited Wells and Cheddar easily from the property but all secretly looked forward to returning back each evening. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, our 2 children (5 and 8) who loved nature spotting and lazing in the hammock, our 1 year old apple munching labrador who endlessly ran, sniffed, and ate his way around the enclosed garden, or us parents who got to enjoy a well earned sunrise coffee / sunset glass of wine! The owners (who live next door) were incredibly friendly in the few interactions we had, one of which was to drop everything and help us escape a scary cow related situation (of our own making) and their children even helped ours to find the best blackberries! Word of caution - don't take a wrong turn and attempt to go THROUGH the length of the cow field, something we foolishly did without thinking! All in all a perfect stay and highly recommended!

What a cosy, lovely little cottage in an idyllic spot with walks straight out onto the levels.

Cottage felt spacious , it is not obvious from picture how far it extends back. Bedrooms are a really good size and beds were reasonably comfortable . So impressed with owners renovation which keeps cottage at a good temperature. Plenty of hot water for a lovely soak. Everything we needed was provided. All we could think of as improvements are a potato masher and coat hooks in hall Great dvd collection available+ dvd, mobile reception was mostly ok. We were delighted to see the owl regularly in the garden ! We did not see owners much at all although they are next door, there is good privacy. The location is nice and quiet. The sat nav did not take us to right place initially - easiest access is through Ham village , down hill and turn right into Henley Lane, it’s them on left with front of gate visible. We had one meal put at the Halfpenny pub in Pitney, worth booking as very popular for hearty pub grub and very reasonable ! We enjoyed Somerton, Glastonbury, Montacute National trust and village, Ham hill walk, Coombe Hill ( not near property) . Langport is a lovely friendly town with walks and in Street, there is the Clark’s retail shopping centre. We will definitely be coming back here !

We absolutely loved this beautiful little cottage, even more spacious than the photos depicted.

The lovely open plan kitchen spills over to the lounge, so we could cook, socialise, and warm ourselves in front of the roaring log fire. The underfloor heating added to the comfort, with comfy beds and a beautifully tiled bathroom for plenty of hot showers. The kitchen was so lovely, that we even decided to take time to bake and decorate a cake, for all we needed was available. We loved the wraparound veranda, and truly enjoyed wrapping up warm and having a morning coffee together, looking out to the garden and open fields, an epitome of tranquility. We did not need to call upon the owners, whom lived next door, as we found everything we needed kindly provided by them, including a great recommendation to a local quirky pub called The Sheppy. We were truly sorry to leave such a lovely, homey cottage, but with the hope to return in the summer, when we can enjoy the outdoor space much more. Thank you to Charlotte & John !

      Peaceful, tranquil and restorative.

Fantastic setting, lovely cottage and surroundings. Finishing touches were very quirky as was the general decor. Ideal for a complete decompression from town and city living, the natural wildlife in the garden and general area was amazing, we saw an abundance of insects and birds of prey. Very dog friendly, our’s came home exhausted from all the “sniffs” and exploring. A great base for exploring Glastonbury, Wells and the surrounding areas. Only downside were the beds. They could do with with upgrading for both size and comfort. As a tall person the double ended bed in the master was impossible to get comfortable in, and the second room bed had a mattress creakier than the Mary Rose. We had to come home for a decent night’s sleep. All in all, 8/10 with a big thumbs up from our 6yr old and the dog.
