Why choose a Cornwall self-catering holiday?

Discover a destination in the UK that makes you feel like you're in another world. Opal blue waters lap against 250 miles of gloriously diverse coast. Silken beaches stretch into rugged south-west cliffs, where the homes of rich and wonderful wildlife hide. Below the rocks, lie smuggler's coves, and hundreds of years of sea-bound secrets.

When you book a holiday in Cornwall, you can enjoy making precious memories by wandering around charming fishing villages, exploring ancient castles, walking across miles of rugged coastline, relaxing on picturesque beaches, and mooching around chocolate-box towns.

If you're a fan of Poldark, then you're in luck! You can visit many incredible locations from the series, including Charlestown, Porthgwarra, St. Agnes, and the awe-inspiring Kynance Cove.

No trip to Cornwall is complete without sampling some of the legendary delicacies. First created in 1890, Cornish clotted cream is a delicious and indulgent treat. Enjoy a classic Cornish cream tea with lashings of the stuff! You'll also want to indulge in one (or several) Cornish pasties. Once the packed lunch of choice of Cornish tin miners, the national dish is stuffed with veg and meat, all perfectly enclosed in pastry.

Of course, if you're heading to Cornwall then you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches. Cornwall is home to maybe the most incredible coast in England. Wherever you base your Cornwall break, you'll be driving distance from at least one beautiful beach, and a cracking coast view that'll make snapping perfect pics almost too easy.

Historic St. Agnes is nestled on the coast of North Cornwall and boasts sandy beaches and scenic coastal paths. This Area of Outstanding Beauty is definitely one to add to your itinerary. Or why not head to the epic coastlines of Crantock Beach and have fun exploring the caves and amazing sand dunes? Holywell Bay is another beach to visit if you're a fan of dramatic coasts. It also has a stunning beach and pretty offshore islands.

If you're visiting Cornwall for a family holiday, you won't be short of brilliant family-friendly attractions. Visit the famous Eden Project and get lost in the wonders of nature, meet the wild residents of Newquay Zoo, climb aboard a steam train at Lappa Valley Steam Railway, or just enjoy time together splashing in the sea, slurping ice cream, indulging in fish and chips, and making memories.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs S - Verified booking

We usually holiday in St Ives when in Cornwall so were initially a little taken aback by the remoteness of the location and the 'walls' of hedgerow that frame many of North Cornwall's roads. However, we were delighted to find that Barney's Cottage lived up to its online description. The barn's conversion has been carried out to a high spec and beautifully finished right down to the deliciously comfy giant sofas and enormous comfortable bed. Our beloved 17 year old Jack Russell passed away just before this holiday, which was booked with Millie in mind, but we know she would have approved of the under floor heating next to her little paws and safely secured back garden. If a peaceful secluded retreat is what you crave from your holiday in Cornwall, we would definitely recommend Barney's Cottage for its privacy and supreme comfort.

Miner’s Rest was everything we could have wished for, and more!

It was immediately obvious that a lot of thought had gone into the needs of guests, and the owners should be commended for their attention to detail! However, it is highly unlikely that we shall be making a return visit due to the lack of parking available! We arrived on Friday evening, and parked in front of the property, and the car remained there over Saturday night. On the Sunday morning, our car was ticketed by a traffic enforcement officer who pointed out that the double yellow lines, which appeared to have been painted over and were barely, were still live and so we were obliged to pay the £35 fine! Finding a parking space close to the property was the cause of much frustration, given that we had my 80 year old mother-in-law with us! Thumbs up for the property, but thumbs firmly down for the lack of parking!

We could not recommend Barney’s Cottage enough, it really is a gem. It is a beautiful cottage, very clean and well kept, and ideal for privacy and dogs. This ticks all the boxes and is truly a great place to stay. It is located in an amazing off the beaten track yet easily accessible area with natural beauty all around. It is very spacious inside and equipped with everything you need. The shower is excellent and spacious. The outside is fabulous and private, not being over looked, and very large with so much room for a dog or dogs and children to run around play and exercise plenty, maybe around a third of an acre or more of land. The owners are extremely friendly and very helpful and made us feel most welcome. We have already booked our next stay here as a result. 10 out of 10.

We had a lovely stay at Miner’s Rest.

The property had everything you could need/want. The layout and size was perfect for our family (1 child & 2 dogs). The corner shop was very handy. The parking on the street was always available you just might have to go down a bit from the house and walk up but not an issue at all. The location worked and we travelled to & visited many parts of Cornwall. St Ives is less than 1/2 hour away and was one of our favourites! Overall our stay was lovely and we will be back. The only thing to raise and isn’t an issue or concern but the owners might want to know, is that the hallway/entrance had a smell, which sometimes came into the lounge. This wouldn’t impact us staying again but perhaps a deep clean might solve :)

Amazing Cottage owner thought of everything and very spacious.

Great to have the garden. The clotted cream scones, jam, milk, biscuits lovely. We forgot tea bag but all was provided. Loved it all and the beautiful bathroom. Great base to explore we done it all. We couldn't park outside but found a space in next road every day. We found it very quiet. 3 min dog walk to the left and little playground. Country Man Inn 6 mins from house to the right old traditional pub with great food & people. Morrison's express across road for great for take away breakfast. Cambourne town center 2 mile away quite a few shops and Weatherspoon's :) Read the manual as useful information. I definitely recommend and would love to return next year. Thank you for a lovely stay.
