What our customers say about their holidays

    • Isabel - Verified booking

The Trawler was good value for money, it was just a couple of minutes walk to the beach and had a nice big garden for the kids to run around in.

However, the accuracy of the listing was not great- there is no pub and shop less than a mile away, probably more like 4km away down a winding country road- meaning that we had to drive there and we couldn't both have a drink. The listing also states that there is a cot and highchair on request, but there isn't. We weren't made aware of this until we were at the property and I contacted sykes to find out where it was. I heard nothing back from sykes until the next morning. In the meantime I had emailed the owners and they had got back to me to say they didn't provide these and had made sykes aware back in April. Had I known, I could have brought a travel cot, instead my 1 year old had to sleep on a mattress on the floor for the week. Luckily I had brought a spare single sheet which i put on the mattress, as only the double bed and one other single bed had been made up (which my other daughter was using), and there were no spare sheets provided. Apart from these issues, the house was comfortable, just could do with a little maintenance e.g. the shower doors didn't close properly and when the washing machine drains it spills out onto the back patio. Also kitchen equipment was lacking- only 4 forks provided, cheese grater was broken and sharp at edges, serving spoon was broken, ladle also broken etc. All the above issues did marr the holiday a bit, but otherwise was a good base to explore wexford.

Annie's Cottage is a gem of a thatched cottage to stay in!

We recently spent two weeks in this beautiful cottage. It is ideally situated in the centre of Country Mayo, making trips to Achill Island, Mayo's north and west coasts and trips to Galway City in the next county easy to reach. It is spacious, very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean and even though we stayed in August, we had the odd chilly day but we were warm and comfortable with the underfloor heating, radiators and log burning fire. There were plenty of fresh linen and towels available and after our first week we were brought more in case they were needed. Annie's Cottage has two kitchens and both are stocked with ample pots, pans, cutlery and crockery, with plenty of storage for any shopping should you do a lot of eating in, as we do and there are two fridges, one with a large freezer. The cottage has a large, beautiful garden with table, chairs and a bbq and it was lovely sitting out in the evening catching the last of the sun with a glass of wine. The owners, Jim and Mai, are a lovely couple and live close by. They were the perfect hosts and had a welcome gift for us when we arrived and provided us with fresh eggs from their farm during our stay. We can honestly say that Annie's Cottage is the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in and will definitely book the cottage again when we next holiday in the beautiful and scenic Country Mayo. I booked this property for my parents (in their 70's), they had the most super trip to this cottage and absolutely loved their stay.

Everything was just what they needed - the walk in shower, ground level accommodation and easy access was just perfect. This property is absolutely ideal for a larger group/family as well. The hosts are so very welcoming and we really appreciated all the help and for being so attentive. It was home from home type accommodation. I really could not recommend this property highly enough. The welcome and attention to detail is superb. This is also a super area for exploring Mayo, there are many day trips in easy distance, there are numerous drives around the coastline and Wild Atlantic Way and you will not be disappointed with the scenery and splendid views around Mayo. There are some super spots for dining and entertainment in the nearby towns, whilst also being able to come back to a lovely homely nest in the evening with complete peace and tranquility. This is one of the best houses to book in the area and I challenge anyone to find anything but perfection here at Annie's Cottage. Please book without hesitation. You will not be disappointed!

      Wonderful holiday, thank you Henry!

The property is a thoughtfully renovated, comfortable and well equipped traditional Irish cottage, the kitchen being one of the best I've encountered. The cottage is beautifully located on the shores of Lough Melvin while a beautiful glade of trees beside the cottage provided much needed shade during the recent heatwave! There's lots to see and do in the locality though we also enjoyed swimming in the lake at nearby Derrynaseer ( an excellent alternative to crowded beaches as is nearby Garrison) cycling and walking the quiet roads, edged with lush hedgerows! It's clear that Henry takes Covid precautions very seriously which was reassuring. There were generous touches too like new toiletries and kitchen basics - and not so basics, wine and nice crisps! Although there's no mobile coverage inside the cottage, it's available a few 100 metres up the road - fine by us and promoted a sense of getting away from it all. Communication with Henry was easy at all times. We certainly plan to return - highly recommended!

Granny Kate's Cottage is a very special treasured find that I without hesitation will return to.

When first opening the gate and setting foot I was instantly transported to another time. The owner has given a lot of thought on maintaining the original features of the cottage with the experience of living authentically. The grounds have been landscaped and created earnestly which has given that extra magic while you explore and discover hidden spots on the land to sit and take in. The cottage's surrounding beauty with the additional Glengesh Pass backdrop gives that extra unique comfort when having your evening meal outside or breakfast. The location will also be especially appealing to keen cyclists and hikers, who have quick access to explore beyond Glengesh Pass and travel to Slieve Liag, Silver Strand, Glencolmcille, Teelin Pier and many more spots I must still discover. With the additional sounds of sheep bleating in the distance and the mystical cuckoo, if you want to rest and escape, Granny Kate's is a must. I'm really looking forward to returning.

    Frequent questions

    • What is the best month to visit Ireland?

The best month to visit Ireland depends on personal preferences and interests. The summer months of June, July, and August generally offer pleasant weather, longer daylight hours, and a vibrant atmosphere. However, spring (April and May) and autumn (September and October) can also be excellent times to visit, with fewer crowds, beautiful landscapes, and opportunities to experience local festivals and cultural events.

    • How many days in Ireland is enough?

The number of days needed to explore Ireland depends on the depth of experience desired. A minimum of 5-7 days is often recommended to cover the highlights of popular destinations like Dublin, the Ring of Kerry, the Cliffs of Moher, and Galway. However, to fully immerse in Ireland's diverse landscapes, historic sites, and vibrant culture, extending the trip to 10-14 days or more allows for a more comprehensive exploration of the country.

    • Where should I go in Ireland for the first time?

For a first-time visit to Ireland, starting in Dublin, the vibrant capital city, is a great choice. Explore its historic sites, such as Trinity College and Dublin Castle, and immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere. From there, consider visiting popular destinations like the scenic Ring of Kerry, the majestic Cliffs of Moher, and the charming city of Galway, which showcase Ireland's stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

    • What is the most walkable town in Ireland?

Galway is often regarded as one of the most walkable towns in Ireland. The compact city center allows for easy exploration on foot, with its pedestrian-friendly streets, lively atmosphere, and numerous attractions within close proximity. Strolling through the colorful streets of Galway allows visitors to discover charming shops, pubs, restaurants, and historical landmarks such as the Spanish Arch and Eyre Square.
