What our customers say about their holidays

    • Stephen - Verified booking

Our stay at Bridges Cottage was quite nice.

The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard, and there is everything that you could possibly need for your stay. The cottage is very well equipped and in the perfect location, with many beautiful surrounding town and villages. If you want a peaceful break , then this is definitely the place to stay. It is very dog friendly, both in the cottage and the town. Although we loved the Cottage itself, there were 4 major negatives for us. Having problems with my right shoulder because of a previous fracture to my collarbone,I found it quite difficult to get in and out of the bed. This is because of how the bed is situated, right up against the wall and window, with no gap to walk down. Also the shower/ bath, which i should say is really nice and looks amazing. We both found it difficult to get in and out of. It is an unusual shape and quite a deep bath. The off road parking is in a very tight space and under quite a large tree. Our car was covered with sticky sap like drops all over the car, which took me 4 hours to clean off our car when we got home. The car park space is quite a distance from the cottage, so dropping the luggage to and fro was quite tiring. Although the cottage itself is an excellent place to stay, clean and comfortable. We felt that there are too many negative points for us to go there again. This is a shame because it was in the perfect location for us to visit the many beautiful places devon has to offer. We would like to thank the owner for the lovely cream tea which was left for us on our arrival.

Completely the WRONG choice of accommodation for us.

To begin with, on our arrival, we surprised to find the pub was quite so close. We had read in the details that 'there may be some associated noise', and there most definitely was. We had obviously expected some, but what we had not expected was the endless foul language and expletives, which were impossible to get away from. In fairness, the owner did apologise for this on a couple of occasions. We were also frustrated that 'off road parking for one car' was advertised, but finding somewhere was a bit of a lottery as there as no actual designated space. Another disappointment was the lack of seating. Outside there was only a very uncomfortable wooden 'double bench' supplied with cushions that did not fit - not that we could have spent much time outside with the continual obscenities emanating from next door. And inside there was only the bed to sit on. However, the shower room was well-appointed, but the living area was cramped making catering difficult. Actually, there was only a small worktop with an integral sink in immediate proximity to electrical items, and we were more than a little concerned that water and electricity were so close together. In hindsight, maybe we should have spoken to the owner about our disappointments at the time, but we felt it would have achieved little. As the main problems were the property's location and lack of size, which could not be changed. We will not be staying there again.

The location is amazing, overlooking the sea and train line and just a short walk from pubs, cafes and train station.

We stayed in the cottage next door a few years ago so were aware of the access to the property being down a ramp, steps and a narrow path but its worth it once you get your gear to the cottage. The sea front walkway is now fully open so over the bridge and few steps down will get you on there and it’s a short level walk to the centre, easier than going back up the slope. The things I will mention below did not affect our holiday but for the owner there are a couple of things to be looked and if no-one mentions them then the owner cannot sort it out. There are numerous bulbs out throughout the property, I'm happy to change a bulb in a lamp but these were spotlights, too high to reach without a stepladder. The handle has been snapped off the cupboard where the fridge is meaning you have to try and put your hand up underneath to grab the door of the freezer. Others have pulled at the door and caused the door to come away at the bottom. If I had a spanner and screwdriver I would have simply switched a handle from one of the other cupboards. The T.V in the living room does need updating or even just a DVD player put in front room. After a day of walking we like to watch a film but with basic T.V we ended up watching upstairs in the bedroom which meant we didn't make much use of the front room. We loved our stay and would definitely visit again, its just a shame its an 8-9 hour drive from newcastle!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

The location was ideal, plenty of shops nearby. Easy access to bus stops for heading into Torquay and other popular places nearby. Cottage was very well equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen as well as a handy washing machine in the utility room. Lovely snug room with sofa and tv.(slightly high on the wall for size of room) Lovely modern bathroom with plenty of room.Great quality towels provided. Bedroom was big enough and provided storage for all our clothes including hanging space. Lovely comfy bed. Nice fresh clean carpet in several areas. However we did both notice coming down the stairs that there were several carpet grippers poking through on the upright part of a few stairs which we did both catch our heals on unfortunately but it’s something that can easily be resolved.A cosy little outdoor area with bistro set overlooking bigger garden next door with friendly neighbours. Had to be very careful with one of the seats tho as the metal is quite rusty and has started to break up leaving a sharp edge. We managed using a cushion to sit on but just thought it best to mention. Lovely gesture providing us with milk, scones, jam and clotted cream on arrival, they were delicious and we’re now addicted to clotted cream even now we’re back home

Area of the accommodation was a perfect location for us as it allowed us to explore the beautiful countryside.

The accommodation was small and was just enough room for us as a couple, the bathroom was lovely and the accommodation was always nice and warm no matter what time of day/night it was. The positives for us were the quiet location, easy access to all amenities and the very easy check in and out system, which was emailed to us with clear instructions. The negatives for us were the parking as we found the car park was very busy every time we returned to the accommodation, it could be a possibility that the owners reserve a parking space for the tenants when the accommodation is booked out. We also struggled with the lack of storage space as we usually unpack our clothes when on holiday for a week and we had to live out of our cases, which wasn’t a huge issue as we mainly used the accommodation as a base for sleeping as we ate our meals out and everyday of our stay we were out exploring or out on day trips. We would recommend this accommodation for a short stay break or long weekend for this reason, as you wouldn’t have as much luggage as you would for a longer stay. There is a lovely pub with a beer garden right next to the accommodation which was very quiet with none to very little noise. Overall we enjoyed our stay and we felt very relaxed.
