What our customers say about their holidays

    • Rowena - Verified booking

Heating: It was really helpful that there was a wood burner but it would have been more helpful to have had some tools & a generous offer would have been to include some kiln-dried logs for the welcome!

. The heating control was very 'random' - possibly on a timer but challenging to adjust the switch to have the much-needed heating on outside of the regular times when we were 'at home' because of the inclement weather. En-suite: was disappointingly small - clearly built in to where there was perhaps originally a wardrobe - so it was 'cos'y to say the least!. Kitchen: really well stocked, about 12 items of each plate, dish, mug etc; the work top/breakfast bar has been well worn. The oven seemed not to heat up properly when on regular settings - only when it was on fan - we left a note confirming this. Bath sheets instead of small bath towels would have been appreciated. I doubt we would stay in Salcombe again - like so many resorts unfortunately it is just full of holiday homes and not much else - not many people actually live there it seems so it lacks a village/town feel/community... we visited many places nearby Dartmouth & Kingsbridge therefore - stunning scenery & plenty of National Trust gardens to visit. Sadly the property is, according to www, likely to be demolished some time soon to make way for 2 apartments - shame as it has obviously not long been refurbished, new kitchen, new furnishings, v comfy bed etc. However despite the inclement weather (Storm Alex) at the start of our break, we had a lovely holiday and would propose to use Sykes again.

We had a lovely stay at the Hay barn and we thought it was a beautiful property.

Just a couple of things I’d like to mention. On arrival we took our dogs for a walk around to familiarise ourselves and the neighbours cocker spaniel decided to run out and attack my dog. My dog was on a lead and this was totally unprovoked so I think the owners either need to put a gate up or tie their dog up if it’s going to greet guests and their dogs in this manner. Secondly the bin stall which is right outside the Hay Barn and opposite the pool was a bit of an eye sore and could do with being organised a bit better as quite off putting on arrival. Thirdly the property advertises a king and queen room. The twin beds put together to make the queen do not fit together properly and I kept falling through the middle and couldn’t cuddle up to my partner. Just a suggestion but I think the electric car charger also needs to be PIN code protected or it needs a sign with instructions as to who can use to to avoid any confusion. Other than these few minor issues we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and this area of Devon is really picturesque. The garden wasn’t overlooked and there was lots of birds and nature around us. The house was well stocked with cooking utensils for those who wish to cook.

We loved the cottage, a lot of thought and love has clearly gone into making it so comfortable and welcoming.

We booked very last minute as the weather looked good and the booking was really easy. Beds and sofas very comfy and WiFi was great (I had to work in the mornings so that was a relief)! No BBQ despite the listing and garden was very pretty but quite overgrown so top sections not very accessible - didn’t bother us as we were out most of the time. No toilet brush! We hadn’t realised there was no washing machine - normally not a problem as who wants to do washing on hols but as the weather was so hot it would have been good to be able to wash sand suncream and salt out of clothes - my husband didn’t bring enough. But we are too happy enjoying being to swim every day and enjoy the weather to care! And we could see it would be very difficult to install one due to space in the kitchen which was otherwise perfect and worked well… The little coffee shop along the road was great, amazing bread and a nice thing to have in the village. Will definitely be back - a quiet alternative to overpriced Salcombe accommodation! Thank you for letting us stay.

We enjoyed our stay at Rock Point.

We had stayed at the property previously so knew what to expect. It’s excellent to have the benefit of parking in Salcombe. We had an issue with TVs not working and quickly realised this was because remotes controls were missing batteries and an aerial cable was missing from bedroom 2. This was quickly rectified by the maintenance team. The wine cooler fridge is not working and the maintenance man tried changing the fuse to no avail. The PlayStation listed in Bedroom 3 isn’t there anymore and on asking we were informed it was broken and hadn’t been replaced. Beds were comfy and the property clean and spacious. Fridge space was a bit limited especially with no door basket for milk etc (assumed broken and removed) and this could be improved by adding a 2nd fridge in the utility room. The property was well equipped and we had everything we needed. We enjoyed our stay and would return in the future.

Was a good holiday generally, owner was friendly and pool was big and kids loved it.

The only point to make in the interests of a balanced review would be that there were quite a few small things that whilst not really having any impact on the holiday were a bit niggly given what we’d paid: Garden was not self contained as advertised so we couldn’t just let our dog out without supervision. This was a pain tbh. No toilet extractor fans worked. One toilet was very hard to flush. Downstairs toilet door very hard to open as it had swelled and scraped on the floor. Wifi was rubbish tbh, no bandwidth. Pool floor had a couple of tiles missing and my daughter cut her foot (not badly) on one of the edges. Shrubs around house all overgrown and so when it rained it was hard not to get wet whilst trying to walk past them. Other than that all good, but the place would definitely benefit from some TLC.
