"Let me preface this review by stating, very simply, that Strathcarron is the most beautiful place I've ever been to in the UK. My fiancée and I stayed in this cottage for six nights in June 2015. The owners (who live two minutes' walk away) were quite wonderful; very polite and accommodating of our ever-fluctuating arrival date! The cottage is set far enough away from the owners' smallholding that we were never disturbed during our stay there; the garden is well-maintained and the drive spacious enough for a couple of cars (although we only brought one). The house itself is very generous, space-wise, considering the price. Both bedrooms are on the second floor (i.e. in the roof), but well-insulated and furnished in a modern style. The living room is carpeted and cosy and the kitchen perfectly functional; both are rather style in a less modern manner than the bedrooms, but they're well-kept, nonetheless. The choice of space heaters, E7 heaters and two open fireplaces meant that we could enjoy the luxury of a warm house thoughout a week of rather inclement weather, whilst still allowing us to enjoy a few nights in front of an open fire, too, which was nice. The house is perfectly situated to explore The Isle of Skye, the Applecross Peninsula and Glen Torridon; all are within 45 minutes' drive, which is practically a stone's throw away in this part of the UK! Gairloch is further afield, but still a feasible destination for a day trip, as long as you leave early. Local amenities are good.Drawbacks? Well, the lack of TV, telephone and mobile reception were an inconvenience, but soon forgotten after the first couple of nights. If we stayed here again, we'd probably bring our laptop and some DVDs, so that we had something else to occupy us in the evenings besides board games (of which there are enough to keep even the most avid gamer busy for a long, long time!) The midgies and ticks were also a nuisance, but that goes with the territory up here, so can't complain too much about that. I should also add that it was made clear to us that the house had no TV before our stay, so it wasn't as if there were any nasty surprises on arrival! All in all, we had a superb time in this cottage, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone thinking of staying here."

"We were a party of five which fitted the bedrooms ideally, with two doubel and one single. Each bedroom had its own en-suite so no queueing for the bathroom in a morning. The house was extremely well equipped throughout. There was an open fire in the siitting room, though we had no need to use as the weather was very kind to us, there was also enough comfortable seating for us all. The kitchen had everything you could expect to need and more, including a tagine, and a cheese fondue, again we never used these items. Kyleakin is a small place and the house is ideally located for touring Skye or driivng to walks. There are a couple of pubs/restaurants within 5 minutes walk of the house, Saucy marys and King Kaakum, also a very good indian restaurant a short drive away. The owners live in the other half of the semi, and were helpful whenever we had a question. We will certainly try and visit again."

"Lovely clean property which is well equipped. The drive can be a bit difficult to spot at night, especially if the garage has shut, the lights are off and your coming from the Kyle of Lochalsh. The road can be a bit noisy especially if your sleeping in the back room with the windows open. The view from the lounge is stunning of Loch Duich - its to die for! It might help to have clear instructions on how to access the shore (which neighbours property its accessed through). We found the double bed a bit hard but that's just personal preference. Great shower.Nearest places to eat are about 10 minutes by car and there is ample choice, seemed a bit pricey. However, places like the Jac-o-Bite and the Indian restaurant in Kyleakin are superb.Eilean Donan is 5 minutes drive - much more commercial now than when we last visited. We would stay again, nice base with plenty of places to visit."

"Fabulous location and fabulous views from all windows. Great to while away the time just sitting watching the effects of the changes in weather. We loved the remoteness of this cottage, which was very comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean, for me, my partner, 80year old mom and dog Jack. Enclosed garden to allow Jack to wander freely without us worrying. Lovely walks from the cottage ( not for mom ) and nearby. Nearest shop / cafe approximately 6 miles away stocked with basics, very friendly and welcoming. Due to time of year, not a lot open around, but this didn't worry us as was expected. Deer in the wildlife centre in Torridon was a treat, along with lots of wild sightings. Sea eagle and seals seen on travels around.A welcome basket of goodies on arrival was a lovely surprise and very unexpected. We look forward to returning."

"Overall a lovely cottage to stay (the owner only had a couple of days to get it ready). Very well equipped cottage also nice & warm!Lovely views over the loch, saw some form of dolphins three times during the week, also a brief view of an otter & seals too (all through binoculars).Could do with instructions for induction hob (we couldn't find any) never used one before but eventually figured it out! There was a 'beep' approximately every 30 seconds, seemed to come from the loft area?? Wasn't loud but was noticeable when the cottage was quiet. The cottage is only 5 mins drive from Eillean Donnan castle, approximately 20 minutes from Skye. Generally well situated for exploring the area.We would definitely base ourselves there again if we go back to the area.Overall very happy with the cottage."
