What our customers say about their holidays

    • Duncan - Verified booking

Just returned from a great break at Engine Room Cottage, Sledmere.

The Cottage is located on the outskirts of the village on the Bridlington Rd. Although a main road the traffic, was minimal and road noise zero. The Cottage is brilliantly furnished and offers 3 separate bathrooms, that was brilliant to our group of 3 couples. Two bedrooms are on the upper floor incorporating en-suite, whilst the third with 2 single beds is on the lower floor with an adjacent bathroom. The lounge/kitchen is of open plan design, with patio doors offering access to limited outdoor seating. The owner was a very obliging individual and couldn’t do enough for us, even though located some 50 miles away. The Cottage is superbly kitted out with every utensil you could imagine, games, dvd and books available. We were somewhat limited in having access to Sledmere House as it was closed for the season, but our limited siting gave a desire to return and view at a later date.. We ate in the Triton Inn and I would highly recommend this, with a great selection of food and drinks. We walked through to the other nearest pub/restaurant at Helperthorpe on Saturday afternoon, but were disappointed to discover that both locations didn’t open until 6.00pm and an 11 mile walk does give you appetite and thirst. Visited Malton on Friday, the micro pub Brass Castle, well worth a visit. If using Taxis, do some homework as the rates quoted from Sledmere to Malton, varied between £75, £45 & £33. Malton is a lovely visit and I would recommend. Beware of limited parking at the Cottage and we did have s number of issues, but to be fair, it is recommended for 2 cars, but unfortunately we had 3. Overall great location, great faculties, very clean and with a very obliging owner on the end of the phone.

We had a lovely stay at Engine Room Cottage in this historic, quaint village.

Sledmere house, estate and grounds and the local traditional country pub the Triton inn are just 10 minutes walk away and worth a visit. The cottage is well placed for coast, city and county. The converted cottage was one of four on the old fire station site. They are quite close together but not overlooking each other. No garden but a patio area with a bench and fabulous outlook over the fields at the back with lambs running around. Very tidy, clean and nicely decorated with a tasteful fire station theme. There was wine awaiting us on arrival, which was a really nice touch and the owner Catherine contacted us the day before to wish us a good stay. The kitchen was particularly well equipped and the open plan downstairs is a great sociable space with a lovely big table for meals and the big squashy sofa was extremely comfy. Lovely big bedrooms with stylish ensuites upstairs and comfortable beds. Lots of wardrobe space and hangers but we would have liked a chest of drawers in the upstairs bedrooms as there's lots of room and a full length mirror would be really good. Overall a little pricey but very well equipped, stylish and comfortable cottage in a very picturesque individual village, I would definitely recommend and visit again.

What a stunning location in Bridlington.

The area where we stayed was in fact to us one of the best on the east coast . So clean quiet and peaceful. The beach was truly amazing for our dog walking and morning runs. The apartment we stayed in also is one of the best with stunning views from the balcony and a huge bedroom with stunning views again and beautiful seating area in bedroom. Mary the owner has made her holiday apartment absolutely amazing with lovely furniture and fittings. Everything was there that you needed. Also which was nice Mary lives just below and she is very caring and sorted out quickly and efficiently a small issue. Mary was the ideal host . We are both vegan and Mary left a bottle of vegan wine and a lovely house plant to take home. There are so many nice places to visit and I have written about them in the visitors book with postcodes of how to get there. We love walking with our dog and one of the days managed 10 miles by the end of the day . So if you looking for a stunning place in stunning location book this place. Oh and a free parking space literally right at the base of property.

Pebble Cottage is a beautiful property in a wonderful location.

After a few days there we had totally relaxed. The dark skies at night are amazing (unfortunately the nights were cloudy so no stargazing but I find laying in bed listening to rain very nice, and every single day was sunny and warm for March!). We only took the car out on 2 days as it is so easy to walk around the area with Danes Dyke being basically across the road and from there going either down to Sewerby and Bridlington or round the Flamborough headland and beaches. It’s also an easy short walk into the village itself where everyone we met was very friendly. Coming back after our walks to the dog wash was very appreciated! Readers who have had shedding labradors in their lives will also appreciate that supplies at the cottage included a good vacuum cleaner, having always had long haired dogs before our current one I’d really not believed friends that a lab coat is worse for embedding itself, well, everywhere…. We were very sad to leave, it was a joy to have been.

This was a last-minute booking which we decided to make as the weather forecast was looking so good, so I’m a way we were limited in choice.

Engine Room cottage certainly did not disappoint….very thoughtfully prepared by its owner, Catherine, who could not be more helpful. Some superb finishing touches such as Bluetooth speaker, lots of magazines and games to amuse if the weather is poor, and the pass giving access to nearby Sledmere House and Gardens is way above and beyond what we had expected. It’s nice that Catherine clearly cares a lot about the guest experience….she contacted us during our journey to advise of a, really very minor issue that had been discovered during the changeover, which did not affect us at all, but Catherine clearly was concerned that everything was fine. As for location etc, it’s in a really nice place for early morning and evening dog walks around the Sledmere deer park (back to T junction left then right) and other visitor attractions within easy reach, The beach at Hunmanby Gap that is recommended in the guest folder is amazing!
