What our customers say about their holidays

Second holiday with Sykes cottages although they're not really cottages.

So, the above property we stayed at had issues from the time we walked thro the door, it was a very cold night and we could not understand the heating as no one was on site to meet us. The shower in one of the bathrooms did not work and if you want to watch live tv you can't you can only watch box sets on the owners netflix account but if you search you tube you can get sky news live. The bed in the main room which I had gave me a bad back albiet I earlier seen a review on SC from another previous guest about the same issue, so would have expected been rectified. The other room had no privacy at all, there is a dark net but no curtains so my holiday guest been a female was rather concerned considering there was a window opposite in the other property opposite. The annexe is a nice property but I think the above issues need rectifying, the area is so beautiful and has breath taking views on the ring of Kerry including Ladies View, the amenities of the local garage which consists of a supermarket is mainly all there is to offer close by, the nearest beach 10 mins away has a chip shop there is also a pub there but only open weekends. If you want a main town its about 1hr 10 mins away but it is one of the best drives you will ever do for scenery :) Although I have listed some issues above I must add that the sister of the owner ( who was out the country on business ) spent a lot of time with us and got the shower fixed, got the wifi updated and showed us how the heating worked, she was so kind and we appreciated all the help she gave us, thank you Patricia :)

The property itself was very spacious, but very dusty & lots of cobwebs all around.

The table mats need to be replaced they are very worn & tatty. There was an issue with ants in the utility area. The outside lights were not working & it was so very dark at nights outside & as a result of this my elderly mother had a fall & banged her arm, it could have been worse. Christine the caretaker was very helpful when I rang her about this, she got onto the owner straight away, he then sent an electrician out the next morning. He condemned the lights but managed to get a light working in the one outside the front door. He rang the owner who agreed to fix only one out the back. The lights are not much use until you get inside & turn them on. The street lights outside were all not working at all, all filled with moss inside them etc etc, so the whole place outside was pitch black, again a very dangerous place in the dark. This needs to be addressed for everyone not just number 13. It would be nice when travelling to the house & arriving late at night to have had at least a small welcome box with milk & bread in it, like in previous years. We have stayed in many of these holiday homes over the years & I can see so many cuts backs apart from the cost of them. Even the electric is so very pricey. The inside decor needs attention, where paint has come off the cream walls, they have been patched up with white paint in blobs. For the cost of the rental I would of expected perfection

Annie's Cottage is a gem of a thatched cottage to stay in!

We recently spent two weeks in this beautiful cottage. It is ideally situated in the centre of Country Mayo, making trips to Achill Island, Mayo's north and west coasts and trips to Galway City in the next county easy to reach. It is spacious, very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean and even though we stayed in August, we had the odd chilly day but we were warm and comfortable with the underfloor heating, radiators and log burning fire. There were plenty of fresh linen and towels available and after our first week we were brought more in case they were needed. Annie's Cottage has two kitchens and both are stocked with ample pots, pans, cutlery and crockery, with plenty of storage for any shopping should you do a lot of eating in, as we do and there are two fridges, one with a large freezer. The cottage has a large, beautiful garden with table, chairs and a bbq and it was lovely sitting out in the evening catching the last of the sun with a glass of wine. The owners, Jim and Mai, are a lovely couple and live close by. They were the perfect hosts and had a welcome gift for us when we arrived and provided us with fresh eggs from their farm during our stay. We can honestly say that Annie's Cottage is the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in and will definitely book the cottage again when we next holiday in the beautiful and scenic Country Mayo. I had a very nice week in moybella lodge its in a quiet location with beautiful scenery, the house itself was perfect, comfortable and spotless clean with all the facilities and amenities needed and just a mile from lisselton where there is a pub, restaraunt and petrol station/shop for daily essentials and for anything else the towns of listowel and ballybunion are nearby, i dont drive so i cycle and found listowel to be a 20 minute cycle away and ballybunion 10/15 minutes away so very handy for someone like me, wnen i arrived i was met by angela who was really nice and had some fruit and a couple of bottles of water for me and showed me around the house, i later that day met maurice who was very friendly and chatty and told me i could knock at their door if i needed any help which fortunately i didnt, some people might be afraid or put off by the family dog but shouldnt be he is a very well trained and well behaved german shepherd and isn't at all a nuisance and certainly not a danger and is mostly indoors anyway, overall i got very good value for my money and couldnt be happier with my week in moybella lodge and would recommend to anyone

I booked this property for my parents (in their 70's), they had the most super trip to this cottage and absolutely loved their stay.

Everything was just what they needed - the walk in shower, ground level accommodation and easy access was just perfect. This property is absolutely ideal for a larger group/family as well. The hosts are so very welcoming and we really appreciated all the help and for being so attentive. It was home from home type accommodation. I really could not recommend this property highly enough. The welcome and attention to detail is superb. This is also a super area for exploring Mayo, there are many day trips in easy distance, there are numerous drives around the coastline and Wild Atlantic Way and you will not be disappointed with the scenery and splendid views around Mayo. There are some super spots for dining and entertainment in the nearby towns, whilst also being able to come back to a lovely homely nest in the evening with complete peace and tranquility. This is one of the best houses to book in the area and I challenge anyone to find anything but perfection here at Annie's Cottage. Please book without hesitation. You will not be disappointed!

    Frequent questions

    • What is the best month to visit Ireland?

The best month to visit Ireland depends on personal preferences and interests. The summer months of June, July, and August generally offer pleasant weather, longer daylight hours, and a vibrant atmosphere. However, spring (April and May) and autumn (September and October) can also be excellent times to visit, with fewer crowds, beautiful landscapes, and opportunities to experience local festivals and cultural events.

    • How many days in Ireland is enough?

The number of days needed to explore Ireland depends on the depth of experience desired. A minimum of 5-7 days is often recommended to cover the highlights of popular destinations like Dublin, the Ring of Kerry, the Cliffs of Moher, and Galway. However, to fully immerse in Ireland's diverse landscapes, historic sites, and vibrant culture, extending the trip to 10-14 days or more allows for a more comprehensive exploration of the country.

    • Where should I go in Ireland for the first time?

For a first-time visit to Ireland, starting in Dublin, the vibrant capital city, is a great choice. Explore its historic sites, such as Trinity College and Dublin Castle, and immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere. From there, consider visiting popular destinations like the scenic Ring of Kerry, the majestic Cliffs of Moher, and the charming city of Galway, which showcase Ireland's stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

    • What is the most walkable town in Ireland?

Galway is often regarded as one of the most walkable towns in Ireland. The compact city center allows for easy exploration on foot, with its pedestrian-friendly streets, lively atmosphere, and numerous attractions within close proximity. Strolling through the colorful streets of Galway allows visitors to discover charming shops, pubs, restaurants, and historical landmarks such as the Spanish Arch and Eyre Square.
