What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kevin - Verified booking

The property itself was very spacious, but very dusty & lots of cobwebs all around.

The table mats need to be replaced they are very worn & tatty. There was an issue with ants in the utility area. The outside lights were not working & it was so very dark at nights outside & as a result of this my elderly mother had a fall & banged her arm, it could have been worse. Christine the caretaker was very helpful when I rang her about this, she got onto the owner straight away, he then sent an electrician out the next morning. He condemned the lights but managed to get a light working in the one outside the front door. He rang the owner who agreed to fix only one out the back. The lights are not much use until you get inside & turn them on. The street lights outside were all not working at all, all filled with moss inside them etc etc, so the whole place outside was pitch black, again a very dangerous place in the dark. This needs to be addressed for everyone not just number 13. It would be nice when travelling to the house & arriving late at night to have had at least a small welcome box with milk & bread in it, like in previous years. We have stayed in many of these holiday homes over the years & I can see so many cuts backs apart from the cost of them. Even the electric is so very pricey. The inside decor needs attention, where paint has come off the cream walls, they have been patched up with white paint in blobs. For the cost of the rental I would of expected perfection

Annie's Cottage is a gem of a thatched cottage to stay in!

We recently spent two weeks in this beautiful cottage. It is ideally situated in the centre of Country Mayo, making trips to Achill Island, Mayo's north and west coasts and trips to Galway City in the next county easy to reach. It is spacious, very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean and even though we stayed in August, we had the odd chilly day but we were warm and comfortable with the underfloor heating, radiators and log burning fire. There were plenty of fresh linen and towels available and after our first week we were brought more in case they were needed. Annie's Cottage has two kitchens and both are stocked with ample pots, pans, cutlery and crockery, with plenty of storage for any shopping should you do a lot of eating in, as we do and there are two fridges, one with a large freezer. The cottage has a large, beautiful garden with table, chairs and a bbq and it was lovely sitting out in the evening catching the last of the sun with a glass of wine. The owners, Jim and Mai, are a lovely couple and live close by. They were the perfect hosts and had a welcome gift for us when we arrived and provided us with fresh eggs from their farm during our stay. We can honestly say that Annie's Cottage is the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in and will definitely book the cottage again when we next holiday in the beautiful and scenic Country Mayo. Lizzie and Steve

We found the house to be well located and on the surface very clean.

But for a four day holiday rental which quite honestly was not cheap there was much need for improvement. Not one knife was sharp, so difficult and frustrating trying to cut anything. No big deal really but a little annoying. Nowhere to hang your coat. It’s the west of Ireland. It rains A LOT which it did while we were there, so might be a good idea to put some coat hooks inside the door. Also not really a big deal but not great sitting against your wet coat as the only place to put them was on the back of dining chairs. Cheap, nylon duvet covers in two of the bedrooms. It’s really not that difficult or expensive to buy cotton bed clothes making your guest slightly more comfortable. Finally what really compounded all the above points. The cleanliness. Our bedroom sheets were stained as in they were washed but old stains on the sheets and both bathrooms had hairs in the showers + bath. So basically the house was not cleaned well before we got there. We felt having paid quite a bit the standards and the level of care for guests was not very high. I have never complained about accommodation before. I do not want this to be published as I think all of these recommendations can be fixed. I wonder will we hear anything back from anyone or do you just want the guests money and don’t really care about them.

The cottage is in a brilliant location by being half way around the Ring of Kerry area but because it is actually situated on the Wild Atlantic Way you do feel the peace and quiet of the area and away from the traffic of the main tourist route.

We saw a mountain goat across the road one day. There is so much to do from here without having to drive very far. Our highlights were Derrynane beach, Kerry Cliffs (with converted bus cafe), the slate quarry grotto and Geokaun mountain walk both on Valentia, the Skellig Abbey remains on Ballinskelligs Beach. McCarthy Castle on Ballinskelligs beach is great fun for climbing up into ..Ballinskelligs beach is lovely, is Blue Flag and has a lovely garden cafe with mini market on Sunday. The beach is perfect for swimming as there are few waves. SuperValu in Cahersiveen is not far away for your big shop and you can top up at Brown’s just down the road for essentials and treats...for gift shopping then Skelligs chocolate factory is a must and the Skellig gift shop just before Waterville is really big with beautiful woollens, pottery, glassware etc. Special Thanks to Mary who looks after the cottage who called on us, she is so friendly and welcoming and recommended places to eat and visit. The cottage sea views are lovely. We loved our stay and will definitely return.

I booked this property for my parents (in their 70's), they had the most super trip to this cottage and absolutely loved their stay.

Everything was just what they needed - the walk in shower, ground level accommodation and easy access was just perfect. This property is absolutely ideal for a larger group/family as well. The hosts are so very welcoming and we really appreciated all the help and for being so attentive. It was home from home type accommodation. I really could not recommend this property highly enough. The welcome and attention to detail is superb. This is also a super area for exploring Mayo, there are many day trips in easy distance, there are numerous drives around the coastline and Wild Atlantic Way and you will not be disappointed with the scenery and splendid views around Mayo. There are some super spots for dining and entertainment in the nearby towns, whilst also being able to come back to a lovely homely nest in the evening with complete peace and tranquility. This is one of the best houses to book in the area and I challenge anyone to find anything but perfection here at Annie's Cottage. Please book without hesitation. You will not be disappointed!
