What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sonya - Verified booking

We were met by the owner who was a lovely lady and explained everything thoroughly to us.

She made it clear she was available if need be but then we didn't see her til the end of our holiday, only because we had no need to. The cottage was very much as described but we were unaware that it actually joined to a property next door and we shared a courtyard. The adjoining property was empty during our stay which was fine but could have been a problem if it was being used by dogowners or people who did not like dogs as we had ours with us and it was the only space for dogs to be let out as there is no backgarden. Also on this point if you are a dog owner be aware that the courtyard has gate that a small dog/puppy could get out of. I have to disagree with some previous feedback regarding the bed and furniture as we found both very comfy, in fact I have come home ready to buy a new armchair like the one in the cottage! The only downside really was the heating which you have no control over. This is connected to the owners and comes on when hers does. As she has windows both sides I can imagine her house may be a little warmer. It was ok for us as it wasn't cold but I can imagine it may be an issue in the winter. Although she did say to let her know if it was an issue. All in all it was a lovely little cottage and we had a wonderful week there with lovely walks literally on the doorstep as well as a little brook fishing and our dogs loved it. It was very much as described although I think the shared courtyard really should be highlighted. One further point is that it is not made for tall people, luckily neither myself or my husband are but the sloped bathroom was a little of an issue for us and you could not have a shower (although there was a shower attachment) as you could not stand in the bath due to sloping ceiling. The location of the cottage is outstanding for a lovely peaceful holiday with loads to do within driving distance.

It was our first self catering experience as hotels are still closed and we were dreading it but we were pleasantly surprised.

The cottage has plenty of character and is recently renovated. It has been cleaned to the high standard. The decor is neutral and tasteful. The bedding is new and of 4*hotel quality. The heating works and temperature is comfortable. The only thing is that windows in the living room and master bedroom do not open for fresh air. It is important during the pandemic to allow air flow so we had to open front door and bathroom windows to allow some air there. The town is beautiful with waterfalls and stunning walks. There are pubs, restaurants where you can eat outside. All accessible by foot. Owner is super friendly and attentive so are the neighbours. We felt welcome everywhere. We would recommend this property.

Lovely cosy property, which was clean and finished to a high specification.

Chris and Lynne were very welcoming and helped make our stay a very enjoyable and relaxing one. We used the barn as a base to visit our daughter at university in Newcastle (20 min drive) and Northumbria. Housesteads, Sycamore Gap and Vindolanda are all worth a visit if you head up to Hadrian’s wall. Very enjoyable day at the seaside (Tynemouth), walking dog on the sandy beach and the castle was fascinating too. Disused railway line less than 500m from the cottage turning left and walking up shaw lane with great views over surrounding countryside. We would definitely consider returning to this lovely property. Ian, Jenny, Luke and Ted the dog

We've stayed at Miner's Cottage several times and always enjoy it.

Such a relaxing location but within easy and scenic drives of so many good places to visit. Will be looking to book again for 2023. Comfortable cottage with everything you need. Handy to have the ground floor shower room as well as the upstairs bathroom. Cottage is clean and cosy. Neighbours are friendly and the village is well served by a Co-op food store, newsagents, butchers, hardware and cafes/restaurants. Recommend meals out at The Teesdale Hotel and Foresters, as well as the chippy for a takeaway and the Tees Pot cafe. Good place to go walking. Lots to do in the county as well as over to N Yorkshire, Lake District and Northumberland.

The place was absolutely spotless and looked as it does in pictures.

It’s quite reasonably priced too. The overhead shower connection above the bath was over a sloping roof making it really difficult to shower. The sofa and armchair were quite uncomfortable. We were involved in lots of physical activity in the day and found these uncomfortable to come back to in an evening. The place was quite cold, luckily we had our own fan heater. If we had not, we would have been really unimpressed. The kitchen is basic, but fits short stays - no full oven, very limited utensils and pans. Overall, adequate for a very short (1-2 night) visit, but not longer.
