What our customers say about their holidays

    • Trevor - Verified booking

The cottage was freezing when we arrived so we spent the first night in coats.

The welcome pack was nice and included ground coffee but no cafetiere or anything to make it with. I rang the number but they were no help. I did find a cocktail shaker with a dead fly in it though. The TV batteries were dead and no spares in the man drawer. There are CDs but no CD player, videos but no video player. There are candles dotted around but the instruction booklet said candles weren't allowed. The kitchen could have done with scissors and tongs. The downstairs shower room never got warm enough to use. Some of the curtains could have done with being a bit shorter so they would fit behind the radiators better. The cold water feed in the upstairs bathroom was worse than the hot water feed. There was a freezer but it was in an outside shed so probably wouldn't work in cold weather. The drive is constructed such that you scrape the bottom of the car on entering. I had to park in an unlit road. To get recycling instructions you had to type in a long URL to get to the county council information. I didn't bother. The cottage itself was fabulous. Uneven floors, small doors, cosy rooms; all quaint features you'd expect from a 17th century building. It is barely overlooked. The garden is huge. It's nice to see they've not sold it off. There's a lookout table and chairs at the highest point, but you have to avoid the dog pooh on the steps.

We stayed at the lodge between 19th November to 17th December 2021 as we were in the process of moving homes.

On arrival we met Ron & Carol the owners who are a really lovely couple that we got on with from the very start ad made us feel welcome, we found them helpful and they did not mind us contacting them at any hour of the day if there were a problem. They were always there for a chat which was nice. The lodge! what can I say was everything that we expected and more. 10/10 for cleanliness, very well laid out with a beautiful kitchen to work in. A living room to sit back and relax in. The lodge also had it's own private garden so if you have a pet like we have then nothing to worry about if your furry friend like to roam off. In addition the lodge is connected to the main house which is situated in a good few acres of lovely grounds. Overall we were made to feel at home during our stay and would not hesitate to go back if we were not moving to Brandon. The lodge is just perfect and a minutes walk from the high street so everything ie Tesco, Aldi, BP garage, pubs are not far, and there are lots of takeaway food outlets which are doted along the high street plus more. Thanks Ron & Carol for a great stay. Garry & Ruth.

The Lodge is situated in a lovely are of Suffolk.

Brandon is quite a large town with good facilities and The Lodge is on the edge of the town adjacent to a large park and recreation centre. Directions to the cottage were spot on and access is through a set of gates making the site private and secure with ample parking space. We were met by Carol and Ron, the owners, and made very welcome. After a tour of the cottage we were treated to a tour of the 4 1/2 acre grounds and informed of the various wildlife, and other attractions in the area. There was a welcome basket with Danish pastries on the dining table. The Lodge is very spacious and extremely well equipped. It was warm, cosy, and spotlessly clean. Despite being on the edge of town with a main road close by, there was virtually no traffic noise and the area is quiet. With lots of mature trees in the grounds, it was private and not overlooked., There are many towns and visitor attractions nearby in both Norfolk and Suffolk, and Cambridge is less than an hour away by car. Also nearby are the military bases at Mildenhall and Lakenheath.

The Lodge was a lovely cottage having been converted from the barn in the old rectory in Brandon.

Brandon itself had a Tesco and an Aldi if you wanted to buy essentials and the pubs and takeaways were all within a short walk. We had a couple of bevy’s sitting outside the Flintknappers Arms as it was April and still only outside drinking and dining allowed, we also had Chinese, Indian and fish and chips takeaway but also cooked as well. The Lodge was clean, comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. The owners Carole and Ron lived next door in the old rectory and were very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. We had a very safe enclosed patio garden which was lovely for us and the dog but the jewel in the crown was having access to Carole and Ron’s extensive garden/grounds which we all loved especially the dog and where we saw an abundance of wildlife visiting even deer. We would definitely go back without a moments hesitation and if this is fully booked have a look at The Retreat their other property which is in their grounds.

A truly wonderful stay experienced in delightfully appointed accommodation with everything that you could possibly think of or have need of, and more, to ensure that a really enjoyable time was had.

The Lodges own outside space very much appreciated by both us and our dog, and to top it off access to the owners huge, idyllic back garden with it's own lake provided an oasis of peace, calm and tranquility. Many birds and other wildlife frequent it at different times of the day and night, some were seen, some not. Brandon itself provides a great base for all that this part of Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire border country has to offer and we certainly enjoyed visiting Thetford (A must for Dad's Army fans), Thetford Forest and Ely, the latter with its interesting independent shops, historic Cathedral and informative Eel Trail. Local dining options/recommendations include the Tandoori (IP27 0EL), and Fish & Chips (IP27 0EW). Sincere thanks to Carol and Ron, there if you needed them, but not intrusive. We hope to be back again very soon.
