    • Nadia - Verified booking

The house was lovely, cosy, full of character, clean had everything we needed and loads of space.

More than it looked online. It was a great location, perfect for wandering the pretty streets of Kirkcudbright, easy access to local shops, galleries, pubs, restaurants and beaches just 10 minutes drive away. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather and enjoyed beautiful summer evening strolls around the lovely town and along the river. There are plenty of walks to do from Kirkcudbright itself and in the surrounding area. We were very grateful to Paul our host who not only made us feel exceptionally welcome but also as provided us with loads of information from walks in the area to places to eat. He was very friendly, kind and couldn't do enough to help. The town is full of great art and beautiful crafts. We found everyone really friendly. The children enjoyed seeing artists painting down at the harbour and the fantastic stone snake the town's people have created during lockdown. We would highly recommend a stay here and definitely will be heading back ourselves. Thanks Paul

Super week at St Mary's Place.

The cottage is spacious, cosy and very well equipped. The most comfortable beds we have ever slept on! A great location in Kirkcudbright, handy for all facilities and super walks, beaches and coastline close by. Others have mentioned the parking but we had no issues, only had to park away from the house once during the week and it was only a 50 metre walk. We were blessed with glorious weather so did not need the heating but the house would be very cosy in winter with the woodburner. The garden is delightful and a lovely place to sit in the evening. The shower is tight for space but hubby is 6ft2" and managed! Water pressure is good and water is nice and hot. We look forward to returning to this lovely cottage and exploring the area further. The local authority need to sort out their recycling efforts, glass bottles can be taken to bottle banks at the harbour. I only mention this as if visitors raise it local residents can use the information.

We liked the cottage very much & hope to stay again!

Very comfortable, spacious and very homely. It's not the most up to date in terms of decor, but we prize comfort and a cosy feel over that. Location is very handy for the town centre, so gallery, pub, eateries & lovely places to wander all nearby, yet quiet & pleasant. Parking was not a problem all week. We had a query and the owner, despite being away on his own holiday, pulled out all the stops to help & all was well. Slightest of caveats in that the property info on the Sykes site mentions the gas fire in the dining area & wood burning stove in the kitchen, neither of which were functioning, hence the slightly lower mark for facilities, but the gas fire is to be back soon apparently and we weren't cold. The dining area is a really pleasant, sunny room in the morning. The garden needs a good pruning, but it was too wet to use during our stay anyway! Have to go back to finish the books we borrowed off the shelf...

This a delightful house - roomy & very comfortable - in a great position, it's handy for shops & restaurants - all within 5-10 minutes walk.

The extras were greatly appreciated - wine, milk, tea, coffee, sugar, washing -up liquid, soap, toilet rolls etc. Wonderful idea to provide wind-up torches in bedrooms - luckily we didn't need them even after Storm Ali! Reading glasses are something we've never come across before. All machines worked perfectly - simple micro-wave - only the Smart TV was a wee bit too smart for us but we worked @ it & saw what we needed. Heating system quick & efficient - lots of hot water & 2 loos very convenient! No problems about parking @ the door. We spent a very pleasant fortnight here & were able to do plenty of walking - some right from the door. We only had one wee problem which was quickly resolved by Paul with the help of Andy Campbell - Thanks very much - we'd like to come back to see the lovely countryside in springtime.

      A lovely cottage!

Three large bedrooms, with comfy beds and plenty of towels, loo roll, kitchen equipment etc. The hosts were friendly and welcoming (they popped round to take the bin out in case we were too frail!) and had very kindly supplied things like tomato ketchup, tea and coffee as well a basic cooking materials. The only minor negatives were that the rooms were quite light so we tended to wake up quite early (maybe not a bad thing?) and the shower would be a bit cramped if you were 6 foot tall. The garden is well maintained and is a bit of a sun trap. Overall we were very happy with the property. It's very convenient for shops, art galleries, museums and walks and of course Kirkcudbright is an excellent base for exploring Dumfries and Galloway. Red Kite feeding and Wigtown bookshops are especially recommended!
