What our customers say about their holidays

    • Glen - Verified booking

We just got back from a fantastic stay at The Stables holiday cottage in North Yorkshire and couldn't wait to share our experience!

There were four of us, plus our dog, and the cottage was perfect for all of us. From the moment we arrived, we were charmed by the cozy atmosphere. The open-plan living area on the ground floor was such a welcoming space, with a lovely view of the garden. We spent our evenings by the large wood-burning stove, which made everything feel incredibly snug. Upstairs, the mezzanine lounge was a hit. It was a great spot to hang out with another TV, some games, and a comfy sofa bed. The view from up there over the living area below was pretty cool, too. Sleeping arrangements were super comfortable. The main bedroom had a big double bed, and the twin bedroom had large windows that let in lots of light, making everything feel bright and airy. The garden was another highlight. With two patios and a BBQ, we managed a lovely evening and afternoon with a few vino's and nibbles outside. Our dog loved running around the lawn, and it was a great place to unwind. The village of Roos was charming, with a couple of nice pubs to explore. And just a short drive away, Withernsea offered a great selection of shops and a delightful coastline. All in all, The Stables was a delightful place to stay. It had everything we needed for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. We’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy getaway with family, friends, and pets!

Where do I begin Sack the cleaner ….

. Cobwebs everywhere. Kitchen area and pots and pans filthy ( flies or spiders could have been all over the pots as they aren’t in a cupboard, no cups only mugs, sink waste trap was vile, cooker was disgusting, the grease made our eyes sting when it was hot. Everything was sticky and greasy. The washing up bowl was disgusting, the sink area was filthy and the rubber tap hoses were black inside, plumbing was noisy when hot water was running. The tv was tiny, dvd’s but no player downstairs, log burner was filthy (couldn’t even see the fl ames due to the doors being sooty) Curtains were filthy Microwave was rusty, washing machine was dirty and utility room smelled of must. Bathroom was filthy (check the shower screen where it opens it is disgusting) Floor Tiles missing under stairs Bedroom furniture dirty and hairs in drawers. (didn’t even unpack our case) When we opened the velux window loads of bits dropped on the bed. ‘Blinds’ pinned up with cork board pins. Woken up every morning to dogs barking. Garden not secure (the gate needs wire mesh to the top) the garden was unsuitable for dogs if you like them to be clean. Our dog had to have her feet washed all the time she was here due to the mud everywhere. A totally unpleasant stay from the minute we arrived. Left early as we had had enough!!!

A very comfortable stay for the 2 of us and our dog.

Our experience was only slightly spoiled but a couple of minor issues which should be able to be resolved quite easily: Only 2 knives, forks, spoons, t-spoons in the property. What’s the problem? There’s just the 2 of us, right? Of course that’s correct but a set of 6 would have enabled us to make sandwiches, slice fruit, have dinner and have enough to do the same on the following day. The cutlery we were left was not of an expensive quality so no risk of theft, although we did feel that we weren’t to be trusted. Nitpicking again I’m afraid but as we used the log burner every night, we also used the fireside tool set to clean up after each night. The hand brush was our issue and had clearly seen better days as far a bristles were concerned; given enough time and inclination (both in short supply) we could have counted the individual bristles on our fingers. Ok, that was an exaggeration but hope you get the point. On the positive side, a free supply of logs was made available for the duration of our stay - we've never found this before at any other rental properties. That’s about it. Please don’t let the points above put you off. They are trivial but annoyed us somewhat so felt the need to make the owners aware.

We had the most wonderful stay at the stables.

Everything we could possibly needs plus more, the bed was so comfy , the power shower great, and the abundance of towels (even towels for the beach etc) was more than expected. The attention to detail was superb, fresh ground coffee, a cafetière, fridge and freezer both full size! The bonus of a little mezzanine level which became the kids sofa area was great. The dappled shady garden was wonderful as it was very warm when we were there. Our kids loved to feed the birds every morning. We mainly used the cottage as a base as we were visiting family whilst we stayed, but it was so perfect we spent a few days just relaxing at the cottage and reading our books. The hosts were perfect, and lefts notes on everything we needed. Was so peaceful. We took our dog for a long walk most days through the fields at the back towards Tunstall beach which was a perfect way to start the morning. We will certainly be coming back!

      The Cottage exceeded our expectations.

It was wonderfully clean throughout and felt both cosy and spacious at the same time... just right for the 2 of us and Eddie the dog. It has everything you need for a restful stay, including the warming log burner for cooler evenings and lovely the hot tub for relaxing in after a long walk on one of the nearby beaches. The garden is lovely for enjoying a glass of afternoon fizz and is fully enclosed making it very dog friendly. The owners aren’t intrusive but are on hand next door if you need anything. They have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and welcoming. The bed is large and very comfy, but as a personal preference I would have liked some black out blinds in the bedroom. There is noise from the machinery at the working farm next door but we got used to that and it didn’t spoil our stay or keep us awake at night. Would love to return here again in the future.
