Plan your holiday your way with Sheffield Holiday Cottages

Sheffield is a cool and cosmopolitan city in the heart of Yorkshire. There's lots to see and do in Sheffield city centre including the Millennium Galleries, Kelham Island Museum and the Botanical Gardens.

The city of Sheffield is also home to a bustling high street and vibrant nightlife with plenty of brilliant restaurants, bars and pubs, and fantastic live music venues, perfect for a memorable night out.

Fancy a break from the city? Surrounding Sheffield you'll find picturesque sprawling countryside and the beautiful Peak District National Park, ideal for outdoor adventures.

To complete your trip, stay in one of our hand-selected Sheffield holiday cottages. We have dozens of gorgeous self-catering properties packed with character, charm, and all the home comforts you could wish for.

Why choose a Sheffield weekend break?

Located in South Yorkshire is Sheffield, a unique city on the edge of the incredible Peak District, so city excitement and stunning natural beauty go hand in hand.

Sheffield is built on hills and rivers, the main one being the River Don, and completely regenerated itself after the Industrial Revolution. Old factory buildings and warehouses retain their historic stature but are now the homes of thriving independent businesses, restaurants, and other cool eateries. In short, Sheffield is a city with a vibrant history mixed with a modern and creative edge.

While the city is well-known for its steel production, there is so much more to Sheffield. It's a multicultural city with an eclectic arts scene, from museums and galleries to theatre and live music. One of our favourite areas is Kelham Island, which was once a powerhouse of industry and is now an eclectic and trendy neighbourhood.

Sheffield's museums are all free to visit, and many of them tell the stories of the city's past. The Kelham Island Museum is a fascinating insight into Sheffield going back over 300 years, while Weston Park Museum located just outside the city centre, provides history going back to prehistoric times.

For a spot of tranquillity in the heart of the city, head to the Winter Garden, a beautiful oasis and one of Europe's largest urban greenhouses. The eco-friendly building is a lovely way to enjoy a spot of respite, where you can relax among over 2,000 plants from across the globe. Or why not visit the beautiful Sheffield Cathedral and marvel at the oldest building in the city?

Impressive street art is everywhere in Sheffield. You can take a street art tour around the city or pop into The Millennium Gallery or Graves Gallery for more street art fun.

Music fans will be in heaven when visiting Sheffield. The city is renowned for its music scene, with famous artists including Arctic Monkeys, Bring Me The Horizon, Pulp, Def Leppard, and The Human League hailing from Sheffield. You can even spot a huge portrait of Jarvis Cocker on the side of a building in Kelham Island.

To experience some top-notch live music, head to iconic venues such as The Leadmill, the longest running live music venue in the city.

Sheffield is also a dream come true for foodies. It has a thriving independent food scene, with countless cafes, eateries, restaurants, street food stalls, and bars everywhere you look. To discover more amazing food spots, join a Kelham Island Food Tour, or go to Cutlery Works, a food hall in Kelham Island with a buzzing atmosphere and lots of independent food vendors.

There's also lots of excellent shopping to be had in Sheffield. For something a little different, venture slightly south of the city centre and have a wander around the Antiques Quarter. It's a quirky area filled with ancient buildings and hidden antique gems. Meadowhall is a huge shopping mall packed with over 250 stores from high street to designer. There's also a massive food court and a cinema.

With so much to see and do in Sheffield, you'll only wish your trip could go on for longer.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Glyn - Verified booking

We received a very warm welcome from the host even thou we didn’t arrive till after 9.

00pm. On first entering the property it’s clear to see the charm and unique setting it has, tastefully decorated with all the facility’s you would need for a relaxed and enjoyable stay. The two rooms are well set and comfortable beds. The Bathroom is well equipped with its rolled top bay and separate walk in shower having either a fixed Rain Shower head of a traditional flexible rose on hose set up. Pleanty of high quality super soft towels available. The lounge was comfortable with the log fire a plentiful supply of logs should you need them. Perfect to relax after a long day. We sat out in the garden and all the birds start to sing to you, along with the sound of baby chicks in one of the nest boxes in the trees. Just a short walk into town with all the facility’s you need, fairly large Supermarket and two smaller ones, lots of individual shops too. All round perfect for a relaxing holiday or a good base to go out and about, Fully recommend this property and will try to return in the future. Many Thanks for the opportunity to stay.

We wanted a weekend to unwind and relax without the children and St Johns Cottage was perfect for this.

The local area is beautiful! Caroline showed us around when we arrived and recommended some walks and areas to visit, as well as any info we needed for our stay. The cottage was immaculate and the smell that greets you, when you walk through the door, is beautiful and adds to the warm and inviting feel of the cottage. All the little extras were very welcome, like the wine, cake and toiletries-a first in many homes we have rented through Sykes! It was a perfect break away, set in a stunning location, in a 5 star property. Caroline and Duncan should be very proud of not only the beautiful home they provide, but also the high standard of cleaning, the extra mile they go as hosts and the little finishing touches they add to make you feel welcome. Thank you for allowing us to stay, we will be back! Sarah x

From the time we arrived we knew we were going to have a great staycation.

The cottage is in a great location with easy access to all routes. Caroline the owner who lives next door was there to greet us and inform us about the facilities in the cottage which is very well maintained, very clean and very comfortable. The patio seating area in the garden is lovely with a newly planted raised border, with an upper section to sit as well. The cottage provides everything you need with a lovely touch of wine, milk, cake, coffee and tea on arrival, if you have not had chance to buy any. Great place to eat about 10 mins up Mortimer Road called Cubley Hall, nice beer garden and service. Tesco's superstore 10 mins in the opposite direction. My wife and I had a fantastic stay and would thoroughly recommend this beautiful cottage.

This was our second visit to St John’s.

We stayed last summer and enjoyed it so much we decided it was perfect for a winter break too. We were not disappointed. The weather meant we spent a lot of time indoors, (as we expected). The cottage is furnished to a high standard and spotlessly clean. We were very cosy with the log burner in the living room. Our 9 year old son, generally adverse to going out at the best of times, was very happy in his home from home. Out and about there are lots of walks nearby and a little further afield. We enjoy running and the Trans Pennine Trail is just on the on the doorstep. The owners make a real effort to welcome their guests and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you Caroline. I am sure we will return for a third visit at some point.

      Lovely property, beautifully kept.

Clearly a huge amount of effort has gone into decorating this surprisingly spacious cottage. It is beautifully clean, well equipped and the little luxury touches of fluffy towels, lovely hand soap, tea, coffee, cake, wine and milk on arrival make you feel so welcome. It’s a really peaceful property with lots of space including access to a gorgeous outside area. The owner lives just next door and was so kind and welcoming, showing us around and how everything worked, meaning we could enjoy our stay from the minute we arrived. The walks from the door were lovely and plentiful, a short weekend is no where near enough. Our only very minor niggle was the amount of air fresheners which made us both sneeze continuously.
