A short stroll takes you to the centre of Kirkcudbright, known as the Artists Town, and a variety of shops, galleries, museums and cafes - and, not least, Broughton House with its beautiful gardens. The village of Kirkcudbright has a castle, a museum, three churches, a working harbour, a marina, golf course, tennis courts, a bowling green and a swimming pool. Very comfortable, spacious and very homely. It's not the most up to date in terms of decor, but we prize comfort and a cosy feel over that. Location is very handy for the town centre, so gallery, pub, eateries & lovely places to wander all nearby, yet quiet & pleasant. Parking was not a problem all week. We had a query and the owner, despite being away on his own holiday, pulled out all the stops to help & all was well. Slightest of caveats in that the property info on the Sykes site mentions the gas fire in the dining area & wood burning stove in the kitchen, neither of which were functioning, hence the slightly lower mark for facilities, but the gas fire is to be back soon apparently and we weren't cold. The dining area is a really pleasant, sunny room in the morning. The garden needs a good pruning, but it was too wet to use during our stay anyway! Have to go back to finish the books we borrowed off the shelf...

Very well equipped, we were made to feel welcome the minute we stepped through the door. The garden was beautiful and we were so lucky with the weather. An excellent base for exploring the fantastic town and local area. We will definitely return. Thank you!
