What our customers say about their holidays

This is a fantastic place to stay, the facilities at The Granary are superb.

From walking into the property we were in awe at the way it had been converted. Some of the buildings old features had been kept, which added to the character and the space it had meant we weren’t on top of each other all the time. All three bedrooms are also spacious and have en-suite bathrooms, two with enclosures and one with a shower over bath. The kitchen / dining room is open plan and is well equipped and the livingroom again is roomy and has games for family nights. The owners had left welcome gifts (chocolates, Prosecco and even milk) so you are able to start your stay in style or at least a cuppa!! The garden is completely enclosed, therefore suitable for children and animals and the addition of a hot tub (which we used daily!!) made for a really relaxing stay. The area itself is beautiful, nice, quiet and peaceful and surprisingly close to other towns and villages in the area. Just outside the door there are excellent views and there are Alpacas and horses which are friendly and enjoy a feed. There are other conversions on the site of the original farm and each one is secluded. All in all, congratulations to John, Tracey and Chris on having such a wonderful site and the ability to put such thought and effort into their properties. We’d love to come back at some point for another break and enjoy the hospitality again. Many, many thanks to you.

The location of the holiday home was great.

The Granary had an initial wow factor. Light and airy with comfortable sofas. On closer inspection we found a lot of dust and hairs under the sofa’s and around the fridge which was disappointing for the high standard we were expecting. The kitchen utensils were very poorly stocked as were the saucepans and crockery. Lots of chipped bowls and plates and no pasta dishes!! We were disappointed not to find a pint of milk to make a cup of tea after a 5 hr drive from Norfolk. In all the years we’ve stayed in holiday homes there has always been a pint of milk provided. It’s the little touches that make a difference. What really shocked me about staying at The Granary was the complete lack of recycling facilities apart from glass bottles. All plastics and food disposed of together something I didn’t feel comfortable doing at all. Is there not a way that the owners can accommodate recycling on a more general scale? It’s pretty appalling in this day and age.

      What an amazing property!

We felt at home immediately we arrived - such a lovely place to relax for a week. The Granary is furnished to a really high spec with lots of thoughtful touches, even a bottle of Prosecco waiting when we arrived. It was perfect for our family of 5 with 3 grown up teenagers, and our dog. We loved the hot tub and tried a few of the board games in the property we hadn’t played before. We had no trouble getting the hot tub roasty toasty- just plan and light it in advance. The Shepherds Rest in the village is a short walk, dog friendly and did a lovely Sunday lunch. We enjoyed walks from The Granary of various lengths. The property is so handy for Durham and not far from Newcastle for a visit too. We particularly enjoyed the escape room at Lumley Castle, Lily of Lumley - great fun for everyone in a lovely setting. We’d wholeheartedly recommend this stunning property.

House was in a great location with a lovely local pub (dog friendly and serves food).

The house had all the amenities you could think of or needed which was good for cooking in the house. It was very clean and furnished well. We had a very comfortable week and the dog enjoyed himself. The only downside to the property was that the hot tub was a wood fired tub. It sounds lovely but it was a commitment heating it up as it took around three hours from cold and needed wood in its fire every fifteen to thirty minutes. Fortunately we have a fire at home so knew how to get one going and keep it going. I think some would struggle without this experience. We only used the tub twice because of this, and electric one would have been much better. We would return if we were to explore this part of the north again.

Lovely relaxed stay, just what the family needed.

3 double bedrooms are hard to find and the fact they all had en suites sealed the deal for us! The enclosed garden was perfect for our dog and meant we could let her our to the toilet without having to stand on guard. Tracey came over to welcome us which was lovely! The kitchen was well equipped with everything anyone could need. They even provided dog bowls! The hot tub was perfect and I really liked that we could replenish wood for the fire without additional charge. Lastly, the alpacas and horses kept my toddler well entertained. The animals are clearly looked after and alpacas are so friendly that you could feed them!
