Arrived to a warm cottage with the heating on timer.
Very clean condition. Welcome goodies much appreciated. Cows in fields at back added to the rural feel. Property is described as ' serene escape amidst picturesque surroundings.' So was surprised to find the cottage is situated along a local road. While traffic is fairly light, this only makes the sudden explosion of noise from speeding cars all the more noticeable. At night, lights from cars turning left onto the road from the T-junction light up the property. As all the accommodation is at the front there is no escape from the noise and lights. All the walls and doors are painted white which gives the cottage a bleak feel. There is a TV on the wall in one room and a nice clock on the wall in another. Clock would be nicer if it had a battery in it. The settee and airchairs are the small, low and uncomfortable type. Having stayed in several Sykes holiday homes I found several things I took as basic missing. Placemats and coasters, radio, ironing board to go with the iron, side table for each seating area not just for one, full length mirror. The biggest item missing is a wardrobe. There's enough room in the family room for one. Hangers on wallpegs and on the back of the two bedrooms doors make the place feel untidy. The rear lawn is described as 'enclosed'. It isn't. There is nothing to stop children going from the back to the front parking and onto the road. Information pack could be improved with details of cooker and smart TV controls.

We had a wonderful week.
Lovely welcome from Abina and Tim. The cottage was comfortable, well equipped and delightful. Set in the countryside within easy distance of so many nearby sights. We went to Blarney Castle, Gougane Barra, a stunningly beautiful national park, Kilmichael ambush site, Union Hall, Glandore and Rineen on the coast, kayaking around some amazing scenery, Brandon and Dunmanway, where there was great history to discover. The Methodist Church in Dunmanway is now occupied by the historical society and has a superb collection of local historical artifacts and information. Vivianne and Tim were very helpful. We spent a few fascinating hours there discovering the real history of the area. St Mary's Church in Dunmanway has recently gained 8 new church bells, we were taken up to the belfry and allowed to ring tunes. Locals have knitted a copy of the Sam MacGuire cup for the All Ireland GAA competition and it sits on the window ledge in pride of place. The churchyard is where Sam MacGuire is buried. The last Friday of the month in the Greyhound bar in Dunmanway, locals come together to sing their Irish songs. A true delight. All in all a superb holiday and would completely recommend.

The cottage is in a brilliant location by being half way around the Ring of Kerry area but because it is actually situated on the Wild Atlantic Way you do feel the peace and quiet of the area and away from the traffic of the main tourist route.
We saw a mountain goat across the road one day. There is so much to do from here without having to drive very far. Our highlights were Derrynane beach, Kerry Cliffs (with converted bus cafe), the slate quarry grotto and Geokaun mountain walk both on Valentia, the Skellig Abbey remains on Ballinskelligs Beach. McCarthy Castle on Ballinskelligs beach is great fun for climbing up into ..Ballinskelligs beach is lovely, is Blue Flag and has a lovely garden cafe with mini market on Sunday. The beach is perfect for swimming as there are few waves. SuperValu in Cahersiveen is not far away for your big shop and you can top up at Brownâs just down the road for essentials and treats...for gift shopping then Skelligs chocolate factory is a must and the Skellig gift shop just before Waterville is really big with beautiful woollens, pottery, glassware etc. Special Thanks to Mary who looks after the cottage who called on us, she is so friendly and welcoming and recommended places to eat and visit. The cottage sea views are lovely. We loved our stay and will definitely return.

Granny Kate's Cottage is a very special treasured find that I without hesitation will return to.
When first opening the gate and setting foot I was instantly transported to another time. The owner has given a lot of thought on maintaining the original features of the cottage with the experience of living authentically. The grounds have been landscaped and created earnestly which has given that extra magic while you explore and discover hidden spots on the land to sit and take in. The cottage's surrounding beauty with the additional Glengesh Pass backdrop gives that extra unique comfort when having your evening meal outside or breakfast. The location will also be especially appealing to keen cyclists and hikers, who have quick access to explore beyond Glengesh Pass and travel to Slieve Liag, Silver Strand, Glencolmcille, Teelin Pier and many more spots I must still discover. With the additional sounds of sheep bleating in the distance and the mystical cuckoo, if you want to rest and escape, Granny Kate's is a must. I'm really looking forward to returning.

Absolutely fantastic to be able to stay in such an historic and original property, itâs beautiful and we loved the place.
I would I only mark down in a few places - the shower tray is so slow to drain you have to turn the water off to drain midway through your shower or itâll overflow, so that was a chilly few minutes waiting for that a couple of times per shower. A mouse kept appearing in the kitchen bin - not a problem in itself and expected in a property of its age - the only thing there was that when I wiped the kitchen floor after the mouse had been put out I found that the floor was really dirty and needed a proper clean. Good selection of board games⦠but all with bits missing which was quite annoying, a few jigsaws and complete games to pass a cold wet evening would be a good addition. Oh and no tin opener to be found anywhere. Minor things but I thought they were worth mentioning. None of this detracted from the loveliness of the cottage. The bed was comfy, hot water bottles were a lovely and useful touch. If we were going to Ireland again we would definitely rebook.
